Actually I am one of the more positive people in Emirates. When I joined, a long time ago, you actually had to wait more than two years to get an interview invite. You then had to pay for your own flight. I, amongst many others, actually left a good job to come here. Do I regret it - no. I have done very well out of EK, that's because I joined a very different airline. Times have changed.
It is no exaggeration when it has been reported that interviewee's loose sight of the airfield downwind, crash doing an orbit and all the other horror stories. It may be just a coincidence that EK have these roadshows in all the obscure parts of the world because they are struggling to find pilots to fill courses. They are literally stumbling from month to month. They want pilots from the "3rd world" because they will see a job in EK as "dying and gone to heaven" or winning the lottery each month. They would never have dreamt in a month of Sundays of getting a job like this and will stay until the bitter end.
Most f/o's joining now are extremely disappointed once the rose tinted glasses effect wears off - just hope that it doesn't happen to your wife first and she packs her bags and leaves. It's easy to say "if you dont like it leave". Where are you going to go?
Over recent years, EK have been very lucky and found many pilots out of work and desperate to join. Good for them, more so the pilots with bills to pay.
Just one word of advice. Be very careful and think hard before you give up a good job to come here. Think long term because it's not that easy to move on unless you fancy being a contractor.
I am sick of flying with whinging f/o's that were lied to during the interview.
It is what you make it and nothing more. You will not get a quick command no matter what your hours. If you hang out a bit longer direct entry f/o's on the 380 will not be that far away.

I've got a mate from Easy who hates the LCC life and has been in the interview process at EK. Hypothetically, if he gets hired and is put on the A330 fleet (yes, despite the low QOL on that fleet), how long would he have to wait for a bump to the A340 and then A380 fleets? Are A330 FOs skipping the A340 for the A380s these days?

If the contract is this so poor and they cant fill the seats why is there a 2500 hour requirement??Or when will this be reduced to 1000?

Bokkenrijder - not everybody has the luxury of choice when first entering this industry in terms of their employer. You comments are pretty irrational and possibly insulting!
Hey, I didn't start off with a major straight away, but I had to endure a few years of SleazyJet in order to get where I am today. The difference is that I chose to either improve my situation, or stay with easyJet. I deliberately decided to not apply with companies that treat their employees in a similar manner than most LCC regardless if they fly 777's or 380's and offer a premium product. Don't forget that you are not the customer, you are the employee.

Just watch the video's to which I linked earlier. The similarities (the fatigue, the micro-management, the FCI/NTC fetisism, middle management hiding from real work, the chronic crew shortages) to that big Orange LCC I worked for are remarkable.
Also note the kind of comments (positive vs negative) and the location ("sandpit" "Don'tBai" "Pit" "Dubai" "UAE" "Among camels and dunes") of the people replying.
The videos however require you to have a little bit of patience and an attention span, something not found a lot in today's generation of "must have command on 777 by age 30" pilots. Oh yeah, it also requires reading, not just wishful thinking.

Irrational and insulting? Oh dear! Didn't your mummy warn you about that big evil reality show called "life?"

The only thing irrational is doing the same thing over and over again (joining a similar company you're now trying to run away from, one with rapidly degrading T&C's just because they fly bigger and shinier jets) and expecting a different result.

I appreciate your response, and can understand your frustrations. In my opinion the problems that we all face with regards to changing T&C's, etc are endemic of the industry as a whole. I could sit and list a hundred frustrations that I encounter with my current outfit and from where I'm sitting Emirates looks like a better deal purely based on the fact that although it has it problems, there are benefits to be had whereas the same can not be said for many LCC's in Europe and beyond.

But like you say where do you go to from there? However where would I be in 10 years time if I stay......probably celebration my millionth visit to Malaga in style with a cremated cheese panini!

It's a tough choice and I guess one that is particular to the individual...

You're entitled to your own opinion, but how can you judge others on theirs? My Mother did a great job, but you're right she didn't warn me about life - must be were I've gone wrong.

Funny that the old flight bag should be mentioned. A slight thread drift maybe but I have always wondered what would make a 50 year old professional walk around with a sloppy bag full of ridiculous stickers?

I wouldn't be surprised if captbod is correct in his suspicions. Given two similar candidates in every other aspect I too would look at the general appearance.

Guys, you should know how stupid you look with that old ugly bag!

Just got my contract through today and was as was expected. Just wondering about those who advise against EK, what made you choose to go there and why with the industry "picking up", have you not made the move to pastures more watered?

People slag off loco pilots as not being good enough for major airlines so putting EK in the same umbarella (used lightly) does that mean those unhappy with EK fall into the same sub standard category and are unable to move?

I'm just curious on why people don't talk with their feet and leave as this seems to be the phrase on these forums. I'm coming from Fr and they get slated on these forums but I wont warn anyone off them. It's a way into the industry and from late 2007 it was pretty much the only way into the industry. Rather go there than be snobbish about what airline and type you you fly. I was always told take any job offered as it gets your foot in the door.

Anyway, take everything with a pinch of salt on here and it is all relative to where you come from and what you and indeed your family want. I've got a sim check in 2 weeks for a UK major but my family deteste the thought of moving to London. It's no longer about me me me!

Rant over and I have purposely left spelling and grammatical mistakes in this post to keep everyone happy.

Emirates Heathrow interview next week

Im doin the first stage of the interview in Heathrow next week. They said it includes compass testing, physcometric testing a short interview.

Has anyone else done a selection in Heathrow are the tests the same as Dubai?

Hey Patty, we call those stickers "flair". My company requires at least fifteen when we show up to work. I find it just as ridiculous, if it is not a sticker of a half-naked lady, then it has no business on your flight bag.
