Excel strikes again! Both 737 services delayed this morning as at least one a/c tech, and POP delayed inbound apparently due to an a/c fire after departure from POP.

Why the hell do people keep flying with them?

The Puerto Plata operation is completely unacceptable, surely the airport can't be allowing a similar operation next year by the same operator. I would have thought the tour operator can't be too happy with the current situation.

XLA657 07:15 PUERTO PLATA EXPECTED AT 0500

22 hours late! Serious, serious delays for the second week in a row, and countless times this summer! This gives people a good impression for Newcastle Airport's first summer season of flights to Dom Rep!

It's about times Excel get their aircraft sorted out! Look at http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/excel.htm and see how many people talk about technical probs on excel.

Problem seems to not be a fire, but an engine oil problem on TF-ATU?!

Looks like Jet2.com are to establish themselves at NCL. Check out http://www.channelexpress.co.uk/recruitment.html where they are advertising for cabin crew for NCL.

Jet2.com is coming to Newcastle, offering reliable, great value passenger flights with friendly service.
As Newcastle will be a new base, we are looking for both experienced cabin crew and people who want a new challenge.

JMCG i think it was, was sat on stand 8 most of this morning with the flaps down with a hydraulic leak - meant to be operating the 0905 pfo. Not sure why the FAO's delayed?

Doesnt seem to have been a good week for TCX at Newcastle mind you, quite a few been running off schedule.

Thanks Topjet!

they brought in an extra a/c from gatwick to help get things to normal and runnng on time!
I think both a/c went tech today, therefore the paphos flight (g-jmcg) was ove r7hrs late and then the other based a/c was late (tech i guess) therefore meaning the faro flight left 6hrs late.
The extra a/c operated the bodrum flight reducing the delay to just over 1hr, however the 23:20 ZAKYNTHOS is DELAYED UNTIL 0400

I hope everyting will be back to normal by tomorrow!

also, anyone have any ideas of the other based a/c and the one brought in from Gatwick?

Cheers
Jay

Not just Thomas Cook running off schedule, just about every airline is running off schedule if you look at the departure boards.

Excel again.......

Ive heard that AAI are getting rid of all the B734 B757 and B763?
and replacing them with B777 and A300 and A310.

If this is true i wounder what we can expect from excel for next summer as i cant see us getting a based A300 or A310 for some of the greek routes?

HH6702....

Im afraid your information is incorrect - we have been informed by a first hand employee that the 734 will be sold but the 763 and 757 will remain in the fleet.

I must say, I am somewhat surprised by the negative press Excel have received over the last few days. I appreciate the have had a horrendous summer but alot of the issues appear to have been technical, and safety is ALWAYS the bottom line in this business.

Staraviation

Whilst I agree 100% about safety being paramount, Excel is being pilloried over the frequent number of aircraft going tech on routes in and out of NCL. This seems to be far in excess of other operators. This, in turn, leads to speculation on the condition of the aircraft involved in the first place, hence people refusing to board etc.

This problem seems to have arisen at Excel since the takeover and it needs to be addressed before there is any more damage to the airlines repution.

Loss of future pax bookings by the tour operators will soon lead to loss of contracts for Excel.

Jamesair,

Every year one airline seems to experience a great number of delays - all the major charter carriers have had it including TCX and BY and it seems this year is XL's turn.

When pax refuse to board an aircraft due to safety concerns, this is obviously very worrying and is a matter which must be addressed. However, does anyone honestly think an engineer would sign the a/c off if he was not 100% happy? Also, do you think a captain would operate the flight?

I appreciate where you are coming from, but we are in the industry and deal with this everyday so I guess am seeing this from the airlines perspective.

staraviation you are quite right, every airline has had bad summers, ncl frequently suffers the worst. Nordic, transwede, seven air - all had bad bad delays and the likes of BY, MYT etc have suffered equally but none to the extent of XLA. Since the SFB and POP flights started only about 2 weeks worth of flights have left on time. Some delays have been 30+ hours. Staff are more than likely sick to the back teeth of them, indeed XL's own staff are very rarely seen during delays. And as for the 737-400 fleet, NCL deserves better. Puncuality last year with the -800 was excellent.

So far, for summer 2006 xl are looking at basing 3 737-800, one subchartered a/c, most likely SCY/AY 757 again and for the POP/SFB flights the 767-300 again (tf-atu), as this is all economy layout. TCX and Thomson Hols have already signed the contract apparantly.

Jet 2 base, more routes to come then????

Anyone know who will be handling AA?

Has anyone got a winter charter programme? Particularly ski flights?
