Yup, what VJW said. You'll need a UK licence for a UK base.

highfive 5th November 2018 13:40

Strange that they would advertise for UK bases and ask to convert your licence to a german or Austrian one prior to joining?
i know the legalities for UK AOC, but Brexit turmoil and companies preparing for plan B or C may mean big changes for everyone.

Merovingio 5th November 2018 13:43

any problem transferring licence to Austria?

737 Jockey 6th November 2018 08:28

Any NTR DEC or DEFO received a course start date for early 2019? If so, for which base? 👍🏻

Reversethrustset 6th November 2018 11:47

Nothing yet (DEC), they said at my selection day there was no holdpool and they'll offer start dates with the yes but I'm still waiting

Slightly concerning as I’ve been in the hold pool since April... 😬

Reversethrustset 6th November 2018 15:27

Which bases did you specify at your selection day?

Well, seeing as my application was specifically for LGW & LTN, I put those plus STN.

Not much will happen for none type rated until Brexit is sorted out. All companies holding back on base commitments until they know the lay of the land.

Type rated guys continue to get start dates. Easier to train and transfer licences to another competent authority if necessary.

Unless a NTR pilot has an EASA licence that is non British then Brexit is immaterial as their licence will remain EASA regardless.

Not sure about that. One guy on my DEC assessment day was called back in August for LGW start date early December. He is NTR DEC EASA IE Licence.

Highfive were you specifically told this or is it just your opinion? I know Brexit is a nightmare for some companies, easyJet would seem to be pretty well prepared what with its Austrian AOC etc. Saving any doubt, wouldn't U.K. based recruits be flying G reg aircraft hence operating this aircraft using their U.K. license? If your U.K. EASA license has to drop the EASA bit then surely the CAA will cater for this to take place whilst simultaneously allowing the UK’s aircraft to be adequately crewed?

I did that. Doesn’t make any difference. You’ll currently pay for it one way or another - either upfront or through your net salary. To be honest I don’t regret joining for one second.

Do you know if the option to have type rating cost taken from net salary is available to SO’s and FO’s applying for their first airline job at easyJet? I will be starting an integrated ATPL next year so trying to find the most cost effective way of getting my first type rating (currently RYR sponsored type rating seems to be the way to be the most likely option)

VJW 7th November 2018 11:11

To my knowledge that option is only available to non rated Captains going to UK bases. Last I heard going to Portugal based or Mallorca would mean the company would pay for the type rating and you’d be bonded, but any other European base would mean a non rated Captain would have to pay upfront.

AFAIK every single DEFO is having to pay upfront and they’re coming with airline experience obviously. Having a salary sacrifice joining EasyJet as a cadet I would imagine won’t ever be available.

dirk85 7th November 2018 12:08

The plan is to take most of the initial trainings in house, so maybe something will change in that regard, who knows.

I was under the impression Portugal bonded type ratings applied to both DEFO and CA. All other bases for DEFO you have to pay up front!

On the website right now the only positions for FO’s in Portugal is for type rated applicants - so people who don’t require a full type rating.

Regarding doing training in house - that may well be true, but doesn’t mean it’ll be free....

Has anyone been to an assessment day recently? Non Type Rated FO.

The Cleaner 15th November 2018 11:51

Had email a couple of weeks ago saying assessment dates would be available shortly, but nothing else as yet??

Razor88 15th November 2018 12:20

Berlin. The Cleaner, you may want to email them cause they released the dates a couple of weeks ago or so.
