Perhaps easyJet could start a route to CGN? Could further increase their presence at CGN.

My copy of tonights Chronicle has as advert from Ryanair flying to Dublin, Milan and Venice (Treviso). I'm thinking the Venice is a mistake and should read Oslo Torp.

HLX

Boys don't read into e-mails, it only means that summer 06 is not yet on sale! HAJ is a very good route for HLX. The only cloud is will HLX's parent company still be in the low cost airline biz next summer?
Both MUC & CGN are doing alright for the main summer months July & August, however with very little advertising the other months have not been good!
MUC does have a lot of potential if it is advertised right it could do well summer and winter, but CGN??
Both would fit a low cost 70 seater?? DH8D for example??

American Airlines JFK

When the route was announced local newspaper adverts stated that the new service would create 100+ jobs in the region, at the airport I suppose it mean't. Does this mean that AA are a sel-handling airline, as 100+ staff seems a little too many for 1 light per day? Or are they going to have a small team of Customer Service staff/ticket desk?

Things also seem to be taking a bit of a dip or NCL. Granted new routes are still being started, FR, AA etc but what of routes that the airport is loosing (HLX) and what of some of the rumours that were so prominent a while back? FlyBe etc.

The airport also needs to generate a greater charter programe for the winter season, the summer has a great selection, with more choice and requency added each year! 3 x weekly SSH flights for S06, maybe a HRG next...

Has anything more been heard about the Cancun charters for SO6 that were talked about a while ago?

Maybe HLX will come back next summer with Stuttgart and Hamburg.....I have a feeling that they are trying to see what routes will work. Hanover seems to work although nobody seemed to think it would at the time, pax figures have been consistently good.

I think I remember reading in a early issue of Airliner World magazine that FlyBE were to announce routes from Newcastle this year. Another was Czech airlines to Prague.

Cancun was metioned early this year but it soon died down and went quiet. Now it has bounced back into topic. Will this flight be operating next year?

Who knows?? Although they will also need staff to handle cargo.

I totally agree. We're clearly CGN and MUN from HLX though I did hear that it is hoped they will be reinstated for the summer 06 season. EUJ has also gone (though in terms of pax numbers this will minimal anyway). CGN and MUN should have worked with the right advertising all year round. EZY fly to CGN year round from EMA successfully and loads are apparantely very good. I do think the main part of the downfall has been HLX's failure to advertise anywhere outside of the airport. (Unlike Jet2! Their billboards for MJV have now started appearing in Newcastle City Centre!).

Hopefully, we'll see more. The last I heard was that we were still expecting another EZY aircraft and this generally means 3 new routes. FR is strongly rumoured to be announcing NYO at some point and if these routes do well they may expand to some of their german destinations.

I wouldn't hold our breaths for new routes from Flybe until at least summer 2006 now.

Though, maybe Jet2 will step in and plug some gaps in the loco market i.e. TFS! Who knows!

I'm hopeful that in a few years and if the JFK service proves to be a success that we'll get a lot more destinations announced from NCL. We'll just have to see how things go though!!

RYR to Torp, Jet2 to Murcia to start in the next month, think British Jet are on the scene at some point too?. The big one in May to JFK wont be the only new destination starting that week, need someone to confirm this but i think Morocco, Djerba, Cancun have all been mentioned. France still needs to be expanded similar to Flybe's routes out of Bristol, might take the arrival of the 195's before it happens, unles RYR take the plunge. While i'm on I want a low cost flight to Palma at a sociable hour, Jet2? early hours of the morning is no good to me Mr.Easy.

Jet2 are even advertising Newcastle in the Costa Blanca, Costa Calida (Sp?) and Costa Del Sol. They certainly do advertise a lot, which is why all of their routes do well.

CentreFix25, BritishJet will start flights from Newcastle on 04/11/05. BJ is another airline that seems to be doing a lot of advertising.

We'll be all Lo-Co'ed out soon. No wonder so many routes are being dropped.

Boys
Don't get too excited about a few route loses, these things happen, when you've have been in the industry as long as I have, you see plenty of changes. Just look at the Manchester thread for comings and goings of routes, its shows a healthy interest in the airport.
EUjet well…..never a serious player at NCL don’t know how they lasted so long! HLX well HAJ worked so they tried some others; let’s see if any come back next summer?
But look at the plus side AA!! Jet2!! And more FR. Also look out for some development news shortly and possible more good news for S06!!

There are still some route gaps to fill in my opinion, either loco or mainline. Particularly the following:

FRA (LH or BA? Not likely - we'll prob get FR to Hahn)
MAD (Prime EZY route!)
Krakow or Warsaw (Most likely loco)
French routes - we need them! Bordeaux, Toulouse etc
FAO (loco)

as well as more scheduled long haul.

But like 10 DME ARC says all airports go through ups and downs. The pax numbers combined on MSE, CGN and MUN will probably end up being less than TRP or MJV alone.

Let's hope more route announcements are made soon.

Lufthansa

I think DLH would like to start FRA probably on the same scale as AFR fly to CDG, like it was said in a previous post there are no Star Alliance airlines offering interlining from Newcastle. The problem arises in FRA with slot constraints.

However now that HLX are dropping MUC this wouyld also represent a good opportunity for DLH to offer connections to it's long haul network. Although there are fewer choices than at FRA there are considerably more than are currently on offer from DUS.

HLX

expect them to start stuggart early next year.

If they do pull out all together it will because TUI are going to close HLX down.
