@btommy
correction to what i mentioned, it was 25 738 pending orders earlier (19 for jet and 6 for lite), it's now 16 (10 for jet and 6 for lite)

with no orders pending for the ATRs and almost all the vacancies filled up, clearly the current recruitment is only for 738s

after having called jet to find out when the interviews are, they said "no plans as of now", so your guess will be as good as mine, it could be anytime around mar-apr 2012

around 400 must have been called for the gd, but quite a few didn't show up, so may be around 350, out of which approximately 200-225 must have got through and are waiting for the rest of the process

based on the orders, my best guess would be around 75-90 vacancies

225 candidates seems a high number. I dont know of many people who passed the GD in my round, in fact less than half did. My guess would be around 150

TO ALL

The hiring in jet is on freeze in all departments except experience holder p1 and p2.This will remain till another 2-3 months till the market gets good meaning the european turmoil starts improving.The company has said that the company is in loss and we need to utilize all our resources within to improve output without hiring anybody,till then clear all training part which is due.How do I know,I work for jet not pilot but in operations

Well, it kind of makes sense for Jet to freeze all hiring considering they have a hell lot of people in the training stage.. FOs who haven't been released yet.. but what about JetLite? They have a shortage of P2s and those who're flying are just waiting for P1 upgrades.. I've heard a lot of their P2s left for SG for command and a hefty joining bonus.. you think they're gonna hire FOs soon considering they just got another aircraft and supposed to get a few more??

FYI

the last of the batches from aug 2010 session which was assigned to ATR, completed their DGCA technical exam 2 weeks ago, currently on observation flights and are heading to madrid for TR in the 3rd week of december

source: 2 of my own friends are actually in this batch among 10-12 others

this, i believe, is the last batch getting recruited for ATR for a while, as i mentioned earlier. i still standby my statement that all batches from feb 2011 session will be for 738 this ATR batch consists of those who couldn't manage to clear the interview stage the first time around and were given a second chance, having said that i can safely assume that all recruitment from the august 2010 session is complete, we're next!

@aroumika,
your statement that the people who could not clear the interview for the first time and who were called again for the interview have been given ATR fleet is not fully correct.....some of them were given 738 and now doing the suppy..

Jet Airways to lease 10 A320s for JetLite fleet

Mumbai: The country's largest private carrier Jet Airways is talking to leasing companies to acquire more than 10 Airbus A320s through a sale and leaseback option at a time when the aviation industry is going through a turbulent phase caused by soaring aviation fuel prices and a depreciating rupee.
With Kingfisher Airlines planning to phase out its low-cost airline Kingfisher Red in two months - Red accounts for 50-60% of Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher Airlines - Jet senses its opportunity, and wants to rework its budget airline strategy to gain market share in this rapidly growing segment.
"This market share (Kingfisher Red's) will be there for the airlines once Kingfisher Red is phased out in another two months' time," said Kapil Kaul, CEO, South Asia, Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), an advisory aviation firm.
According to sources, Jet will use the A320s to replace its ageing JetLite fleet which it had acquired from Sahara India in April 2007 for Rs 1,450 crore. JetLite, the low-cost subsidiary of Jet Airways, has a fleet of 18 737 single-aisle aircraft and flies to 27 domestic routes and one international destination.
Industry experts believe that reconfiguration in fleet by Jet might work for the airline because A320s are more fuel efficient and has better passenger capacity. Jet has also been struggling to get pilots for the old 737s.

A-320's for jetlite? well it doesnt make any sense. A brand new type for an airlines which is loosing money, they hve around 18 737NG's in there fleet and close to 200 pilots on jetlite rolls. now even if they adjust few pilots in jetairways and give type conversion training to rest of them will cost huge amount, then arranging enough engineers for maintainance, operational changes, cabin crew training and whole lota other things . not a wise idea if at all true, they can easily take new leased NG's if they wanna phase out old fleet.

@nishantgupta2009
tough to tell, but i still think around april 2012, having said that, i wonder how many have opted out from the jet process because they've already been inducted into indigo or spice, it would make our competition easier perhaps? i know 4 such people, so obviously there are more

clearly the indigo thread is way more active as well, i guess call letters for their december attempt got sent out today

BAD NEWS

Ladies and Gentleman,

There is news for this batch of people who are waiting to be called for the Personal Interview. Their worst fear has come true, coz it has been put off indefinitely..
They are internally recruiting people with the rating and they have decided they will not take in anyone without the rating.. I am not very sure what is their basis of selection now onwards, but we are NOT going to be called to join, EVER..

My source is internal and 100% confirmed. Please don't pounce on me about this info, where what and blah blah, because there is no use. Even I had a hope to be called till today, but now I am not waiting for it any longer.
Indigooooo please take the written test.. PLEASEEEEE!!!

i don't mean to pounce on you, but sorry i'm not buying that especially your statement "we are not going to be called to join, ever", that doesn't justify their purpose of taking the trouble to hold our selection process especially when the gd was only 4 months ago! besides if it was called off they would have surely mailed us by now to tell us not to wait and to explore other opportunities it might be delayed a little more than we might anticipate, but we're definitely going to get the call eventually

P.S - where are these internally recruited people with a "rating" suddenly appearing from? to my knowledge there's not many "type-rated" pilots without a job - may be just a hand full, and certainly not enough to fill up the vacancies for their expanding fleet, might i add that 99% of the unemployed freshers are "non type-rated", so it's just a matter of time

oh and i did call them 3 weeks ago and they did tell me that it's "indefinitely postponed" too, but their interpretation of that means "they don't know when it's going to be as of now", and doesn't mean "it's canceled" by any means

Guess its time to move on . .

It will happen when it has to happen..

I know a someone who got selected for jet in 2008 was put on hold and got called back for the medicals in 2011! He is now a first officer in Jet..

@auromika - I guess its time to appear for the Indigo test now

@Aroumika:
Pal, even I don’t want to believe this as much as anyone here, as this defies all the logical conclusions we arrived at among ourselves. But when a well-wisher within the management says, “Start looking for other opportunities, this ain’t happening”, I have no choice but to believe them (even though how much ever I wanted to punch them on hearing this).
I agree with all the logic about the number of aircraft they "WILL” be inducting and the no. of vacancies they “SHOULD” have, the probability that they “MIGHT” call us, HOW can they not call us?? ………...too many uncertainities..
Also, we can't by any means know the exact number of freshers with the rating and how they get in silently aka backdoor. These are the things which have been happening and will continue to happen. Moreover not everyone sits waiting for a call, they go and get their ratings in the meantime and thus increasing the numbers.
Having said this, I still have the confidence that all of us optimists will still wait for a call from them(as if we have options). Just that, we can avoid putting all the eggs in one basket.
I would be extremely happy if someone with legitimate info from Jet asks me to SHUT UP and say that I AM WRONG.. REALLY..

@ITAviator
alright buddy no worries, i appreciate the info, we'll just have to keep trying and hope for the best

@aadityaslg
yea i guess it's time to look at indigo again, but the only problem is their call-ups are irregular (some months i get a call, the other times i don't), besides i was really hesitant considering i have only one free attempt left and i didn't want to blow it up too, but clearly there's no choice now

on that dismal note, this happens to be my 150th post, thanks pprune

interview dates

hi guys.
all id like to say is that its important to remain positive. look at other options too. in all honesty if we have got this far i think we have what it takes to go all the way. its all about timing. if FDI in airlines in allowed i dont see why a huge hiring frenzy wouldnt start off. just be patient when the time is right things will happen and until then keep yourself occupied.
