Whilst I agree with the majority of the posts on this subject I am struggling to understand a few things.
Reduction in T and C's??? show me where.
Balpa? good luck.
It's going to be hilarious when the results are anounced and all of the usual suspects (you know who you are) will come on here bemoaning the injustice of how hard you have worked to help the company with such a pittance of a reward. The upcoming results (profit) are irrelevant when you realise how much of a loss we are about to make this winter.
Just because we might post a profit for last year doesn't mean the company is in good health going forward. We will need like never before to keep on the cost saving and building on what we have. The hard times are yet to come.....

The reaction to the text message shamed me - as I overheard from someone in the office in LBA say - who can hold their hand up and say they rang their line manager to enquire into the validity of this message as opposed to just throwing their toys out of the pram and passing it on.

There was a text message sent out to most Pilot's, the original source is unknown. It went something on the lines of 737 Pilot's having to take 10 weeks un-paid leave over Winter but 80% of your salary over the year, or the offer of a 50% roster, again through Winter.
Either way, I have to credit management here, as they were quick to act and quash such rumours. It appears that there will be some kind of announcement after the Base Captains meeting on the 18th Aug. It was also said, from management, that there will NOT be any redundancies and any options on the table will be voluntary, not mandatory!
So if Opt Out is our leader, welcome!
You will read lots of stupid comments and suggestions here, but rest assured, we all (well most) want this business to be a success. If we could engage in constructive dialogue as adults we wouldn't need the anonymity this site offers. Please consider your options. Fighting BALPA will of course not only jeopardise the sanity of those at the top, but the business itself. There is a plethora of talent within the Pilot ranks, which should be tapped in to. Use the experience of your workforce and BALPA to grow the business, not drive it into the ground!
Terms and Conditions have degenerated for most airlines in one shape or form. Only 12 months ago crews were able to request 2 weeks holiday during Summer along with 3 RDO's. That has gone, that is a reduction in our terms and conditions. No payrise in light of record profits, that is a reduction in pay and conditions. Uniform policy, that is a reduction in terms and conditions. Fuel policy, that is a reduction in conditions. Summer commands, that will be a reduction in terms and conditions. GDF, that was and is CR*P! Need I go on?

We do work hard, and in most cases go above and beyond our remit. All we ask is to be listend to, not dictated to. Lets just see what the 18th brings we may all be very surprised. Does anyone know if the winter schedule has been released yet to crewing ?? Given the potential demise of another 737 operator in the coming months given their losses, the job market will be flooded with drivers. However this does mean there may be some cheap airframes available. I bet PM is planning for the upturn in the economy as it has to come, we all have jobs inthis company that are as stable as you can get in an unstable industry. Look at what else is happening at some of the larger carriers:- I believe Virgin is now only paying TRI/TRE when they perform their duties,BA redundancies,BMI BABY very shaky future,Ryanair grounding aircraft and 2010 profit warning. I think the only thing people are complaining about are the rumours and all will become clearer on the 18th. However if management are reading this thread it will require clear communication as the text message that was sent round created a lot of mistrust hopefully unfounded mistrust.

The Text Message. It could only serve to send people towards BALPA. Just wondering who sent it? (Most definately not accusing BALPA, but clearly someone has an agenda)

The above statement does not make sense to me. Any ballot is to be among the pilots of Jet2, not on a base by base basis, indeed, the overseeing body, probably electoral reform society or such, will not distinguish between bases. The body that is ASKING for the vote is is BALPA and you, the members, are it.
AHF has it right in his post of 27th as have several others stating that the company has nothing to fear. All workers in whatever industry want their company to prosper and employee input is to be welcomed. Those who wish to remain aloof from BALPA simply lose their voice.

Just a question, and it is not about any particular company. Equally it may not be aplicable under EU law.
What is the difference between what the Americans call 'furloughed', i.e. being off the roster on no pay due to no work but seniority protected, and enforced unpaid leave?

'furloughed' well that means you get to run about in the big field and shag all the other pretty horses.
In Jet2 airline terms it means the big fat ol horse gets to amble about in the big field and shag you a lot of times. Optimistic Outlook, I know you dress up in SS gear!
