Snoop

It was getting very quiet so I thought that I should post something. Most of the pilots from the August 2010 recruitment have either come online or have been given dates for their sim check. Seems like a step in a positive direction.

Jet cuts trainee co-pilots’ pay from Rs 1.3L to Rs 50k

NEW DELHI: India's largest private airline Jet Airways has reduced the monthly salary of its trainee co-pilots by almost 60% from about Rs 1.3 lakh to Rs 50,000 in the New Year. The decision was conveyed to its trainee co-pilots in last week and is among a series of steps that the airline is taking to cut costs and survive the life-threatening phase that Indian carriers are passing through due to a mix of high operating cost environment at home and a slowing down economy.

"The company is going through turbulent times as a result of low fares, ever-rising crude oil process, high airport levies, rupee devaluation and a recessionary economic scenario... we are reducing costs through re-negotiation of all contracts with our vendors, service providers and curtailing expenditure. As a part of the austerity measures effective January 1, 2012, it is proposed that you would continue to draw Rs 50,000 per month till you are released to fly online on the fleet..." the letter sent by S B Srivastava, Jet's V-P (HR), to the trainee first officer says, while adding that other terms of their employment remain unchanged.

During the last slowdown also Jet had reduced salaries of its employees to survive the tough economic conditions and then restored them to pre-cut levels when the environment improved. Its two full service peers - Air India and Kingfisher - have been unable to pay salaries to employees in time for months now. "We last got paid in first week of November and have got nothing since then. Now our five months' salary and allowances are due. There is no light at the end of this tunnel and it seems the government expects us to work without pay. How long can this continue? Our stress levels is dangerously high as the topic of conversation is mainly unpaid bills and EMIs in cockpit of any stressed airline like AI or Kingfisher," said an agitated Air India commander.

While AI and Kingfisher are drowning under the weight of their losses and debt, Jet has also run into losses due to the high cost environment. In the quarter ended September 30, 2011, it posted a loss of Rs 713.6 crore versus a profit of Rs 12.4 crore in same period last year.

Trainee co-pilots join an airline after getting type rated (certified) to fly a particular aircraft. They are first trained to fly by being seated on the co-pilot's seat with a commander and a co-pilot on the third seat in the cockpit (called jump seat).

In effect what Shri Srivastava is implying is that your release online may take longer than you think, as his company will want to keep saving the 80k p.m. x number of Trainee Pilots taken in. "Other terms of employment remain unchanged".(sic)

These HR types love to show their worth to there bosses by showing how they can save cost for the company, at others cost, while their 'cost to company' keeps increasing every year, recession or not!

LOL First let them resume the process and recruit us.Then we can think of the pay. We need a job first and build up some experience first irrespective of the pay. Whole world is open for experienced pilots but none for freshers.

Jet Airways delays December salary

Trouble for airline companies continues, as India largest airline by market share, Jet Airways has delayed payment of salary for the month of December.

The worst hit are the pilots, engineers and senior management, who will receive their salaries on the 14th of January. The remaining employees will get their salaries by 7th of January.

The airline informed the employees about this latest development via an official mail send out by the company's HR head. No reasons were mentioned in the mail as to why the salaries have been delayed.

Typically Jet Airway's employees receive their salaries by the 4th or 5th of every month. ET NOW is in possession of the letter send out by the HR.

After Kingfisher Airlines and Air India, Jet Airways is the latest to join the list of companies that have delay salaries. Earlier this week, the airline also slashed salaries of its trainee pilots,

Jet Airways has close to 950 pilots and 12000 employees.

Jetlite & Jet Konnect Merges

BUSINESS STANDARD :- Aneesh Phadnis / Mumbai January 07, 2012, 0:12 IST

Jet Airways, the largest domestic airline, will merge its no-frills brands JetLite and Jet Konnect and operate under the brand name of the latter.
notices

The move to arrest losses and compete with other low-cost airlines had been in the management's mind for some time, but the decision has been taken now. No date has been announced regarding the re-branding exercise.
The airline's spokesperson did not respond to an email query and text messages. A senior executive, however, confirmed the move.

"We see an uptick in corporate business. We will have Jet Airways full service and Jet Konnect. All Boeing 737s of Konnect will have two classes,'' he said.

Currently, the airline operates the two no-frills brands and a full service brand in the domestic sector.

"JetLite does not have a wider passenger appeal. The re-branding would help us improve market share,'' said a source. Re-branding would also help the airline to attract corporate and business traffic, which is migrating to low-cost carrier IndiGo.

According to the Directorate General for Civil Aviation's November data, Jet Airways plus JetLite have a market share of 27.1 per cent. JetLite's share is 7.3 per cent, while the balance comes from Jet Airways.

Financially, too, JetLite's performance has been a matter of concern for the airline. In an interaction with equity analysts in July, the airline admitted JetLite was less immune to "irrational pricing'' or discount pricing, which was being practiced by competitors.

Re-branding would involve change in JetLite livery and reconfiguration of single class Boeing 737s. However, according to a source, initially the airline would use the JetLite planes for Konnect service without undertaking reconfiguration. Sources also indicate there may not be any cross-utilisation of crew and pilots after the brand change.

Jet Airways rebranded the Air Sahara after acquiring it in 2007 for Rs 1,450 crore. Till now, JetLite flies on an Air Sahara operating permit and is a subsidiary of Jet Airways with different books of accounts. Jet and Sahara fought a bitter legal dispute over acquisition price of Air Sahara and the matter is still pending in the Supreme Court.

Jet Airways has a fleet of 101, including 59 Boeing 737s with twin class configuration. JetLite has 18 all-economy Boeing 737s, which are flown on 31 domestic routes and to Kathmandu.

The airline posted a net loss of Rs 713 crore in second quarter of 2011-12, while JetLite, which has considerably smaller operations, lost Rs 100 crore during the same period.

On an operating level, Jet recorded earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (Ebitda) profit of Rs 172 crore, and JetLite an Ebitda loss of Rs 41 crore.

The breakeven seat factor and average revenue per passenger showed negative trend for JetLite in the second quarter. It was 99.3 per cent and average gross revenue for passenger fell by 15 per cent to Rs 3,160 crore. The trend was similar in the first quarter, including falling average revenue and higher break even seat factor.

Pay cuts for a Trainee Pilot are very easy to implement, nobody to cover the poor guys a**e, but to do it for online F/Os or Capts is a different ballgame. There are functional pilots associations & guilds that can rock the boat if management does it unilaterally without showing just cause.

Yes, airlines are going through a rough patch because of financial down trends & costs, but if Indigo can manage & show a profit, why not others? Ask airline managements to first do some serious soul searching, as to why time and again they reach such a critical financial situation.

on a less important note, i'm glad the jetlite livery is finally being changed, that pale light blue and bright yellow doesn't make their planes look very pretty, hopefully a darker shade of blue?

while the pay cut of trainee co-pilots is a bummer, it's just a matter of flying a few sectors before being released and being paid the normal 1.3 lacs, so probably about 2 months with a 50k pay, i wouldn't bother much about it

anyone hear anything about the interview round yet? the wait is really getting to me, very depressing!

next month would be exactly one year that i wrote the written exam, for some it's already been more than a year (written exam - aug '10), i'm sure we all thought we'd be employed and flying by now, not to be!

2 months? Yea sure...

They are short of check pilots right now, hence the delay in going on line for the last couple of years. 2011 the average was 6-7 months before you went online.

@LieDetector
okay may be i was a few months off, but you get the point if we've waited so many years doing our training, clearing our dgca and RT exams, waiting more than a year for the jet process etc (it's been a roller-coaster ride uptil now), then surely a few extra months as trainee co-pilot with a compromised pay won't kill ya

besides since when did we start wanting to fly for the money? i'm certainly in it for the love of the job and the thrill i get from even just the thought of it! no doubt money is important in a materialistic world like today, but that's not all there is to it because if you love your job and enjoy what you do, the money will come in automatically

right now, our main concern is getting the job in the first place rather than focusing too much on the salary part of it, i hope you can agree with me on this aspect and in my opinion we already have one foot in the door, alot of other unemployed pilots lurking in the dark would beg to be in our position with regards to the jet process

jet salary

this pay cut is for the ppl who joined jet after type rating and were given 1.3 first than after release 2.2 , but non type rated pilot were paid 1.3 after release, so there was discrimination u can say, now the airline has put both category pilots on same platform which i think should bother only type rated guys not normal ppl.
