Bonglebear,
That's exactly the kind of "I'm all right Jack" attitude which is killing the profession. And I mean this in the nicest possible way. Would your colleagues on various other contract agree with you?

In 10 years time when his salary is 30-40% less and his paid month off is now unpaid, just how happy would you be?
I would imagine those guys who were at Exel would stand up and fight for their profession given the fortunate circumstance. Ask the guys whose jobs we're saved recently by their union if they shouldn't have cared!
I do hope you are in the minority.

Ryanair made 5 times that last year NET - what did the staff get? More cuts

I smell management stooge and the smell is not nice....
you'll just have to admit that ryanair is well run. the proof is that it still exists. there's plenty of airlines who have collapsed recently and sadly more to come. like i told the guy from hr at my interview when i joined ryanair - i did so for two main reasons - job security and job satisfaction - and that hasn't changed; there's no signs of redundancies in the near future and as previously stated: i'm enjoying my work. sorry if you don't like hearing that.

To quote an episode of family guy "IF YOU DONT LIKE IT GO ON THE INTERNET AND COMPLAIN ABOUT IT"
LOL,, the producers must have been on pprune recently when they came up with that gag
thanks to the guy dedicating his post to me, to reply to it I had actuly signed up to the Balpa membership form the day before and was waiting to hear back from them,,, in the whats your salary field on the form I put zero as per my salary.
first email i got back from them other than the automated one was, thanks for signing up, please tell me your salary or expected flying hours so we can work out what your membership fees are!
no here is what we can do or here is what were planning to do and require all you poor FR pilots to get behind us with this plan,,,, it was a straight what can we charge you email
i may still be looking at it the wrong way but all i see is a company with its hand out again looking for as much as they can from me,,, IT SHOULD BE A FLAT FEE FOR ALL! say £200 a year or so,,, or maybe £200 for F/O's and £300 for Captains, not a %,, they will do no extra work for me the month I fly 100hours compaired to the crappy month I do 25hours,,, so why should they get 4X the money for the same thing that month???
I am still well on the fence about BALPA , maybe the thing I am going to say is until I research more about them and hear more I am not signing $$$ away to them
was only in the flight deck two days ago talking with a captain about it and he said, "aww there F'ing useless,, worked for a few airlines that they represented and were a total waste of time!" more food for thought.
still fairly new to the game really, only been flying for FR 2 years and got loads to learn, its too easy to throw money at every scheme offered to me, and it just seems that BALPA is another one of those schemes at the moment.
p.s. yea i do like commas,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

BongleBear - please tell me you are not for real. I realise on reflection that it would be completely inaccurate to suggest you are not capable of emotions such as love, kindness, consideration and thoughtfulness - it is just that these thought only seem to involve yourself. I sort of hope you are a management pilot just stirring things up. It would utterly depress me to find out that you are a line pilot who really thinks like this. Most people would be too embarrassed to admit to themselves, let alone anyone else, that they had thoughts like the ones you have expressed in their head.
No - it's all too much for me and I will have to leave this thread as I find it so depressing to read this sort of stuff. If there is anyone out there who can see merit in thinking about anyone else other than themselves and their immediate family, I would like to congratulate you as you would appear to be a very rare individual indeed.

mr meerkat, i look forward to flying with you one day, when easy collapses and we take you on. then you can spend all day telling me about how you're going to get a union in place at ryanair, but when it comes to it you'll be all mouth. we've heard it all before from those with big ideas inside the company - just the name changes: repa or balpa.
if someone comes to me with a plan then i'll look at it. but why would i risk my job by pissing off management? like i said, i have a comfortable working life. if ryanair decide they don't want me stirring it up at the company, they'll kick me out, then where will i go? last time i checked there's only one company recruiting, and they're certainly not painted bright orange.
if unions are so great, where have all your t's & c's gone over the last ten years?
i love my family enough to work hard and want to keep my job
i'm kind to all my friends who used to work for virgin, excel, bmi baby
i consider my position at work and realise exactly how disposable i am
and i'm thoughtful enough to reply to your message with due thought

Our profession is in terrible mess. Even in the good times it's been on the slide - in most part to short termist idiots such as the poster immediately above.
Tell me young man, just how much does FR contribute into your pension? Will FR support you if you get sick? PHI? Loss of licence?
You profess to love your family, but will the future generations of your family ever want to follow you into the profession after you've finished prostituting yourself?
Shame on you! You're nothing but a disgrace and based on your contributions, probably not trustworthy to command an aircraft.

call me selfish
call me selfish...
All of what you say is so very Ryanair, you must feel right at home.
The bit of your story that does not seem to add up is that you have had "nothing but" pay increases since joining Ryanair. Really!? What privileged part of the organisation do you occupy? You also seem to be sufficiently lacking in either intelligence or wit (or both) not to have seen what is going on around you or to even work out that - were your story to actually be true - they will get you in the end.
Speaking for myself, I would not be interested in your support. You are a natural ally of, and willing participant in all that I oppose.
Other posters can do what they want, but to allow this deluded person of limited capacity to perpetuate his implicit "pro Ryanair message" by engaging with him is counter-productive. I'm going to leave well enough alone and hope you will agree that feeding the delusions of this troll serves us in no way.

Around a year ago ,a trusted colleague who had been in Ryanair for 10yrs at that point, told me that having done all the Maths (and given that inflation in real terms is always worse than governments puny utterances, it is probably if anything an underestimate ) his take home pay in real terms had fallen by 40%.
He is not one given to exaggeration, and this figure of course fails to take into account the various amounts lost in the last 12 months. Lets say 50% less in 11 years probably?
Believe it or not as you wish, but the info comes from someone who was there and earning throughout that period.

Bonglebear - I would bet the subs for cub-scouts or something similar are less than what you would pay into a union which provides all sorts of benefits.
If we win you better not be there with your hand out.
Zerotohero - I called you a peasant. You attitude towards your colleagues is disgusting. Same for you too, if we win you better not be there with your hand out also, I bet you would swap your right arm for a permanent contract.

Zero, that is one big reason to stand up for the RYR contract, make it WORTH something. BRK agreements will not remain at the same level while RYR contracts take a hit. Just look at the new BRK agreements at the same time RYR agreements were made, a 7% pay decrease plus 10% cut in command during your first years. Remember you will need to sign this new agreements to move onto command, move base or maybe just for the hell of it if BRK decides they want to swap you over.
If you let one slip, the other will slip too.

Spot the management spokesman - a game we can all play
Allowing for the fact that some people actually may be happy with their treatment by Ryanair (or just stupid) the post by zerotohero above has all the management "fellow traveller" characteristics which I suggested for BongleB. It has dawned on me that this may turn out to be a good test for other posters. To apply this test just have look at what zerotohero is saying from the point of view of the current "Ryanair message for idiots to believe". Here is his entire post, restated in “Ryanair speak”.
Selfish and egocentric. 20% of available marks.
Brookfield good - full-time contract (believe it or not) bad (necessary to justify current employment tactics for new pilots). 20% of available marks.
Repetition of message (10% of marks). But also pilot stupidity (much loved by Ryanair), for which reason we must award Bonus marks of 15%
Repetition and reinforcement of pro BRK message to encourage new F/Os not to listen to those who point out where the BRK contract is going to leave them. 20% of available marks.
Additional marks for sustaining the message over several posts, promoting the Ryanair view of human greed and general helpfulness to the Ryanair cause – 15%. 100% - congrats!!!
zerotohero has earned maximum marks and is therefore a suitable candidate to move forward to a higher level. Options open to him include:
- More of the same (current kindergarten level)
- Active betrayal of colleagues (senior infants)
- Form an ERC and do a deal for your colleagues in exchange for a training position and “special personal advancement”. A primer course is available from the Dublin ERC. (Secondary level)
- Enter the management team and engage in active promotion of “survival of the fittest” man management” techniques for which Ryanair are beloved across the globe. (Advanced level)

The 'ryanair' contract has gone down the pan in recent months to the point where there is very lttle difference between the RYR and BRK contracts.Month off,pay for hotels and transport etc etc.
People say that the job security is better on RYR - tosh.
If they ever let contract guys redundant, the whole airline would be in a sorry state.RYR is BRK and BRK is RYR.Ryr need BRK to line there pockets.
So from what i can see - the money is less on a RYR,with very few benefits.

And what are we to make of you, Delwy, in the Eurovision contest of squealing stuck pigs? Nil points, je propose.
As always, anyone with a view at variance with your own must, by definition, be a management stooge. How very tiresome. How very ordinary. How very Delwy.

Pressman, are you serious??????????????????????????
Not being funny but that is outrageous! Where did u hear this??
The reason I ask is I know many BRK guys whom I trained with initially and they are still busy! would be very concerned for them if that was the case and non have hinted of such a thing!

so what should a pilot in ryanair do? it looks like the vast majority posting on this particular thread are not part of the company, so what would you do?
for a pilot who is a member of balpa, what more should one do? promises are made by repa and balpa, then every now and then someone comes along and says 'let's all vote'... then nothing. are we actually going to vote? i hope we do. i shall of course be voting in favour of union recognition. i may be selfish, egocentric and cynical, but i know what's good for me.
ryanair knows if it came to vote it would be a whitewash, that's why they're threatening us.
and to answer my growing number of fans,
yes, brian clough...
£5000 matched contribution per annum. why?
p.s. first i've heard of bookfield guys losing their jobs, surely you haven't reverted to making up lies to prove your point? now who's sounding like management stooge
