"We remain confident that it is only a matter of time before we secure such a service and together with ONE North East discussions are being reopened with a number of other airlines which had expressed interest in operating services between Newcastle and New York.''
The above was I believe said by Parkin back in mid December when attempting to address the AA NCL pullout debacle. Curiously since this statement was made I have read nothing anywhere to provide any clarification as to the substance of this remark.
"A number of other Airlines" ? had expressed interest... like who ? I can only think of one which would have been capable & that is CO, so who else was the rest of this "tosh" about?
Readdressing CO, who actually can produce anything relevant to suggest that they were actually interested once they had set up BFS,BRS & EDI ?? It is not necessarily logical to suggest that with this amount of exposure to "thin" EWR routes that they never even considered looking any further & that anything else is pure wishfull thinking.
You can even take this a step further as development of any route new or old requires additional aircraft & dissapointingly it seems to me that CO's current strategy is perhaps more akin to utilising any spare 757 availability on further route development from it's existing bases, which when the emotion is removed is perhaps a much more sensible business strategy.
So back to my original question... are any of you readers out there able to enlighten me as to what actually went on ?

Wideroe/SAS has changed the Bergen frequency again in answer to the Jet 2 incursion. Now 2 x weekly on Thursday and Saturday.
Th. SK3160/1 arr NCL 0855 dep NCL 0925
Sa. SK3160/1 arr NCL 1210 dep NCL 1240
This seems to be a good solution giving NCL a daily service except Mon/Tues

Does anybody know what is going to be in place of the old Callers Pegasus travel agency? Currently there is building work going on behind screens. Had heard a rumour that the Information Desk would relocate there and more check in desks to go where current info desk is, anybody know if this is the plan or indeed is it going to be a juice bar, as someone else mentioned? More check in's would be a good idea, as again space is at a premium during the summer, with all the extra charters and new services.

Does anyone have any firm news as to whether XL will be operating the -400 out of NCL for the summer? I had heard that XL had sold the -400's and they were to be converted to cgo A/C.

Yes, the current plans for XL's summer 06 programme ex NCL is the opertion of the 737-400, as last year. As far as I am aware the a/c is currently flying out of other UK airports during the winter before returning to NCL for the summer. XL will also sublease the Finnair 757 that Air Scandic previously used. However, as we all know anything could change in the world of airlines, as I'm sure many airlines have still not finalised their programmes for the summer yet.
skyman771,
You are quite right the airport doesn't need extra desks for transatlantic services during the summer, but if you look at say the busiest day of the week, between about 0400-0900 there are a hell of alot of flights to checkin, indeed early departures remain largely unchanged in terms of number of flights. A typical saturday,
6 EZY 737
2 LS 737
2 BA
1 KL, SN, AF, FR
3 TOM 757/733
1 MYT 320
2 XLA 737/757
2 TCX 757
1 MON A330
1 FUA 737
1 Flybe 146/Dash 8
Thats 25+ flights within a couple of hours, all checking in together!!! As I said, more check in's needed, thats without transatlantic scheduled services, though I share in your tears skyman771!!!!!!!!

as mentioned ncl are to get 737-400 TF-ELY it's been in brs all winter think it is with the company until october.also a 757 which at the moment is a finnair so all ncl crew will be fleeted either 757 or 737-400/800 as will not be able to operate both due to aoc on the finnair.

With regards to 757 leased off Finnair by XLA, I heard that XL were trying to lease it fully and operate it on the G register, therefore allowing crews to operate all aircraft based at NCL, but wether AY will agree is uncertain. It seems like alot of work for just 5 1/2 months, remembering that AY always take the 757 back half way through october, in readiness for their own busy schedule. Having it on the G reg would make alot of sense, and allow XL to paint it in their own colours
Is Jet2 actually basing a 757 at NCL? If so, they must have more planned for it than 2 TFS flights per week, and I can't see them using a 235 seater on the rest of the NCL routes (MJV, PSA, AMS, BGO, MAH) as I really don't think they warrant it, particularly during the winter months. Maybe new routes are on the way, possibly to ski destinations for the winter season...?
