Sallymo,

Unfortunately i have to say a large portion of whats being said in this thread is true.

However as always with any thread on Pprune the majority of people posting have an axe to grind.

Things have to change thats for sure but have a look around at other company's. There are several others were pilots had to fight to improve their T's and C's. For example Easyjet. Why shouldn't that be the same with Monarch. If everybody sticks together we might be able to get something useful out of our current pay negotiations and improve our T's and C's.

And one thing to remember. If you are looking for the perfect company than you will be searching for the rest of your life. It's very easy to vote with your feet but it takes balls to stand up to the company and try to improve the T's and C's

Sallymo 24th May 2007 18:48

Dear F T , I agree with you .
I always had an eye on Monarch however never applied.
What suprises me is that management did not learn anything from an "Easy" lesson.
I hope you'll get what you are fighting for

All the best

Flying Torquewrench 24th May 2007 19:11

Sallymo,

The management never learnt from an 'Easy' lesson because there was no need to.

Up to this year we had a weak company council that settled fairly easy with the company. However this year it all changed and it seems that we have a much more ambitious company council. So hopefully they will learn their 'Easy' lesson this year.

All the best,

FT

IcePack 24th May 2007 21:02

Funny word MILITANT. I'm sure they are just fighting for the going rate and what is fair. No I would'nt use that word.

Flying Torquewrench 24th May 2007 22:06

IcePack,

You are totally right. :ok:

Couldn't come up with a better word when i was writing the post. :ugh: However it has been changed to ambitious. How does that sound?

They are indeed fighting for the going rate and they got my full support.

Whoops

"emotions will be running on overdrive during a strike" - I totally agree.

But how sad it has become that some union members (not all) feel it is their given right to stand on a picket line heckling and abusing non members, non members which they mostly likely have been down route with, shared a beer with, had a laugh and joke with, and are all matey on the flightdeck with.

"the actions of others are never forgotten." - It works both ways!!

gazumped 26th May 2007 01:41

As an interested observer, I was wondering what the result of the union ballot for industrial action was?

How has the company responded to the threat of industrial action?

What type of industrial action has been talked about?

What duration do you expect the action to be taken over, and how effective do you expect it to be?

As some background information, I work for a southern hemisphere airline, and we appear to be approaching a similar situation with our management, so iwould be interrested in replies.

Cheers

hapzim 26th May 2007 11:25

Now that would be spoon feeding management with the answers to their prayers.

Gazumped if you contact BALPA UK headquarters then I'm sure when your credentials have been check they would be in a position to shed some light on the matter but until then the plans and actions remain in house.:ok:

nilcostoptionmyass 26th May 2007 16:52

Monarch

EXPECTS MORE

PAYS LESS

unwiseowl 26th May 2007 19:23

Has anyone seen the sticker on the back of Richard's car? I don't think he has, yet.

Monarch Man 26th May 2007 19:27

gazumped,

Don't worry, Im sure the guys and girls at VB will learn from our experience:8

ZeBedie 31st May 2007 18:30

Indicative ballot result:

1) Do you accept the Company’s pay offer?
Result: YES – 0.0%, ABSTAIN – 0.0%, NO – 100.0%

2) Would you take part in action including a strike?
Result: YES – 86.5%, ABSTAIN – 2.5%, NO – 11.0%

3) Would you take part in action falling short of strike?
Result: YES – 90.0%, ABSTAIN – 6.6%, NO – 3.4%

Response rate was 94.1% of papers returned

nilcostoptionmyass 31st May 2007 19:26

Amazing that those people who didn't return their ballot paper are voting for a pay cut ?????

ZeBedie 31st May 2007 19:39

Yes, but how many didn't get their paper because they've moved and not given BALPA their latest address? 94% must be as good as it gets.

Longchop 1st June 2007 16:42

congrats guys....all sounds positive!

:D:D

I wish i worked for a workforce that stuck together like that!:{

Scarebus321 1st June 2007 18:18

What I find strange is that although 100% voted no to the pay offer, 10% are effectively not willing to take any action... What exactly do they want to do?? Get the CC to ask nicely for a higher offer??

Monarch Man 1st June 2007 19:53

The 10% represent the part of the workforce that I got slated for pointing out a wee while ago.
We all know who they are, "I'm alright Jack" or "you signed the contract sonny, so its your problem not mine"
Most of them, and i do mean most of them are 50+, been in the company 15 years or more, and are fundamentally opposed to doing anything other than looking after No 1.

...and you know that for a fact do you Monarch Man?

Monarch Man 2nd June 2007 11:26

Of course not!

But I can make an educated guess, based on my experience of chatting to a few in various crewrooms :)

MON321 2nd June 2007 12:37

The unity demonstrated by the ballot is fantastic, let's not detract from that. The Industrial action question is a difficult one and very personal one but 86.5% of a rumored near 90% membership is more than we need.

nilcostoptionmyass 2nd June 2007 15:31

Fancy being in charge of a company and getting the staff so pi**ed off that they are nearly on strike ? This has been building for a number of years.

Millions of plot changes, swapping from earlies to nights, taxis in the middle of the night across the whole country etc etc etc

CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP

And how do they reward their staff ?

share options ? ------ no
A months salary------ no

if it's been a 'good' year, a £25 M and S voucher............

It has been a good year this year........ but pay rise, no :mad:

Whoops 4th June 2007 06:42

The company are now resorting to overriding the crewing computer to issue illegal roster changes. In the case in point a Captain was given a last minute plot change that was 55 minutes into discretion before he even left home!

Things are going from very bad to worse. No wonder Monarch are having to resort to advertising for new F/O’s while all the current ones are sending out C.V.’s by the shed load.

Monarch Man 4th June 2007 18:25

Keep it together guys, with unity you have power! besides TJ will find it a tough sell to the board when there aren't any crew to operate flights:E
RS might struggle as well I reckon.

Easy Ryder 5th June 2007 08:41

OK slightly off topic here.....

Was mentioned yday on the BALPA forum that interviews will begin next month for new F/Os. It also mentioned that the advertising in Flt Intl and early interviews are to get numbers for our 'new base'........

Any idea where this new base is gonna be? EDI?

Flying Torquewrench 5th June 2007 08:49

Easy ryder,

I have been thinking about that one also. Where are we going to open a new base? I would suspect its going to be EDI, but you never know.

Interviews start soon but according to the ad in FI the courses start early next year.

Ft.

ZeBedie 7th June 2007 10:28

It looks like the ballot papers for a strike (as opposed to the earlier indicative ballot) will be going out soon.

Scarebus321 7th June 2007 11:01

The CC have done an outstanding job on this - sadly it has come to this. Our present management team have insulted us with derisory pay offer and have only "managed" to unite their entire pilot work force against them...

Monarch IS a great airline. WE intend to make sure it stays great.

"Vote NO to Ryanarch" - I love it

Monarch T & C's

Hello,

I've noticed recently that they are asking for applications from possible F/O's. I am currently airbus type-rated and been flying for a low cost carrier for over a year. I've read through the monarch terms and conditions thread.....which has gone a long way at putting me off I have to say! Is it/can it REALLY be that bad!

Any advice would be great! I've gone from definitely applying to running away fast! All within the space of an hour!

Thanks in anticipation!

Sphinx 12th June 2007 15:29

The reason they are advertising for F/O's is because a lot are leaving for Easy, BA, Virgin and Aer Lingus amongst others. The reasons they are leaving are mainly pay, pension, lifestyle issues and roster disruption.
If you work for Easy you would most likely take a significant pay cut by moving to Monarch and your pension won't improve. If you do work for Easy I'll swap you jobs!

Scarebus321 12th June 2007 16:07

Couldn't agree more with Sphinx. Monarch is being brought to its knees by a management hell bent on cutting costs and increasing their own profit related pay... The result? Cabin crew, Engineers and pilots all considering industrial action... The Balpa ballot papers are being printed as I write....

Whoops 12th June 2007 16:58

A message to TJ and RS

Yes we know you read PPRuNe.

Thank you for your letter with its inconstancies and veiled threats.

You have misjudged us and handled things badly from the start and this is just the icing on the cake. I look forward to receiving my ballot paper and voting for strike action.

qwertyuiop 12th June 2007 17:13

I have to agree whoops. The letter has made me realise we REALLY do need to stand upto this.

Monarch Man 12th June 2007 18:21

A reply to the MD

Dear TJ, thank you for your work of fiction err letter emailed to me today. Please forgive my belated response, however, my email programme knowingly re-directed it into my anti-spam filter.

Please take this reply on PPrune as my response to your impressive work of fiction.
Tim, I hope you haven't started to believe your own bull!!!!!, next you'll be telling us you can turn water into wine:hmm:

easytiger 12th June 2007 18:54

I am 110% behind the CC. BUT whoever put this on the web is a step to far. What is written remains between employer/employee and until it goes to IA should remain so. I would urge whoever posted it...to remove it, until such time that we move a step closer. This has to be a calculated dispute and "direct" antagonistic views will not help the cause.

ZeBedie 12th June 2007 18:57

I agree with tiger. Best it's deleted.

longarm 12th June 2007 19:00

ditto the above. Not the time or place- yet!

Touchin' Down 12th June 2007 19:01

Mon757chick,

Congratulations on your first post (or first 3 actually). I don't think it's wise reproducing this in full on this thread. There is a private Monarch forum on here or the company council website (it's already on there too). All sorts read these open forums most likely media included. Lets keep the full details inhouse and play fair game.

Monarch Man 12th June 2007 19:04

I can only echo the sentiments expressed, probably not the best idea to post Tim's version of reality on here.
Just a quick question to touchin down, "do you think TJ RS and PB are playing a fair game?"

Touchin' Down 12th June 2007 19:10

Not necessarily, but we can rise above that! I'm a new joiner (see post number one of this thread!!) Of course the tone has changed somewhat since then. Kind of just caught up in the middle of all this, and yes I do support the CC. I just don't think it's right for that letter to be reproduced in full on an open forum.
