According to this evening's Chronicle the new Easyjet route to Faro shall give a £5 million boost to our region and create 51 jobs!! Who makes this bollocks up? Please can someone explain how? The Portugese shall be arriving by the plane load to Rip off Britain and our better climate, NOT! The Net impact on our region shall be negative!! The lambs off to the slaughter, as the sheep with their mortgage equity withdrawl go purchase property on the Algarve!

Chronicle Article
Did the airport not once say that for every new EZY route 50 jobs were created at check in, baggage, security, maintenance and externally too with taxi drivers etc. I'm sure I remember something being published a while ago!
New EZY Route
With a new aircraft do we not normally see 3 new routes? They've already announced one and if another is announced next week will they save the third route for the start of summer 06 when I presume the new aircraft will arrive?
Jet2 Expansion
Has anyone heard if Jet2 are planning to expand any further at NCL? They are advertising for crew so we have to presume they are setting up a 'real' base.
Thomsonfly
I heard a rumbling that TOM were planning on taking over the CGN and MUN routes from NCL for summer 06? Anyone heard anymore?
LCY
Anymore news on the LCY service?

EASYJET
They have a few of the winter routes operating at reduced frequency so can introduce more limited frequency routes for the winter season..NB that FARO becomes daily next year....expect the same with the next route announcement. Aircraft No. 7 will then have two new routes with either a third new route or frequency increase to be announced, making up the three rotation pattern.
LCY
I think we will get an announcement soon. I spoke to a mate who works at LCY who thinks a route announcement for NCL is due. (the airline he mentioned was not the one I expected him to say)

No way there are 50 new jobs created for every new route, especially not for easyjet, and especially not in check-in, baggage handling or any other aspect of the ground handling agent's operation. I doubt there is any recruitment at all, and what there is does little more than cover all those who leave. At present the net direction of staffing levels is definitely downwards.

From tonight's Evening Chronicle:
Jet2.com to Ibiza??? Where did that come from?? Surely they are getting it mixed up with Murcia.
Holiday firm Thomson's today announced a host of new low-cost flights from Newcastle.
The travel operator's Thomsonfly.com arm is launching four flights to popular Spanish destinations from May.
Tourists will be able to choose from beaches in Palma, Malaga, Alicante and Ibiza for their summer trip next year.
Prices start at £29.99 one way, including taxes and charges.
Thomson's already runs package holidays from the airport but Thomsonfly.com will offer low-fare flights along the lines of those of budget airline easyJet from Newcastle for the first time.
In summer 2006 Thomsonfly.com low fares flights will depart nine times a week from Newcastle to Palma and four times a week to Alicante, Malaga and Ibiza.
Alicante is the gateway to the ever-popular Costa Brava, while Malaga is perfectly located for the Costa del Sol and also has a beautiful old town area, making it ideal for a city break.
Ibiza is well-known as a party island, but also has great beaches, making it ideal for a family holiday too, while those heading to Palma can holiday with celebrities including Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas, who own a home there.
Budget airline Jet2 already flies to Ibiza. It launched a low-cost flight there earlier this year.
The service runs daily during the summer months and four times a week in the winter.
Guy Stephenson, commercial director of Thomsonfly.com, said the new services will be successful. He said: "Newcastle is a centre of economic activity and a very attractive destination for overseas visitors.
"We know that customers want choice and convenience and we are convinced that our new low-fares flights to these popular destinations from their local airport will be a great success."
Thomsonfly.com flights offer customers the chance to pre-book "Extra" seats which offer more space and comfort. There is also an in-flight refreshment service.
Thomsonfly.com was launched by Thomson in December 2003 and started flying from Coventry Airport in March 2004.
Today the firm is also launching flights from Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow, London Gatwick, Luton, Nottingham East Midlands and Birmingham.
Bookings can be made at www.thomsonfly.com. Those without internet access can call 0870 1900 737.

Well, a B738 can be done in 15 mins (FR CIA-MME-CIA!) I would guess the extra a/c might be a B738, apparently G-CDUO going to BYNordic with another B738 coming the other way
