LOTSO

Those comments are a bit harsh, and well out of left field.

What is your problem, why start bad mouthing me, what have I ever done to you?
I have only ever tried to give people an honest reply to questions, obviously from my perspective. It sounds like you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder about something.

Having been flying 'commercial' for 7 months now it's not very different to the military. You take off, fly and land, no big difference certainly to mil heavies.

Perhaps Jet2 are keen on the military because of the expertise that they bring to the company beyond the ability to fly such as; management experience; human factors instructional qualifications, experience of flight safety issues within a large organisation, the list is endless.

It may be that we just check our spelling before posting. I'm always willing to give my

expert opinoin
on things like that.

Regards

PS thanks Crag

Or maybe it's just because elements of management are bias towards the mil, jobs for the boys?

LOTSO 4th August 2011 19:30

By the way Craggenmore.....the term we use is First Officer...... not Co Pilot......hope there are no spelling errors in this post....it sometimes happens when you can type with more than one finger........at least you'll all have the luxury of spell checker for your BA applications...

Binsleepen

"Is it normal to be invited to HK and they appear to willing to pay for my wife and I to fly to HK for 4 days."

......great grammar.....people in glass houses

freightdoggy dog 4th August 2011 21:27

Tea and biscuits...Nine o'clock prayers....you'll love it....Mil guys are employed because they have a good pension and keep the costs down. Fly from A to B, keep your mouth shut and you will go far. :=

PURPLE PITOT 5th August 2011 10:51

Bang on FDD! You're not here because you are good, or because of your experience, but because you are CHEAP, and willing to blindly follow orders!

P.S Thoroughly enjoyed my time there, just much better off now!

Trossie 5th August 2011 12:45

binsleepen: You don't seem to spend a lot of time 'sleepen' (or flying!) because you're on this an awfull lot! ("scratchingthesky" and "freightdoggy dog" seem similar!)

LOTSO: Glad to see your insistence on the term 'First Officer', I think 'co-pilot' is horribly outdated and its use shows someon'e 'mind set'! (By the way, it's spelt "grammar"!)

Hey guys, anyone who is ex-military and over-inflates their marvellous 'attributes' is just as much of an arsehole as those who thinks the ex-military don't know what they're doing! I've flown with a lot of people from a very big range of backgrounds and you know what, as long as they haven't had too big a head, most of them are great! Some of the 'problem cases' probably have been those who are freshly out of the military who have a big ego, similar to some of those with a fresh licence paid for by daddy, but again give a bit of time in the real world for some of the cow dung to wear off and they can be just as great!!

Now... any jobs going?

Tourist 5th August 2011 13:19

"I've flown with a lot of people from a very big range of backgrounds and you know what, as long as they haven't had too big a head, most of them are great!"

No.
Unless you have been extraordinarily unlucky, you have sat next to a range of characters from a wide range of backgrounds whilst the aircraft purveyed you effortlessly from place to place doing 95% of the workload for you. The only time a civilian pilot in a modern airliner "flys" is when the autopilot/engines die and gives the aircraft back to you as a pile of !!!!e.
That is when you find out if ex-military are any better or worse.
With any luck, you and I will never find out.

What you are talking about is whether we are any more or less pleasant to spend time with in the cockpit whilst we eke out our careers waiting for that one moment where we earn all the money they pay us for.

I'm not saying we are better, but ask the passengers who ended up in the Hudson, or the ones who ended up in the Atlantic.

Craggenmore 5th August 2011 17:32

Glad to see your insistence on the term 'First Officer', I think 'co-pilot' is horribly outdated and its use shows someon'e 'mind set'!
Please explain?

I used the term 'co-pilot' on this anonymous forum as I do not know if probationary PPRuNer LOTSO's colleagues were either Captains, Senior First Officers, First Officers, Junios First Officers or Cadets. Or perhaps Wing Commanders and so on.

By the way Craggenmore.....the term we use is First Officer
What do you mean by 'we'?

freightdoggy dog 5th August 2011 21:16

Purple Pitot,i have to agree, thoroughly enjoyed my time there too and now also in a much better place..... Oil...which you all want :p

And in a place where pro actively engaging, actually means getting the job done, not dreaming up a 2.1 thesis in a side show called GDF.

Yes jobs for the boys and girls...plenty of them in the porta kabins lol

jpboy 6th August 2011 20:42

Pprune always entertaining when the mud flies!

I've seen things from both sides of the fence and I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I've flown with outstanding pilots from both backgrounds.

Whether your mantra is "Never go to war with a  on your wing" or "Never cross the pond with a  in the other seat" I hope we'd all agree on wishing to fly with professionals who by their example make our jobs easier.

JOC, MCC, aptitude testing, sim assessments, psycho analysis, group exercises, HR interviews, "Can you give me an example of blah, blah, blah.....all hoops in one way or another that need to be jumped through if that's what the employer requires.

For those interested in Jet2 I wouldn't get too tied up by the requirement for Yorkshireness, much expansion further north over Hadrians Wall ongoing as well as throughout the network of Man, Ncl and Ema if rumours are to be believed.

sps1013 7th August 2011 20:50

Back on topic guys please...

With the new application system the old applications are still there just a format change.

Does anybody know how you remove your old CV in that section. I have attached a new one after amending some other details but there is no removal function.

Answers please if anybody has them.

Thanks.

jpboy 8th August 2011 14:07

Take home just under £3000ish in summer.

Time to command probably faster than any other comparable airline in the UK and depends on experience. 3 yrs is a decent bet perhaps increasing to within 5yrs as a guess if the turnover slows down post this batch of recruitment. Occasionally quicker if right time, right place with required experience and performance. Command selection based on meritocracy not seniority is the policy at the moment.

alfaaloop 8th August 2011 14:32

Has anyone on the inside heard of any likelihood of cadet recruitment this year?

falconeasydriver 8th August 2011 18:40

As much as it pains me to say it, here on PPrune, but some of you here need to wake up and smell the bovril.
Ex mil guys are a fact of life, they are NO different anyone else, they have merely come through a different system with a different set of requirements, most are good sorts, but as ever there is the odd individual with very little between their ears who have slipped through the cracks.
VS has been through the ex squadron mate zone, as have TAG, the fact is, we are ALL professionals.
Get over it for fecks sake:ugh:

Application Problems

I applied last week but did not receive a confirmation email and phoned the HR Department. Apparently if you don't receive an email confirming your application your details may not have been received. Best to touch base with them directly to ensure your application is on file. Spoke to a Casey Prince and he was happy to correct the problem. [email protected] Seems odd that their systems would be so unreliable but here's hoping I get the call!

NukeHunt 19th August 2011 23:44

I updated last years application, yet it doesn't give any kind of response to say that it has updated the info successfully. Think I'll have to email them to check.

I don't think the IT technical problem is actually with Jet2 themselves, but they use that awfully unreliable Bond recruitment system that doesn't even let you choose a password you can remember - just gives you a random bunch of letters and numbers !!.

I wonder how many people have missed out on jobs due to that poor website. if they can't even get it to let you choose your own password, doesn't say much for the rest of the IT behind it !!.

jpboy 20th August 2011 08:41

NukeHunt,

Nail firmly banged on the head re the Bond system. I believe HR are sticking with it in an attempt to not lose the details of those who have registered.

My understanding is that they are sorting out all those who are currently employed on 70% contracts etc to establish the final manning plot with a view to then start telephone interviewing mid/late Aug. Some low hrs candidates might get a call sooner due lead in times for their potential course start dates but no firm dates decided yet so don't panic if the phone doesn't ring tomorrow!

Casey is the man holding it all together, he is the point of contact.

Good luck

PPRuNeUser248605 20th August 2011 09:12

Have you all completed a JOC?

757 fleet

Hi all, I'm looking for infos about roster, bases, upgrade to cpt position and any other useful info before apply.
I read about a phone interview after you apply, is that correct?

McBruce 21st August 2011 13:36

Whats the current command outlook at Jet2 on both fleets?

GADriver 22nd August 2011 09:03

waveydavey 23rd August 2011 21:52

has anyone that has applied in recent weeks had any reply yet?

Foniac 24th August 2011 12:04

Is anyone able to submit the low hours application and get a confirmation email? It just will not send... tried it on 3 emails now. On clicking the print application as well half the information that it says is entered (green tick) is missing!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Shrimps 24th August 2011 13:34

I've managed to; though it was partially complete from previous applications.

Foniac 24th August 2011 14:00

An email to recruitment got it sorted. I just hope they have the correct application now after me attempting three or four times! :D

Any ex-RYR pilots jump ship to Jet2? I would be intrested to hear how they would compare the two.

Homer_J 25th August 2011 18:51

Does anyone know if they would accept Dash 8 Q400 time for there direct entry command? The wording is heavy turboprop so I wasn't sure.

HR/IT contact

Hi Folks,

Has anyone else had issues contacting HR or Bond regarding the online application system iusses. It will not allow me to update details or create a new login on the system, so I have emailed both the Recruitment email and also the guy Casey Prince who's email was kindly passed on by an earlier poster on this thread, but neither have sent me a reply. Obviously they are going to be very busy with the recruitment drive that is currently happening, but I was wondering if anyone else is slow in getting a response?
Does anyone have a direct phone number for the HR dept? All i can find on the website is the email address.

cheers,

Burger81

Check your PMs :)

waveydavey 26th August 2011 16:13

I'm in the same boat - cant update my details and not sure my application went through ok. It's a bit worrying as i'd hate to miss out due to a website problem!

Foniac 26th August 2011 16:20

I'll let you know what Casey Prince said to me. It makes it easier than them getting 100 emails with the same problem (although maybe they'll realise they need a better recruitment system).

They basically said if you haven't received a confirmation email to create a new email account, and make another application until you get a confirmation email. How many attempts it will take is anyones guess.

After about four attempts I gave up, emailed them and had them track my application :)

Dan 98 27th August 2011 07:31

Seems amazing after all the same problems that were experienced last year, nothing seems to have been improved!!

You can't help but find the wording amusing as well

" Please express your interest for summer season 2012"

Like it is a summer job picking fruit..............

:ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh:

EK4457 27th August 2011 07:54

Internet problems aside, has anybody been called for interview yet?

If so, can I ask the predictable questions about which scheme you applied for, your flying experience, age etc etc.

I'm hearing rumours that some people have been called forward but suprisingly nothing on here....

Couldn't agree more.

LoopGuru 27th August 2011 15:56

Hi all,

I realise the online application has been discussed to death, but I've been updating my application over the last few months without any issues, although I don't receive an email confirmation after an update.

Today however, when I log in to update it, I get a message saying there has been a technical issue, with a button for me to click on confirming deletion of my application!

It may be a temporary problem so just wondering if anyone else has received this message too?

Many thanks

binsleepen 28th August 2011 22:59

Jet2 advertising here B757 & B737 Captains & First Officers on flight global.

It also contains a phone number for the recruitment team for those having application issues.

Good luck to all those applying
