Do you know if it is possible to conclude anything from the fact that in the end it has reverted to a 2-class operation or was this always going to be the case? Alternatively could it have been looking at whether 3-class was viable in the future for example if a future A380 service should be 2 or 3 class?

Good point, although the cargo is so important from BHX that the 777 may be with us for ever.

Google flights

There are so many sites available that I thought the improved Google flights may be yet another also-ran but I have to say that I am impressed.
I have tried some easy short hauls out of BHX, together with a straight forward long-haul out of LHR AND a complicated long-haul again out of BHX and I found the results excellent.

OltonPete- Thank you very much for the information looks like we may go for the BHX option and I will cross my fingers for it to be a 757 on the day.

I wouldn't rely too much in the extra legroom row seat theory though as they are offering that on EMA flights as well which is a just 738 base and I believe the whole short haul fleet now have this seating configuration

It is widely anticipated that an announcement regarding a summer program of flights to China will be made this week!!!
China Southern could well be returning after last years successful flights.

Hainan

According to this news report an official announcement made today! 17 return flights a big increase on last years series by China Southern, fantastic news!! Article states it is for Caissa Touristic. Interestingly this is a German-Chinese owned travel group (head office Hamburg) formed in 1993 who focus on operating tours designed specifically for the outbound China-Europe market.

Article also says these flights are being operated as part of a long term plan to launch scheduled flights from BHX to China, which could have a ring of truth to it as Hainan have a hub in Beijing unlike China Southern. In Europe, Hainan currently serve Berlin, Brussels, Paris CDG and from June, Rome. They no longer serve Budapest and Zurich. Whatever pans out, well done to BHX for securing another Chinese summer flight program!

Brilliant news for BHX.
The news may go down like a lead balloon on the MAN thread though as they were expecting an announcement from Hainan Airlines any time now.

Great to see BHX building on the success of last years flights; wonder if they'll be using the A330 or the 787?

Hainan

Flights operate on Monday and Friday throughout July and August

Interesting quote from Jo Lloyd, Birmingham's Commercial Director, “Not only is this a significant market test, it paves the way for future sustainable scheduled flights into Birmingham from China that will support the growth in Chinese visitors as well as the region’s economy. We are also hopeful that flight programmes will include departures from Shanghai and Guangzhou as well as Beijing to Birmingham in the future”

Turkmenistan

Reported on another forum Turkmenistan will upgrade their 757/737 Askgabat/India flights to 777 equipment this summer. Scheduled airlines are upgrading aircraft types into Birmingham all the time

Think it's an exhibition for companies to showcase their products to various airports, things such as birdscarers, new lighting that sort of stuff?

[ things such as birdscarers, new lighting that sort of stuff]
Any chance that BHX could invest in something that gets the luggage onto the belts in less than 45 minutes?
SS
My last 5 arrivals, four took between 40 and 60 minutes to arrive and only one, an EK flight was speedy,25 minutes from disembarkation.

O.K. thanks Graham

SS Flyer :

I believe that there is a project to upgrade the baggage handling facility to double it's current size to be completed in 2017. The bad news is that most of the work will enable the screening of outbound baggage to be quicker and not necessarily incoming .
