From the other side of the fence.
Firstly, may I congratulate you all on your steely resolve and more than holding your own in a hard fought battle. After the best part of twenty years with Mon Engineering its great to finally see the management facing some stiff resistance.
Secondly, I wish to make a plea for your assistance in our own battle! As you are all well aware, Enginneerings pay negotiations are not going particularly well (no surprise there). So badly in fact that after the proposed offer of 4.2% accompanied by the loss of our paid lunch breaks (paid in order to ensure flexibility), I now find myself and most Line engineers facing a pay cut in the region of 700-1000 quid a year. Unfortunatly that equates to 700 pounds worth of effort that I will no longer be making. When One 0'clock rolls round I will be on my unpaid lunch break reguardless of how many broken aircraft are scattered across the ramp. For this reason I am requesting that you guys and girls please do not take our lack of co-operation personally and offer you support in any way you can. Many thanks. |
Thats fine chuzwuza. I would rather you take your time and make sure the job is done properly and that you are suitably refreshed so that you can concentrate on the engineering job. Last thing I want is an aircraft with problems in the air. Pretty certain all the crews (and the paying public) will support your cause.
|
Enjoy your lunch break Chuzwuza. Im sure all Pilots will understand your grievance. Its a shame the Cabin Crew didn't feel up for a fight.
|
Take your time on your lunchbreak.
On another note, i have yet to meet any cabin crew who actually said yes to their pay cut ? |
Chuzwuza, a few of us have worked out the financial cost to our pockets of this generous payoffer and came up with a figure of approximately £2000/yr. As you rightly say, it is the Line that is hit with the changes in t's and c's, more so than the hangar and office staff. They keep on chipping away................:D
|
Would anyone who is BHX based and happy to answer some questions be kind enough to PM me at some point
Thanks in advance. |
Chuzwuza,
Enjoy your lunchbreak. I am sure that you have full support from us up front.:ok: |
Am hearing that the Pilots and them there Management are talking to ACAS.
Will ACAS look to see if Monarch are paying the going rate or do they just tell them to not talk dirty?:suspect: |
The new offer with ACAS help is on the table. Need time to digest it, but initial impressions are it looks like sense is starting to prevail. Well done CC and Management.
|
Just had a quick peek, just shows what can be achieved with a bit of pressure. Well done everyone concerned.:ok:
|
Congratulations guys and gals!:ok:
Too bad that we have too many colleagues in the world of orange who have no fighting spirit at all! :* |
Obviousley 'negotiations' have gone well for the flight deck, now starts round two with the engineers........:ugh:
|
This has been an interesting thread. Is there anymore news to update it yet
|
The latest pilot pay offer went out to ballot yesterday, with a strong recommendation from the CC. Closing date is two weeks time, 31 Aug.
|
Pilot's pay offer has now been voted in but with a significant number of abstentions and no votes.
|
A little disingenuous, Alloy.
The actual number of papers returned was bloody high. Most of the time you can expect about a 55% return on pay ballots the latest one was significantly higher than that. The offer was accepted by an OVERWHELMING majority. |
Point taken Marko!
|
Too many guys voted yes , claiming that it was just ' dragging on too long '. :ugh: Numbers of papers returned may well have been higher than the average but were considerably less than those returned for our previous ballots, suggesting an unhealthy outbreak of apathy.
Not handled at all well by big Balpa, with two strike ballots interrupted by recommended offers before a true reflection of feeling was known. They were unsure if the first ballot was legal, as they met with management when it was still out to members and recommended an offer ! What are we paying BALPA subs for when they don't seem to know what they're doing ? There's no greater bargaining tool than an overwhelming vote to strike. A true reflection was never gained as a result. How dreadfully shabby. The popping of champagne corks must have been deafening at Prospect House when the result was known. The problems of roster disruption, wrong numbers at bases and some guys being flogged to death while others do considerably less flying still remains, and will NOT change. A missed opportunity. |
Jetrider, just imagine how you would feel if you were on the FBW fleet!
|
Why ?
I'd give anthing to go to Malaga instead of night Rhodes, night Heraklion, Night Zakinthos (2335z !!!), night Kos, night Bodrum, night Corfu etc. Our day flights are nearly all Greek, Turkish or Egypt and very long. Most of us at a certain base are pretty much on max hours all the time with massive roster disruption due to sickness and FTL problems. And you think the FBW is hard work ? |
Jetrider - nicely put. As someone on the FBW at MAN I feel the whole episode to be a shambles. I fail to see how we can call the present deal a success - It's a country mile from what we origionally wanted. We had the strength to push it through - sadly the CC were war weary and lacking back bone... champagne and huge bonuses all round at no prospect house...
|
I note with interest that the views aired re the pay negotiations do not appear to be repeated on the BALPA site.
In my view we have obtained a significant RPI+ pay deal with 25% more days off within 2 years and some other lifestyle concessions thrown in. Yes there is still room to improve, particularly for those on the 'new' contract. However, in my view, the CC have done an excellent job and aided by the highest ever levels of BALPA membership have secured a pretty decent pay offer...obviously 76% of those willing to vote at least partly agree with me. As for the CC lacking backbone, I couldn't disagree more! |
What are we paying BALPA subs for when they don't seem to know what they're doing ? |
The CC have done a cracking job. Those who are sniping at them might like to tell me when any Monarch CC, in the 40 year history of the company has done a better job?
|
Incredible and crass ignorance being shown by jetrider 757, westie & scarebus321.
I would suggest that if you feel so strongly that BALPA have let you down then you should resign from BALPA and in your letter of resignation state your reasons for doing so. |
Well done the CC for securing what you secured..:ok:
On the same note, it is precisely why I left MON.......not because of the deal the guys/girls deserve..but because no matter how good it was going to be, it would never be enough for me personally, to cover the roster disruption, the crappy report times, and the direction the company is heading to make me want to stay. A generally fantastic bunch of crew and trainers across all the fleets, and you could do far worse in getting 2 or 3 thousand hours on jets before looking at the job market. |
Jetrider, I thought we did night Heraklions and various other destinations, I know I have. Thought you guys went really quite over winter months, but that's just what I have heard on the grape vine so maybe Im wrong and the 757 guys do in fact work harder than the FBW. On the other posts I can't understand why I have never seen such thoughts on such a dreadfull pay agreement eever feature on the cc web pages!
Well done to CC for a great job, just the fleet disparities to sort, or maybe there aren't if the above is correct :) |
Jetrider757 Et Al
Please repeat your comments on the BALPA site or post your base and initials so that any CC members who are reading this have the opportunity to reply to your fearless attack on their hard work and fortitude. And before the indignation starts yes you are perfectly entitled to your opinion but only if you have the b@lls to put you name to it. |
Anybody care to elaborate on the new deal?
|

Heres a thought, if you are truly this disgruntled and unhappy in your job - leave! |
The deal is 5.1% back-dated to April. A further .5% in November. RPI plus 1.5% next April. Days off go from 8 in 28 to 10 in 28, with no changes in definition of a day off. Company contributions to DC pension will increase by 50%. Improvements to rostering and a few other bits.
Anyone who does not believe that this is a very good deal is not a reasonable or realistic person, in my opinion. |
ZeBedie,
I don't share your views of this being a very good deal (it's not bad but could be better). And you can call me not reasonable or realistic as you like. This deal is miles away from the original pay claim made at the beginning. However, i do think the CC has done the best they can. Without going through with a strike, i think this is the best we could get out of the company. Hopefully BALPA membership numbers stay as they are at the moment. Which would enable us to improve out T's and C's in the next round of negotiations. And my views of this pay deal are posted on the BALPA website. Cheerio. |
"I'd give anthing to go to Malaga instead of night Rhodes, night Heraklion, Night Zakinthos (2335z !!!), night Kos, night Bodrum, night Corfu etc"
Jetrider, I wouldn't accuse any pilot in another fleet of not working hard but do you know of any 757 or A300 pilots who have asked to join the FBW fleet recently, (except for those who were senior enough to jump immediately onto the A330 beach fleet)? I know of plenty of FBW pilots who would swap fleets at the drop of a hat. If you do wish to join us on the FBW you'd be most welcome. Warning! When you go into DS's office to request the transfer keep your hands behind your back so you don't get your arms bitten off. |
Earnest,
I know of a number of guys who got promoted onto the FBW fleet. All of them are happy partly because of the reduction in long night flights. A few even seem to like the aircraft. Life on the FBW fleet is not as bad as you make out!!! |
Horses for courses....now stop bickering!! We're so called professionals!! :ugh: ;)
|
so RS is stepping down, jumped/pushed as a result of this summers discontent????
|
could someone in the know update PPJN with the info from the latest pay deal. Trying to decide about the current recruitment drive.
Thanks |
Qwertyuiop
Like I said, I'm not one for claiming my colleagues on other fleets have an easier life, or that life on the MAN FBW fleet is wrist-slittingly bad. I was simply pointing out that no one I know of has volunteered to join the short-haul-only FBW fleet and those that have done so have been press-ganged on “juniority” and not seniority. I am also aware that most who convert to the Airbus soon realise that it is not the techno-spawn of the Devil. I still know many FBW pilots who would swap fleets at the drop of a hat. There are still no signs of queues outside DS’s door requesting a transfer to the MAN FBW fleet in order to get out of their summers of numerous night flights. Taiguin. I agree with your horses for courses comment but we are hardly bickering, just indulging in a civilised discussion laced with a bit of between the lines banter. Hardly unprofessional, but as I note your profile has your occupation marked as “student”, perhaps you could tell us what profession you are in, or aspire to, as a comparison. (Only kidding. Dash 8 Flybe, right? Go on and update your profile, you’ve earned it). Qwertyuiop, for the record, I think you have the best nom-de-plume on Pprune. A swish of your finger and you are straight into your message. When I joined Pprune I had intended to copy you with something like Poiuytrewq, but my left hand couldn’t cope so chose something much duller. |
