I have to agree with Damianik. If a high houred FO waits and does his/her command + 500 - 1000hrs PIC thats another year at least. If they leave now to EK or another carrier now they will have that year on the seniority list. I just don't see how 500 Pic on 737 will be of any use if your ambition is to go long haul, maybe I'm wrong.

Damianik tell us where would you go if you had 500 hours PIC on the 737?

You have an aviation degree, you are an MCC instructor,you worked for the majors, you come from a family of aviators....please enlighten us.

It's easy to convert the IAA license to a UK one just get hold of the CAA and ask for the transfer forms. The Licenses are all the same you just have to 'register' it here in the UK for Virgin and BA

IAA ATPL holders have got in to VS before. I know one personally.

I never said he needs 500 hours PIC to go anywhere, i just suggested him that since he is almost there, he could just put in his pocket one of the most important token in an aviation career, command time. Sure if you want to join BA doesnt really matter, or if you end up in EK, either (if you can resist 7 years there waiting for ur command) , but if he wants to go play around the world as an FO as he said in a previous tread, i suggest he does with 500 hours PIC he can use during a downturn....
you guys think we saw the last of the downturns? i say not...

just my opinion, nothing more.

PS does BA ask for CAA or accept IAA license?
just curious, i didnt hear anything about it from guys about to join yet.

Folks, before some of you race off to 'enjoy' expat lifestyles do plenty of research and determine the quality of life enjoyed.
Approx two years ago a tranche of Virgin Blue Pilots left for Dubai looking for greener pastures.
All of those Pilots have expressed their displeasure with their present employer and lifestyles. The level of discontent has even extended to former Captains(of VB) expressing desire to return as F/O's.

Act in haste........... repent at leisure!

Virgin Blue bases their pilots in the 4 big cities of one single country and not in some small sh!thole in the middle of nowhere at the far end corner of Europe, pays them a decent salary including a pension and all those things you can only dream of at FR, gives them staff travel tickets say on Delta or Emirates for themselves +family and friends and not nothing at all like FR.....

Virgin Blue and Ryanair,2 completely different things buddy.

As far as non UK pilots working in FR I would guess at least 70%.

Danny please, I'm not your 'Buddy'.
I was merely trying to indicate that whilst you may feel certain carriers within Europe are not 'Worlds best practice', they are not the worst.

The intention of my post was to motivate those wishing to leave to research their alternatives with full understanding of shortfalls.
No-one likes to see colleagues jump from pan into fire.

I have worked throughout Europe and the Pacific and have many friends in the Middle and Far East.

Once you leave Europe and join the Expat roundabout your choices become fewer and limitations greater.

don't forget what flag is on the back of those planes,i think you will find the UK is a foreign country too.

just thought,how about brookies ask for out of base payment for any day off they do.ive heard of a few guys taking days from other guys just to make it worthwhile.

just a thought.

FR

The only thing Ryanair has going for it was the roster 5/4 and for Europeans IF they get their home base its great. This is almost gone.

There will never be a shortage of cadets searching for their first job. Good luck to them.

There will be however a shortage of captains and more experienced F/Os. They will be short this summer !

Hopefully this will be good for everyone thats staying.

I'm off aswell !
