If anyones interested, the Airshow in Portrush the weekend after next will see the Catalina based at Eglinton from the Friday til Sunday or Monday.
But the real gems that weekend will be the Pair of Belgian Air Force F16s (Display A/C plus spare) which will arrive on Friday and stay til Monday. They will be supported by an Embraer ERJ 135 or 145 on the Friday which will return again on the monday.
It was hoped that the Vulcan would have based here too but its not to be - its flying direct from its base in England, displaying and returning straight home grrr.
Eglinton has its first ever Falcon 7x visiting at present. OY-LDE. It departs tomorrow.

My flight to MAN is delayed to 14:15 due to a techni,al fault. Looks like it might be the left landing gear. 53 people got of the inbound service. I know the number for the outbound but will state when we've landed on the other side.

Just landed. Exactly 53 on outbound flight to so good 68% lfs! Promotion of the route on the inflight mag. It also stated next summers routes will be out in sept. Ties in with my theory that the route will end with.the new timetable anounced.

AE, I've seen the Vulcan flying in the UK in Oxfordshire area. Hell of a sight. It's a shame it's not basing at LDY during the show.

NC, yeah, those are very good LFs.....especially for a Thursday.

A real shame it's only got 5 or 6 weeks to go.

The flybe website shows the MAN route from LDY scheduled to drop to four weekly for the last few bookable weeks of service with the Saturday flight dropping off. Was this always programmed in this manner or has the change been made more recently?

The drop down box for LDY extends to March 2012 which would suggest that flybe have something in mind for the airport but there is still nothing yet bookable beyond September.

I phoned Flybe yesterday to ask what the situation is regarding LDY. He informed that the route is scheduled to stop on 25/09 as planned. He said it was only a new route that BE wanted to try to find out its popularity. He also said that the new schedules are released in Nov and we should expect the route to be on for next year again.

A little sad i know considering loads have been good.

Well, a bit of good news (maybe).

LDY-LPL goes to two flights on Saturdays and Mondays for January.

I don't know if this is a mistake on the booking engine, or if it's real. We'll see.

Ive got my fingers crossed carn! We just have to keep in mind that man was introduced as a seasonal route. If it returns, be have kept there promise and we can hope for a year round route from next year.
Other good news cu, those additions could bring in an additional 3000 pax for ldy. Obviously fe are paying attention to the need of students.

One final thought, if be do return, theyll need another bit of hype. Edi sure would help attain it. Keep hoping guys!

The double LPL flights on Sat & Mon seem a little strange, is it sustainable and they are quite close together. FR would have been better adding more STN rotations, I know it goes down to a/c availability and positioning but STN would have been good.

The LPL double flights on Mon + Sat has now been extended and includes Nov, Dec & Jan. I assume the Sat flight is for the football season and possibly the Mon for students heading back to Uni after a weekend home?

Fantastic news. If ldy can sustain these over what some would call "the quiet months",perhaps we'll see these maintained year round. Interesting I to note that these additionalflights will add almost the same capacity as the ldy-man route. Faux pas be? I believe so.

I'm away to Portugal for the weekend but when I looked at parking charges for 3 days it is cheaper for me to get a taxi from the city to the airport and back.

That makes absolutely no sense.

Even pre-booked parking is more than the taxis. And no doubt they'd want to charge for four days despite being away for less than 72 hours (departure Thursday 20:10 arriving back Sunday 19:45 but then additional time waiting for departure and queuing for customs upon arrival).

No way to run a business. I don't care if the car park is full, if there was a bigger car park and lower charges they'd make more profit.

Alicante?

Alicante has disappeared off the Ryanair route map again.

I know the season has finished but it isn't displayed as a summer route which it could be without deleting it.

I hope it is not going to be a victim of having had a short season which then affects loads due to the empty first and last flights being divided over a shorter season.

I have no idea how the cost of parking at LDY compares to other airports of similar size. I can tell you however, taxis in the Derry area are ridiculously cheap compared to other parts of the UK and Ireland.

As for Alicante, that'll probably be loaded next March (at the earliest!)

I think you can credit yourself with rather more economic rationality than most. People will drive themselves to airports and leave their cars there for weeks at vast cost compared to taxi-ing both ways. That's precisely why airports have cottoned on that they can charge whatever they damn well like for cars, and they'll keep coming. It's the most reliable money-spinner for any airport. Aircraft are incidental. In Derry's case, you're in that transition from a local authority-owned public infrastructure asset to a privately-owned source of income, so expect more of the same.
