I have to agree there is no chance of a 195 direct entry. Reasons... Well for one the queue of flybe guys is a mile long as is. Not enough of them for current crew let alone newbies. Sorry!
|
They'll be needing guys for the Embraer all right- but the 145!
Either that or send a bunch of 'em back, judging by the rate at which 145 folk are leaving. |
Just remember guys; If they cant get/attract enough people, or find it too expensive (most likely) to type rate 2 guys instead of 1 to fill a (1) seat, for the right seat on the Q400 and 145, they will start offering people "direct entry" on the 195s... Simple mathematics...and its gonna be really difficult for current employees/BALPA to do anything about it. :yuk:
Money talks, ********....:ugh: Good luck to all of you! /CP |
Particularly as over 200 Bacon guys are trying to get into Easyjet.
|
Have also heard murmerings that many local BACON pilots up here in EDI have approached EZY, but are only interested if they can have the base of their choice and unfortunately thats not how it works at EZY unless you are a direct entry TRE on type!
|
And so it goes on, pilots cutting each others throats, always interested first in me me me. And yet, every so often, when you unite and mean it, management roll over. I'm not even talking about being united across the industry, good as that would be, just united within one employer. You all seem to walk around with the drawbridge drawn up behind you. And you could be such a powerful group if you worked together. it really is bizarre that such a highly trained intelligent group keep p@ssing away thier power.

Contracts
Does anyone know if they would consider someone for a 6 month contract while they get more of the jungle jets and train people up?
Already type endorsed with time on type, E.U. passport, but no JAR yet. Just curious.... Thanks.:ok: |
Hirsutesme,
Unfortunately according to psychologists this a very common trait amongst Pilots. It is also the very reason why that so many of us are very good at what we do professionally. |
Flybe t&c's
I am looking at moving on from my current position and I am interested in flybe. Can anyone shed any light on lifestyle, t&c’s, roster stability and if there are any night stops?
I have done a search and haven’t found much. Cheers |
good luck.
ex ba connect, becoming flybe in about 2 weeks, and even we don't know! |
Typical roster 5+2 but with the odd 6+3 or 4+1 thrown in to change the days off.
For t+c, the stuff on ppjn.com is fairly accurate. Roster stability isn't great. The rostering department are good (on the DH8 fleet anyway), with rosters published a calender month at a time, and normally issued around the 10th of the previous month. The problem is Crewing, who keep making changes on a far too regular basis. Don't think any of the bases have night stops rostered, but as I mentioned, Crewing are the problem. |
Cloud chaser, thanks mate.
Do you know if the crews are happy? is the morale goood? And good luck to the dude! |
heard start salary now reduced to 23k from 26k and square bonded (ie: non reducing over 3 years) to tune of 13.5k. If accepted you will not know basing till after line check.
|
>>you will not know basing till after line check.<<
Are you sure about this? I am mooting an application to Flybe. However, this policy would cripple us if we didn't get our home base. Could you explain the policy a bit further? Many thanks, S. |
You will need to make it clear how important your requested base is!
I think they are becoming a little more human and realistic about these things now. Otherwise people just leave to work for someone else nearer their home base. Best of... |
One of those who used to be responsible for basing took an ill-disguised pleasure in messing people around. Same person was also fond of pointing out that boyfriends/girlfriends were an unwanted burden and that partners would soon be gone after you'd joined the company. Once I realised that FlyBE saw pilots as a low-value commodity my loyalty caption extinguished.
|
There is a lot more flexibility within the basing of new FOs than there used to be, and this will only improve as the fleet continues to expand. However, I would caution you to be realistic with your choices, as SOU and Brum in particular are a popular choice (God only knows why :} ), with some of the more remote outposts like Norwich or Belfast easier to get into.
Plan on being at a different base from your preferred choice for at least your first 6 months. Once the first round of bids are done, you may very well get what you wanted. There are a very significant number of people on the move at the moment, and if the BACON deal goes ahead, things will accelerate in that respect. |
Dash 8 300 rated F/o, Flybe interested?
Am after some advice here chaps, I'm Dash 8 300 rated and current. With all this turmoil surrounding Flybe and BACON is there a real need for crews at Flybe? I heard that there were Acft on the ground without Crews? Would Flybe consider taking me on?
I hear there are problems with the Roster etc but I really need the money... (Now you all know how desperate I am!) Any advice would be greatly appreciated (Not too much abuse please?):( Bok..:ok: |
Your best bet is to apply & see. There's a lot of uncertainty over the 'merger'; many pilots are leaving from both sides, but there's bound to be some consolidation of routes as well so they probably need some to leave anyway.
My guess is they'll need quite a few pilots once the dust has settled. But if you can get a sensible answer as to what's going on, do tell the rest of us. |
I am an engineer at Flybe.Con.
I can confirm that the Dashes are still flying. A lot of pilots from all fleets are trying to leave the company, many have gone. if you got taken on flying the Dash I'm sure that you would end up on q400 or a jet within 12mths, looks like there will be a massive crew shortage. |
Although you would almost certainly be required to complete the full course, technically you are rated on the Q400 if you have have the -300 rating. It's a very different ship, though. The advantage to you is that, as a rated applicant, the bond is far smaller and for a shorter period.
The requirement for crews continues, especially if you are suitable for an early command. The only avenue through which to apply is the online form at flybe.com . Good luck. |
I am sure you will be welcomed with open arms (and a square bond). Because there aren't many Bacon pilots left with the mass resignations presently being experienced.
|
Thanks for the Info and advice so far. One Question I'd really like to clarify is to the 'conversion course' I've heard both sides now from varying sources. One side says full course and the other a two day conversion?
Anyone know the true to life story? Anyone done the 300-400 leap? (When current on the 300) |
My understanding is that it is a two day conversion if you are current on the -300.

Q400 conversion
(Thanks for the Info and advice so far. One Question I'd really like to clarify is to the 'conversion course' I've heard both sides now from varying sources. One side says full course and the other a two day conversion?
Anyone know the true to life story? Anyone done the 300-400 leap? (When current on the 300) ) Hi, I was current on the Q200/300 and did the conversion course to the Q400. I now fly the A321 but as I remember it was about 5 days which consisted of 2 days computer based ground school (in Stockholm for me ) and 3 days / sessions in the sim.....It was all very gentlemanly and straight forwards, I think you will enjoy it. Q400 is quite different but a nice modern plane to fly if a little un-reliable. You will probably get to practice your abnormal/emergency situations though so you will learn quite a lot. Let me know if I can be of any more help. |
Pistnbrokepete,
Thanks for that.. Sounds more like it. Somewhere in between, full course seemed a little over kill and two days a little too gentle! As for the 400 and Abnormal/Emergency Sits, the -300 isn't much better (The ones I've come across).. Should be a home from home! Best go and get the info from the horses mouth now and see how much it'll cost me and how much more I'll get paid etc!! Will pass on any Info I get.. Keep the Info coming though. Any info on the Crewing needs of Flybe would be great Bok.. |
SpringbokDreamer,
according to my last call to FlyBe HR, recruitment is largely focused on Capt and fast track command F/O, next interviews to be held next week. Pure F/O recruitment will restart as soon as current capt shortage is addressed. |
I heard there are plenty of Flybe Q400 awaiting delivery from Canada sitting grounded due lack of pilots - Captains certainly seems to be the issue. Can't think why. :\

Flight wrapped in a Flybe ad...
Are Flybe short of pilots or something?
and 54k for an experienced FO? Just how experienced exactly??? :E |
And if you go to the flybe front homepage they have two advertisements there too. And on pprune.
|
That is the most prominent and desperate ad I've ever seen if Flight. They are not going to be able to fly their fleet and it can only be good for all of us. If they were really paying what they say in the ad then I might be interested but it is all smoke and mirrors, the quoted pay is only for top increment after several years in the company.
Jokers! |
Yes.............desperate is the word..........also downright devious.
You dont get to the £90K package until about year 17 on the the 195. So the company is blatantly advertising reward for a position which only exists by long service. A con pure and simple So if any one is stupid enough to fall for these conmen then heaven knows what tricks theyll be up to once you are ensnared. Plenty of research material available here. You should ask yourself why everyone in BA Connect who can is getting out. Dont touch with a barge pole! We know one or two of their managers rather too well!! |
:hmm:
This, copied from their website. It rings a bell with something along the lines of: 'Move to Nigeria where your dollar goes further'!? Any company which thinks that this sort of an advertisement is going to catch anyone other than, with respect here to the former, newbies or idiots, must have a prodigious sense of humour. This is risible to no small degree. 'Regional basing mean that you can live where you want and not suffer a long commute; or be forced to live in the expensive southeast so the real value of these salaries is greater. Pilots are based at one of (currently) 9 regional locations. We aim to put you in the base of your choice so that you suffer the least upheaval to your and your family’s lives.' Now, having completely blown the jolly old cover, who is for champagne and oysters at the Norwich Hilton tomorrow morning?:p Please do not forget, one and all, that these two delectable gustatory consumables are soho much cheaper in Norfolk, so fill yer boots! |
Reference to family life in the advertisment is particularly nasty and cynical.
Said company are notorious for roster instability and recent attempts to introduce some modicum of control have been met with near hysteria by Jim French who believes that a scheduling agreement is the work of Satan himself. So, no restrictions on how many sectors you can fly and your day can be extended four hours without notice. How is that compatible with picking the kids up from school?......... and youll be too knackered to do anything but sleep when you finish.. If the goon responsible for this desperate drive to attract what Ba Connect pilots rejected en mass is who I think he is then time Jim gave him the order of the boot. We saw through him the minute he arrived. He talks the talk.........but that's all. |
So has anyone reported the advertisement to the Advertising Standards Authority - honest, legal, decent?
|
I have to say that having deliberately kept out of all the mud slinging about the BA Connect take over this advertising campaign is deeply offensive.
As a pilot who works for Ba Connect and would like to see this work despite the promise of less pay, harder work and massive disruption the statements made are at best misleading and at worst deceptive. The pay and conditions headlined are not available to joiners. Had FLYBE made even the slightest attempt to encourage us to stay then they would not be facing the massive shortage of pilots that this campaign is supposed to address. Instead of that we have been patronised and lectured to and told how lucky we are that FLYBE came along so we'd better shut up and take whatever......... I am now going to join the queue for the exit as this is the last straw. |
:hmm:
:{ So does that mean that one will not be able to join the company as a TRE on £90k a year, get home every night and have at least one weekend a month completely free?:D |
If anyone is looking for objective opinions on Flybe, PPrune is the last place to look just at the moment. There are far too many people (most of whom do not work and have never have worked for the company) who have axes to grind. Is there anybody out there who works for the perfect company? If so please let us all know so that we can submit our applications.
In the mean time ppjn is worth a look for payscales. sr |
a little t-prop birdie told me that they are crew critical now and offering crew 4k for every recommended captain they can get through the door and signed off.
Reap what you sew, Mr French. |
