Re: NEWCASTLE

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The reason why I left Preveza out of the Tour Operator Guide was that Excel Airways are not covering the flight. I have now spoken with Kosmar and their intention is to get an overseas operator to operate the flight with a routing PVK-NCL-BRS-PVK - I'll reflect this in the next edition. Thanks for your interest. Chris Sanders

Great news that the route is still going ahead!!!

Re: NEWCASTLE

Thomsonfly will not operate to TCP Taba during Winter06/07. The flight has been cancelled by Thomson Holidays, has been for a while.

Also, XLA will not be using one of their own 757 a/c for this summer. They have agreed a similar operation to what SCY used to have with Finnair, so instead of SCY leasing AY 757 XLA will. This is in addition to their own 738 a/c.

Re: NEWCASTLE

I had heard that the -400 was returning too! Why can't xla put the -400 at an airport down south and give NCL a -800, which can fly to the likes of ZTH and back with pax and all the baggage!!

Also I thought the PVK flight was going to operate by XLA on sundays, after the early ZTH flight, using the 737 aircraft!

Wishful thinking in my opinion, best we can hope for is announcements for routes to start in 2007.

I notice Jet2 have also slipped in NCL - Bergen flights onto the site.

Timetables etc suggest a 3 weekly service April-October.

Yes, Jet2 website is showing Newcastle - Bergen

Seems an odd one for Jet2 to take on! Looks like it is also 3 x weekly according to their online timetable.

No press release yet though but the flights are available for booking!

Bergen

Seems really odd that "2"airlines are now taking bookings on this route. Both on same days?

Different flight times though. Be interesting to see if WF pull off the route now that Jet2 have announced it.

JET2 or WF

I would like to see JET2 pull off.

I think that it is nice to see a smaller airline giving NCL a chance for a change even though the fares will be a lot higher.

Madrid will never be done by WF so let them have bergan.

(hopefully we would then see both routes instead of 1)

The airport management just want to move as many pax as possible, jet2's fares and aircraft the mean they will move more pax than WF.

Ncl---stavanger

NCL to Stavanger to go twice daily from 1 May. Can anyone confirm.

Will be very surprised if they proceed with plans to start Bergen in competition with Jet 2.

Jet 2 announcements now in press and both Ncl airport and Jet 2 website. No announcements from Wilderoe!

There are still other opportunities for Wideroe though looking at their routemap - some of the destinations would support this type of frequency.

There is a press release on the Norwegian version of Widerøe's website.

Something along the lines of:
Widerøe will boost their routes to Great Britain, and begin direct flights between Bergen and Edinburgh and Newcastle on 26th March. Flights will be three times weekly using 50-seat Dash 8-300. Fares will be as low as 994 NOK. .... Newcastle is a good alternative to London as a short break destination. The city is friendly, cheap and stress-free. Newcastle has history, parties, football and culture. Direct from Bergen.

994 NOK is about £80, so quite a bit more than Jet2.

I read about Wideroe and 2 x daily to Stavanger from 1st March on another news website. I can't find any other evidence of this anywhere.

Jet 2 to Bergen

Some interesting quotes on the NIA website:

Philip Meeson "Jet2.com’s new service to Bergen will also be the first in the UK outside of London to serve the city,..."

Aberdeen??

John Parkin "This is a brand new destination for Newcastle International and we’re thrilled to be able to meet the demand for this route. It is the first time the stunning Fjords of Norway have been accessible by air from this region, at such a low cost..."

He might be referring just to low cost, but Braathens??
