This is not an extra flight as such, it is the same flight as last summer.
Split between a Charter and Schedule, only just over 100 seats avail to buy and aircraft is an A300.

Palma appears to be part of a 'W' pattern orginating elsewhere.

I can remember when Monarch Crown flew this route (before the orangeJet mob started flying to Palma)!

No news on the Monarch web site announcing it, so could there be more to come?

As this flight did in S05.

Lanzarote and Grand Canaria re-visited apart from the 'W' pattern!.

Nice to see the Australian bound A300's are still giving sterling service after all these years. Non Runner, Non Starter, Jump Start, & Might Run.

Luton could well have the largest 'Low Cost' airliner visit next summer!

If anyone has the ear of Styrian Spirit, they might like to suggest an english language booking engine?
Being worked on; expected to be up & running in two/three weeks.

First service ex LTN starts this saturday. Forward bookings, aparently, looking quite good.

Just met a friend off a flight at LTN. Had to use the short-term carpark. Time of entry to time of exit 29 minutes. Cost £3.50. Blimey!!. Prices seem to be going up like a rocket - £6.00 for 90 mins. Are these charges some of the highest of any uk airports ?. Can't be far behind LHR.

For the first time in 7 years I made a trip to Stansted to fly out with Ryanair. The last time I was there Luton was still using their 1966 terminal for check-in and the contrast could not have been bigger. Now I had the opportunity to compare the new Luton with an even bigger Stansted.

Well I have to say that the gulf between the two airports is still enormous. The first thing I noticed at Stansted was the sweeping dual carriageway right to the front of the terminal. Despite arriving at a busy period the drop off zone was easily accessible with no cars parked at the terminal front with drivers waiting to pick up passengers. Compare that with the clogged up drop off zone at Luton but then Stansted does have 15 minutes of free parking in their short term car park which is opposite the terminal.

Stansted’s terminal, which is full of glass, remains light and airy, it’s hard to believe that the same man designed both Luton and Stansted’s terminal.

I could go on and on but I would just depress myself.

Luton does beat Stansted though when it comes to broken floor tiles. I only saw one broken floor tile in the whole of Stansted airport. I see Luton has gained a few more this week by the new Costa Coffee shop in arrivals. The tilers can’t blame anyone for walking on their new floor while the grout was drying out this time as the whole area was cordoned off for days.

At least two of the A300's flew for Compass Airlines in Australia, I think Monarch operated them on behalf of Compass. They were repossessed and have been part of the Monarch fleet ever since. Well at least that is what I recall? Do a search on www.airliners.net and you will see them in compass colours.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compass_Airlines

http://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/C...story-a300.htm

As for Stansted, I maintain that the recent Tinminal upgrades at Luton have sent the place downmarket to match what is on offer in Essex, at least Luton has a star attraction unlike Stansted!

Stanley the Bear is not in the same league as Buster! It is a bit like comparing the Premiership with the Conference!

Question

I think you will find that Monarch leased them to Compass, so they have always been owned by Monarch, or Monarch's major share holder.

Don't blame LTN or LLAO - blame the DfT, Bedfordshire County Council and the 1970s time-warped Luton Borough Councillors and their so-called 'advisors'.

In contrast, BAA plc met half the cost of STN's M11 link road, with the DfT spending the tax-payers' money to cover the other half (an interesting use of public funds to the benefit of a private [airport] company in which one would have thought, the EU's Competition Commission might take an interest...) whilst of course, BAA and its subsidiary, STAL don't have to contend with the albatros of Luton Borough Council.

As to the terminal comparison, the relative costs were different and you can't get something for nothing. However, MoL seems quite satisfied with the less expensive 'budget' version at LTN.

And don't blame LTN or LLAO for not having any seating in Pier 'A' - it's all down to planning permission which you guessed it, sits with that 1970s albatross, Luton Borough Council.

It's just

I have to agree that Luton has spent a fraction of the amount that the BAA did, in order to replicate a cheap, low cost terminal, but then again the blame lies with TBI/LBC and not ACDL.

As for the road infrastructure, the M1 widening south of Luton starts in January. For anyone reading this thread who is planning to use the M1 to access the airport, check the Highways Agency web site and allow extra time to travel. I am sure that the agency will have excellent measures in place to ensure 3 lane availability both ways, but you only have to look at the delays west abeam of Heathrow on the M25 (now completed) to see how the 40 mph speed limit caused at times, long queues entering the road works.

In reality, there are so many smashes between Luton and the M25 (north and southbound), that a possible 40 mph limit might prevent the majority of these and actually keep this section of the M1 free flowing?

I guess it is Gatwick or Stansted?

Blue 1, which just announced it would add 3 MD90s to its fleet in 2006, also announced an expansion of its network with 11 new destinations. The airline will fly from Helsinki to Athens, Barcelona, Dublin, Düsseldorf, London, Madrid, Nice, Paris, Rome, Warsaw and Zurich.

powerjet1 was correct!

Bmi will not inaugurate service the planned service from Edinburgh to Munich next Spring as announced. The airline was unable to obtain the morning slots it was looking for.

I see Thameslink is to become First Capital Connect. Their website can be found by entering their name as one word.

An interesting use of public funds to the benefit of a private [airport] company in which one would have thought, the EU's Competition Commission might take an interest..
So too, the M25 signs which, with the exception of the ones on the approach to Junction 21, only direct drivers to Stansted and Heathrow (and Gatwick). Even the new ones erected near Heathrow following the road widening only refer to Stansted.

(BTW, London City doesn't fair any better!).

Obviously, the neddies in the Dept of Transport (Road Signs Section) haven't heard of Luton (or London City) or they failed geography GCSE and believe Luton is located in the Midlands and London City on the Essex coast!!

The first flight was actually on saturday and that did arrive on schedule. Don't know what the loads were though. As for the cancellation yesterday, I have no idea.

Have noticed that on some flights, especially if you don't stay a saturday night, some fares come up as business rates, at prices between 867 & 1259 euros return. Can't seem many people flying out of LTN at those prices.

So what sort of Mickey Mouse airline would operate a service to the UK and not have an English language website or booking engine.

I saw it reported elsewhere that EZY EDI-LTN is down to 1 per day in the summer schedule. GLA-LTN withdrawn altogether. Can anyone confirm this is correct

Don't think that have released EDI or GLA in total, as STN is the same. Can't believe they have withdrawn 5 or 6 services a day to each destination.
