Total 4084 pilots working with airlines in the country

Total 4084 pilots working with airlines in the country

Total 4084 pilots working with airlines in the country

As on 1 January, 2010, a total 4084 pilots, including foreign pilots are working with the airlines of the country. This information was given by the Minister of Civil Aviation, Praful Patel in Rajya Sabha.

The number of foreign pilots working in India as on 1 January, 2010 are Go Air - 4; Blue Dart - 7; Alliance Air - 23; Kingfisher Airlines - 139; Jet Airways - 137; Air India (including Air India Express) - 136; Jetlite - 3; Indigo - 41; Deccan Cargo - 7; Paramount Airways - 22; Spice Jet – 42 and Jagson - 1.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) only issues licences to the trained and qualified pilots in compliance of the requirements of Aircraft Rules. It does not maintain records of unemployed pilots in the country. The recruitment of pilots and their subsequent training is the prerogative of the individual airlines.

Under the scholarship scheme of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates are trained upto Private Pilot Licence (PPL). However, these candidates can join any airline only after acquiring a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).

There are 17 operational flying training institutes functioning under Government/State Governments.

A premier flying institute; the National Flying Training Institute has been set up at Gondia in Maharashtra. The existing facilities at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi have also been upgraded.

The other flying clubs in the country are also supported by way of distribution of trainer aircraft through the Aero Club of India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. However, recruitment of pilots is the prerogative of the individual airlines.

@shanx

Jet takes about 60 pilots every time they have a recruitment. But they are normally called for training (ground and sims) in 2 batches.

The once that are about to be released online are from the first half of the may 2008 batch. The rest are yet to start their sims. They are most likely to start sims from april. After they are done there are abot 60 pilots who cleared the IPT in sep 2008 who will be inducted in 2 batches. This is expected to happen around sep this year.

Sims are expected to go slow as Jet has a shortage of instructors on the 737s.

When you have a debt to asset ratio like KF does today , it would be suicidal to induct the kind of aircraft they are talking about.What's actually happening is that KF needs foreign investors to invest in them and is lobbying with the government to allow foreign airlines to invest directly.They're just doing some creative accouting and some fancy projections to get a poor fool to invest.It's tough times and you need smart people to run airline companies around the world.I don't think any smart airline would invest in KF once they have a look at their balance sheet..

I await one instance when the media might write something which is correct.
Non convertible debentures worth 700 Cr. by Air India.

Wasn't the March - April 09 induction officially scrapped ? How come its back on its foot ?
Whatever happened there was no official notification.

Time for some RTI applications. Don't you think so ?

they are going to hire some 90 to 100 pilots

and rest will be their own cadets who are also sitting from long time

@silent:
No, the match-april recruitment was never officially canceled. It was put on hold and never officially scrapped. What we read in the papers were just rumors and there was no official statement from the airline which said that the batch was scrapped. There were allegations of malpractice so the vigilence dept. had to investigate it and they cleared it June.

The batch was supposed to be inducted around June-July but by then all recruitemnts had been put on hold. Now they need pilots for the 787s and to replace the expats. The new guys will be put on the RHS and the senior F/Os are being upgraded to command.

They will probably need more pilots in the future (mostly in 2011) but not any more now.

True.

50 lakhs X 20 = 1000 lakhs = 10 crore Rupees !!
Add to that a lot of pressure from power centers in New Delhi.
When THAT much money and power is involved in recruitment process, how on earth can it be put off or scrapped ?

The vigilance dept. was not getting it's cut, hence the long delay.

@ shanx --- nice calculation there .. rofl

about two months back i spoke to one of the guys selected.. quite a maverick with his attitude... poor guy was lamenting over his fate and declaring to the world how unfortunate it is to not get selected after having beaten 1400 guys to a plush 777 seat...

later the poor chap put both his feet in the mouth when he said..."hey tushar do you know who is capt devi saran.." i was like "yeah the IC814 hero"..then he replies "hes my uncle ...he was my inspiration."

i thought to myself with such uncles to give you "inspiration" you wont need the "perspiration" to reach your "destination"

gosh i sound so much like a sour grape story

Kind of odd considering the ad was posted on the 25th of march

May i ask how did you know that it was 26th ?

Also do you know any other details regarding the deal with CAE like whether Indigo pays for the type rating and if not how it costs ?

@optimus.prime

so did u get any reply from them apart from the initial email in which they asked for ur latest cv and hours details

and also it no where guarantees u the job
even after completing your type rating they say its not guaranteed that u will land up with a job in indigo

so cae is basically a trto making its own profit in name of indigo

they should have atleast guaranteed a job after tr

@avalanche,

Negative on the First Q.Waiting...........

Have you got any info. apart from the initial?

Secondly a little homework on the CAE-IndiGo "TieUP" proves their track record to be pretty decent. One of my friends who got On-Line a couple of months ago was telling about how nearly 99% of the guys opting for it get into IndiGo (He himself being a product of this "TieUP")
