Where have you got the information that they requires a JOC that consists of 16 hours sim time?

_ShIfTy_ 20th September 2011 18:59

I found out from Jet 2 HR that you need 16 hours.

PPRuNeUser248605 20th September 2011 20:01

Thanks for that Shifty, I don't suppose you asked anymore about it did you? Specifically if they will even consider your application without one and if they are interested make an offer on condition of one being completed prior to commencing a type rating etc

binsleepen 20th September 2011 20:45

My post 676 from last year

All the inexperienced non-type rated guys recruited for this year had been on a JOC. Although a JOC is a bit of a waste of money as everything in it is covered by a TR course, its possession, or not, by applicants was used to 'thin the field' from the hundreds of applications.
From the low houred guys the applications were in the thousands and probably are again. The holding of a JOC or not will just be one criteria among many used to reduce the number of applicants for an assessment day from thousands to less than a hundred.

All the best

_ShIfTy_ 21st September 2011 09:19

I said I would pay for a JOC if I was successful. Didn't work, currently applications cannot be considered if you don't have a JOC.

Jet2 Aptitude tests

Hi,

Has anyone had an assessment day with Jet2 recently? Particularly in relation to the aptitude tests?

WX Man 22nd September 2011 06:40

JOC course

Serious? Is this a requirement for everyone, or just low hours non TR applicants?

Tech interview/Q's

Anyone know if there are technical q's in the interview? Or an ATPL-style paper?

clunk1001 22nd September 2011 11:45

JOC needed for low hour non-TR guys.

As for the OAA link for low hour applicants, not sure Jet2 HR would open the floodgates for all to apply if they only intended to take OAA grads - they'd just have gone straight to OAA. But nothing would surprise me.

With the thousands of applicants they've no doubt received they may decide just to look at OAA or similar integrated grads just to save trawling through all the applications.

Foniac 22nd September 2011 12:26

Just a heads up for you... I just received a phone call from HR at Jet2 for my low hours application.

windshear-a-head 22nd September 2011 12:30

Thanks for the update, when did you put your application in?

Foniac 22nd September 2011 12:31

Probably around a month ago.

Burger81 22nd September 2011 12:38

Mod or Int?

Kieran,

Congratulations on the call, good luck.

Would you mind disclosing whether you are intergrated or Modular and if Int, are you from OAA?

Thanks

Foniac 22nd September 2011 12:46

I'm integrated from OAA. Finished in July 2011.

Burger81 22nd September 2011 12:48

Thanks Kieran, Good luck.

An early sign that it doesn't look good for non OAA or Modular guys then

oogerbooger 22nd September 2011 13:01

JOC

Magicmick is (as far as I am willing to hedge my bets) correct and very true in his advice of not going out to 'buy' a JOC rating

windshear-a-head 22nd September 2011 13:04

4400TT for me with about 3500 on 73's and 700 on Airbus. I was modular back in the day, i'm not holding out either.....:ugh:

PPRuNeUser248605 22nd September 2011 13:20

Have you completed a joc Kieran and if so how many hours in the sim did you do on it?

Foniac 22nd September 2011 13:23

Yes. I did it as part of my integrated course at Oxford. I have a total of 36 hours in the 737 sim.

4Screwaircrew 22nd September 2011 16:03

OAA do not have sole rights to supply pilots with low hours, we take modular and integrated graduates. The standard of both varies a great deal, as does that of the ex service pilots; all are looked at and assessed.

MD11Man 22nd September 2011 16:24

Lots of complaints about JOC courses...

I understand that it is not nice if you have to pay for it yourself, but when I came out of flight training and straight onto the 737, it made the transition from ME pistons to a jet a lot smoother.

Oh and don't know about ATPL questions - I didn't get any...

WX Man 22nd September 2011 18:58

OK, so "low hours" non TR guys need a JOC course.

What's "low hours"? Less than 500? So, for example, an instructor with 1500 hours might be exempt from this requirement?

Wellington Bomber 23rd September 2011 06:41

so if a jet guy went on a TP would he have to pay to go on a TP orientation course.

NO, did not think so, whats the  difference

Snobbery, thats all it is

StopStart 23rd September 2011 15:41

Does anyone know what sim Jet2 use for their Sim Assessments? I'm guessing a 733....
:)

gissabreak 23rd September 2011 18:50

Hi. Does anyone know the position for B757 Type Rated with no previous commercial experience (did this as a last resort when "promised" a job!). Lots of hours instructing. Classified in the "low houred, non experienced" category and want to make sure someone agrees having done a jet type rating won't still rule me out as not having a JOC. Just worried an HR person will simply look for a JOC and nothing else. Cheers

It's not impossible, but...

The nature of the Jet2.com operation means that you would need a minimum of 40 sectors to get through line training. That is a lot of flying during the off season... This will be a BIG barrier to you. They may take it is an "advanced JOC" (my definition) and so put you on the B737 if you pay for the TR - they work much harder and much more frequently during the winter so the 40 sectors isn't so much of a problem.

Don't give up though, there are all sorts of weird and wonderful contracts out there, and luck seems to play a large part in it.

NukeHunt 24th September 2011 01:49

Any ideas if the contracts are 70% or 100% this time round?

I've done a JOC having never flown a jet and it was the biggest
waste of money I have spent. The theory taught me nothing I
wasn't already aware of and the sim time was just spent doing
Loft excersises just like on the MCC. Total waste of time and money.
Just another way to screw money out of desperate wannabe's.

4Screwaircrew 24th September 2011 05:55

Contracts are 100% however 70 % is available on request.

jpboy 24th September 2011 10:12

Nukehunt,

Which company did you use for the JOC?

As with any commercial enterprise different standards prevail. MD11Man gained from the experience. Wellington Bomber I understand your frustrations, getting your bum on the seat is all that matters. In the worst case scenario it is a hoop that needs to be jumped and used as a filter to weed through over 2000 applications. Better case is that it is an ideal lead in for the type rating which results in less stress on an expensive and career defining course.

Good luck to all in the hunt.

gissabreak 25th September 2011 13:25

Thanks Dwshimoda, guess i'll have to pluck up he courage to ring Casey Prince / HR and find out straight.

ConcordeLegacy 25th September 2011 17:11

Does anyone have the number as the one given previously has been disconnected probably due to the issue of having applications going missing and what not.

binsleepen 25th September 2011 18:25

It was disconnected because after his number was put on PPRUNE he was inundated with calls and was unable to do his job.

Regards

drag king 25th September 2011 21:36

It was disconnected because after his number was put on PPRUNE he was inundated with calls and was unable to do his job.
While I do understand the reason behind the decision I wonder why they do not invest some (small) cash to improve the application platform all together. All airlines seem to blow the same trumpet: "...we want to hire the best, highly motivated and skilled people, true team-players and well-balanced individuals keen to join our dynamic environment etc,etc..." but let poor IT to waste people's time or even worse toss a 1000s hrs TP guy (and relative airmanship that would come attached...) in favour of an upper-market FTO cadet just because he/she can be moulded, they have JOC...bla, bla, bla...

Jet2 might not be one of the above (Mr. Prince kindly acknowledged my application being in the system after I emailed him) but it really doesn't cost much to say "...yep,we got it/work in progress/no thanks but no...".

Having said that I am already looking forward since I am not TR, low-ish TT (just thar dirty 1000/TP...:E) and...NO JOC!!! Hope my boss never finds out or he will cut my salary because I have nowhere to go...:{

flyhigh2fly 26th September 2011 20:34

What's the pay like for experienced fo? Staff travel? Pension? Lol? Is there a yearly increment on salary? thanks a lot

There wasn't much info on ppjn.

Penworth 27th September 2011 14:33

I think jet2 should just go back to the old fashioned paper cv like they had a couple of years ago until this online system can be made to work properly, this current system is a joke!

Flyhigh - fo pay is about £43k basic. sfo pay is about £46k basic but i believe goes up to about £49k in april. You'll be an fo when you join regardless of how experienced you are and will only get sfo pay after 3 years. No increments, staff travel is possible but you need to know how to work the system to get it. The company put 6% into the dc pension for fo's and 8% for captains.

G-IZMO 27th September 2011 20:17

Any hint of 'salary reductions' if the company pays the rating?

Narrow Runway 28th September 2011 15:40

I applied ages ago, at least a year ago, and heard nothing.

Just had a call today from a nice guy in recruitment. Asked if I was still interested in a DEC post.

Sadly, I'm not, but it shows a lack of Skippers out there who are available IMHO.

NukeHunt 29th September 2011 01:52

Any update from the recent interview dates? Inside info, hints etc?

Anyone actually been offered a job yet?

jpboy 29th September 2011 20:06

Narrow Runway,

Plenty of quality DEC Skippers but I would take the phone call as a compliment.

Since the HR email and number were publicised the network went into meltdown. I believe a couple of skippers have been drafted in to help with the workload and as we know part of any situation analysis is a review. Part of that was a look through the labyrinth that is the Bond application for any quality that may have been missed first time around, yours must have fallen into that category :ok:

No offence to anyone still not contacted, just a bunch of boys and girls trying to do their best.

ITFC1 30th September 2011 14:46

Did my assessment, passed the compass tests well, interview ok.

2500TT, 750 jet, 1100 turbine, UK, Europe, mid east, Asia, USA experience.

Got rejected.

Good luck to all.

Narrow Runway 30th September 2011 15:11

JP Boy,

I do take it as a compliment that I received a call.

If there are plenty of quality DEC available, I'm still slightly surprised that they bothered contacting an applicant from over a year ago.

Glad to hear that a robust review system is in place however.

For the record, if my situation hadn't changed, I'd have jumped at a chance to interview.
