Whichever way you do the maths then the previously estimated recruitment requirements that BA had remain unchanged.
I don't see the reason for the pessimism personally. A long wait in the holding pool is normal, as is seeing people fished out ahead of you since BA must match people to types as cost effectively as possible. It ain't pleasant but it's understandable and necessary.

I was one of the first out of the pool earlier this year and as far as I can tell cranebank has been working full tilt since then. There is only a finite amount of training resource, and as well as the DEP recruitment there is 3 or so years of pent up pressure within BA for fleet moves, command courses etc which has suddenly been released.
As I was in the 2008 hold pool that was disbanded I know what its like to wait and watch and agonise over every news story and every hint of movement / change etc - but I don't think there is anything other than a resource driven critical path in the training department at the moment. Chill people your time will come.
To those of you who just got the 767 call - welcome to the best fleet
- I look forward to seeing you online and also to the iminent rise of my lowly seniority position! feel free to drop me a line for any info as I have just recently done the course myself.

makes me wonder if its maybe time to give up
Why give up now? If you've been in the pool, and it's costing you nothing etc, why bail? I understand vacancies on 737, 767 and A320 continue with more to be offered imminently. Waits on fleets are varying as mentioned above, but no stoppage or freeze as others have rushed to assume above

You mentioned EK..looks like you are in a fortunate position with two majors looking for you! Which is your preference? Not many buddies in the ME, most hung around the UK/Europe.

Was more meant in the sense of take that offer that is actually there than stay in a holdpool for an indefinite amount of time as bills need paid, career needs to progress and trouble and strife needs to kept happy.
I'm lucky to have the option but I've been in this position before (not specifically these airlines) and without any notice they were gone and I was back at square one. Just my reasons for being anxious and wanting to know things are moving.
Fingers crossed!

Mikehotel152: if you search my post history, I asked for sim pointers last summer. I found the replies quite useful for my own sim.

B737 400 SIM
Hi Folks,
Does anybody out there know which Flight Instruments are installed in the BA B737-400 SIM in Cranebank.
Is there an EADI/EHSI? What about a speed tape on the EADI?
Got a sim check coming up and any info would help.
Thanks alot.

Just had the good news from BA. I am through to the next stage which for me is an interview. This will be in early 2012. The email states that ALL remaining screening has now been complete for this round of DEP recruitment.
Good luck all.
Good luck all.

Hi,
Both BA's 734 sims have EADI and EHSI fitted. Our EADI's show the speed tape, Rad alt (when 2500ft AGL), VOR/ILS deviation scale, Mach no (only when >.40), Ground speed, FMA's, bank indicator and scale and the rising runway (<200ft AGL).
The only thing really worth noting is that both the sims as with all our a/c have the steam driven (pointers) engine instruments on the centre instrument panel.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your sim.

Hi bluepilot,
Sim check is for a large ME carrier that is currently doing assessments in UK. I guess the only Sim's available are the B737-400... I'm used to flying the 800 so it's going to be strange with all the round dials!

73addict,
Thank you so much... just the info I needed.
I'm flying 800 and would have found it very difficult to use the old stlye round ASI at this stage! It's hard to re-teach an auld dog old tricks!

Hi all,
I received a general update from BA today that may be of general interest to those waiting for various stages of the process.
Regards
I received a general update from BA today that may be of general interest to those waiting for various stages of the process.
This is a quick update for you, as a DEP Hold Pool member, on the current training and vacancy situation at BA.
We are continuing to offer DEP vacancies for 2012, and have now completed the offer process for all courses in January and the first vacancies for February.
The Hold Pool is currently well stocked with a mix of candidates and experience, and waiting times are really very variable, principally depending on the type rating you hold : with the exception of colleagues joining us from the Armed Forces, all candidates are presently being streamed to the type they currently operate. In some cases, waiting times are relatively short, in others they're likely to be a while. Rest assured we will be in touch just as soon as we have a vacancy to offer you.
