Hi qlouis76

just my point of view, might as well get the report from the ophthalmologist authorized by DCA Malaysia.
can find the list of medical examiner listed in the DCA website (just google, this PPRUNE doesnt allow me to post URL untill i post 10 post :/)

just make an appointment, tell the Doc that you want to do pilot test, (state snells test, colour test. etc,) then it'll do.

Best Regards

Swimming proficiency level prior to preliminary interview

i got selected for SIA Ab Initio cadet Pilot preliminary interview. Is it a must for me to be proficient in swimming prior to this interview? Because mine is of amateur level, I will need more training (which I am willing to do) in order to be able to swim as per questioned in the CV Summary Form (Are you able to swim for 100m and tread water for at least 15 minutes without a life jacket?). Will training be provided if I answer NO? Besides, this question was also asked in the online application form, and I answered NO, yet I am selected for the preliminary interview. Just to get a clear information on this.:confused:

16/12 Malaysia preliminary interview

Hi guys, wanna give a quick field report on the preliminary interview done in Malaysia on the 16th.
I was in the 4pm batch. The interviews for the 2pm batch ran abit late, so by the time my batch started it was way past 4pm. When you enter the premises, you will be given a questionnaire to fill in. It contains many of the questions that we had to fill in when we first applied. Me and the boys reckon they are trying to catch us out if we lied in our initial application.

After waiting for a bit you will be called out to have your height measured, and then you proceed to wait a bit more. Next comes the document verification stage. Bring every single thing that was requested of in the email, as they will go through each and every document thoroughly. After that you will be given a notice form informing you of your bond and repayment obligation if you are chosen. Also you can put your preference for either SIA, SilkAir or Cargo.

Next you will be directed to wait outside one of the interview rooms (there are a few).

Now on to the meat of the issue, the interview itself. My first question was tell me about yourself. I'm sure everyone has rehearsed their answers by now. Then, it's why do you want to be a pilot. So far so good. As you answer your questions, they will draw the following questions from your answers, so if you are smart about it, you can predict what they will be asking and prepare around it. As I came from a engineering background with some work experience, they asked me about that, and how is it related to the aviation industry.

I don't think I did too well, as they were very insistent on gauging your passion for aviation in general. I was asked to tell them something about airplanes. I chose to describe about the engines and they followed up with questions like: tellbus how.many stages are there in the compressor, what is the exhaust temperature etc. I was able to answer most of them but they will jump on any hesistation/wrong answers, saying if you are as passionate about aviation as you say, why do you not know this and that. It might have been a tactic to see how you respond under pressure or a genuine question, but I hope it's the former heh.

At the end of the interview they will ask you if you have any questions, And that's it!. I forgot to ask them when will we know if we pass/fail, so if any bros here can chime in, that would be much appreciated. Feel free to ask me anything.

Gamuda 17th Dec 2017 11:21

@aircloudsky

very thorough of the interview that you've explained there. and yes, i did ask the question and he said the candidates will know the outcome of the interview in a few weeks time rather they fail or pass.

2nd stage will be held in Singapore like the usual interview stage.

fingers cross, merry Christmas and happy new year

rjibran 18th Dec 2017 00:16

@aircloudsky @gamuda

Thanks guys for sharing your experience with us. I have couple of questions for you guys and hope that you guys will answer them:

1) After how many days/weeks did you guys got invitation for the initial interview after submitting your application online?

2) Which program did you guys applied for? Malaysian or Singapore?

3) Are you guys Malaysian citizens, Singaporean citizens, permanent residents, or foreigners (U.S., U.K., or Indian citizen etc etc.)?

Thanks :)

Same situation, unable to answer some of the geography questions and they said my reply is too vague and not in depth. They were continuously provoking and make you feel like you're not up to their expectation. I was asked to go to the interview room just beside the waiting room. My interviewer was a chinese and the other looked like a north indian guy.

aircloudsky 18th Dec 2017 13:11

@Gamuda

Cheers bro, merry Christmas and a happy holidays to you too.

@rjibran
1) applications closed on the 25th of November I believe. Received my invitation on the 29th of November.

2) Applied for the Malaysian one.

3) Malaysian citizen.

My interviewer were same as yours and same situation as well. In my case, only the Chinese uncle asked question. He didn't even asked me to intro myself. He straight away asked me Why do you want to become pilot and what do you think you have to become pilot? After I answer them he kept provoke my answer and then the Indian uncle kept nodding his head to disagree my answer.

May I know how long your interview process run for?

What time was your interview bro? For me the Indian guy asked me questions first. I was able to able to answer all his questions perfectly. Then halfway the Chinese guy interceded and his questions although I was able to answer generally, he said not satisfying, he wants in depth.. its like they are trying to find flaws in you and use it as a point to hit you.. i think generally they wanted to test your reaction/respond..Hahaha..

Mine was about 20 minutes im guessing, what about yours?

How are you guys preparing for the interview? Is previous experience on flightsim gonna help? Like if I tell then I fly PMDG 737, Fslabs a320 , do VATSIM etc, is it gonna help me in anyway? I have no clue how to prepare for it. If anyone can help me out, it'd be great. Thanks and all the best to everyone who are awaiting their result.

no bro , as of now no "international" applicant has been called. only Singaporeans and Malaysians. the goal is to fill the upcoming positions with locals and if they still find lack of people , only then they shall look into international applicants. as far as preparation goes there isnt much to prepare for. The main element of the process is the interview, where they check your interest towards flying and aviation. Be assured you cant fake it cause they are very good at screening people. so just be yourself and keep the usual answers to questions such as " tell me about yourself" ready.
