There is much 'chatter' - again about QR starting the DOH route with an A350 from Sept on other forums. Quote "people in the know have heard......."

We'll see!

Mmm ill be watching what happens to QRs 60-70 loads at EDI when they go daily and EY starts and TK go back up to higher frequency. Might be one to watch. A transfer of their 787? A BHX OneWorld hub if ever i saw one.

"I have noticed that the new third daily 41/42 flight times have been changed. Someone has finally noticed that there will be no stand available until later in the morning! The times are now 07:50/09:40, originally it was 07:10/09:1"

That is really good news. I have booked on 42 and that will give me an extra half hour in bed..

With JLR pondering "electric expansion" to Austria, this could finally mean a return of a direct Austria link. (Arguably, choosing the States would firm up transatlantic demand, but personally I'd much prefer being able to fly to the alps ).

last week I travelled through the South area (this is what the airport refer to the old Euro hub terminal) and it is now a very pleasant experience compared to a few years ago . So now the inside has been refurbished the next project due to happen this year in this area is the removal/upgrade/replacement to the air bridges. In my opinion the airbridges on stands 1 - 3 may as well be demolished tomorrow as they are only used as glorified steps for the RYR operation and the steps out to stands 8 are very precarious to say the least . Hopefully a plan will be put forward to create a holding area for the stands that need bussing and a more passenger friendly way of getting the pax out onto the tarmac for flights that don't use the airbridges while on stand. Either way I don't think we will have the amount of airbridges we do now.

Getonnit.

How many of the air bridges are actually used on the old Eurohub, as you say many are just used as steps.

At present seems only the likes of Fly Be and Ryan Air are big users of its aprons.

Wonder as they are putting new air bridges in, whether they plan to shake it up and have other airlines with larger planes using them.

Anyone know ?

Nigel,

Of the original 10 air bridges that were built with the terminal , only 5 are still regularly used. Stands 1-3 as I said not used , stand 4 is used by flybe , mainly on the CDG route , 8R is used mainly by the 195 when here , the air bridge on stand 13 has had its head cut off and steps permanently in place but is mainly used for the Eastern Jetstreams , and there are air bridges in use on stands 14-16. Sometimes if more than 4 RYR in together one has to use the air bridge when using these stands.

I would guess Norwegian might use air bridges

Good news is that a good number of flights to/from Malaga are nearly full, although there are still plenty of bargain tickets around, i think once flights start in a couple of weeks and the publicity that goes with it the loads will further tick upwards

MAD looks weak part from a odd few days.

Needs a few based units for FAO,PMI,IBZ,MAH, I still expect TFS/LPA this winter

Norwegian

LNIDA

I looked to use the Madrid just after Easter and the prices were not bargain basement and I ended up booking Paris but I have noticed that the outbound BHX prices have come down.

I would definitely use them October half-term if they choose to operate Madrid although the timings are not great for the UK based short-break traveller but I suppose you lose one way or other if it is morning, afternoon or evening flight with a Spanish based aircraft.

They should have no problem filling the Canaries in the winter, as the offering from BHX is only moderate. Not sure what they were thinking of with the Barcelona though.

getonitt,

Unless they plan to get more airlineswith larger planes to use those stands can't see the need therefore to replace them Just replace the steps down ?

At what, £250,000 each is it worth it.

I think they can still get a 747 on stand 8C but think the air bridge is gone.

Not seen one there since BA 008 diverted in must be 12 years ago.

Ryanair winter 15/16

Although not released there seems to be an increase, the days of operation and times are showing just all sold out.

Three based but the good news is not many gaps

Kaunas is the only route not showing

The good news Palma appears to be back Wednesday and Sunday.

Malaga goes from 3 - 4 a week and Alicante from 4 to 5 a week, Tenerife from 2 to 3 week so a net gain of three flights thus far.

Faro changes day to away based Monday and Friday, Barcelona stays away based on the same days and times.

Las Palmas changes to Monday BHX based and still only one a week with FUE the same moving to Friday.

Dublin is 4 a day with the first 2 flights Dublin based and the later two BHX based.

Room for Shannon if necessary

Sunair

I sent an email to Sunair requesting information about possible flights BHX - GOT they came back to me saying that the route is planned to operate but no start date set yet and to refer to the website for updates. It might still happen......

Cheers for the update GF. I wondered what happened to that route. Would be good to see BA colours back at BHX.

On a wider note, while I love BA's product, they will have to come to me for all future business. I live in a city nearly twice the size of Boston, and yet it is unserved by the so called flag carrier. Who wants to drive 2hrs either end of a long haul flight, pay extra parking, hotels, etc, when a taxi can get me home in 20mins from BHX? No one seems to have told BA that around 42million of the 62million British people don't actually live in the South East!

I'm going to New York in May, and it's with AA from BHX. Next year, I plan another trip to the Western US, to LAX or DEN, and that will be with United or AA from BHX via EWR or JFK. Heathrow isn't even in the equation.

EK at BHX - nearing 5m pax

Emirates launched Dubai in Mid December 2000 and will be going three daily from August.

I estimate that they will be passing the 5m passengers mark anytime now.

A real success story, lets hope Qatar see the potential from BHX at some point in the near future.

Dubai will overtake Dublin as BHX most popular route in 2015 at over 600,000 pax

Passengers by year

2000 = 3,851
2001 = 122,208
2002 = 162,823
2003 = 164,999
2004 = 186,773
2005 = 231,462
2006 = 308,825
2007 = 369,990
2008 = 395,194
2009 = 436,761
2010 = 497,362
2011 = 499,973
2012 = 473,757
2013 = 499,573
2014 = 527,859

Total = 4,881,410

Dubai will overtake Dublin as BHX most popular route in 2015 at over 600,000 pax
Not sure 2015 will be the year perhaps 2016. Dublin carried over 665,000 (over 100,000 more than 2013) in 2014 so even with a third daily can EK manage to add 138,000 and that is assuming DUB stays flat but in January 2015 it added 11,000 more passengers than same period in 2014!

Turkmen

Adrian68.

Looking at the posted timetable the 777 has come at the expense of one of the weekly flights as the schedule is currently 4 days per week.
