Smokers?
Hi,
As per the title, apart from the ill health effects of chugging the stuff or the higher rate of not clearing medicals, any idea if it plays a part as a selection criteria by the panel or HR?
We all know that pilots who have a bypass or heart attack may never be allowed to fly so I'm not sure if its used as an assessment.
It's a question that may stump if one is asked. To say the truth but at the possible consequence of jeopardising your chance, or to lie, but hey... who are we kidding right... it'll show up anyhow in your medicals.
Comments please, gentlemen

@moccajava: I think it's better to tell the truth that you are a smoker if you are one. I believe the last thing any employer wants is someone with no integrity. I don't think there is any harm in telling SIA that you smoke and i don't think the panel or the HR has grounds to reject you because of that. It all depends on the medical. It probably depends if you have some serious complications due to smoking and then would the medical reject you because of that.
Hi guys, I am new here. I got a few questions regarding the age requirement. What is the minimum age that SIA will grant a 1st interview and contract signing/go obs?
I've read through the whole thread and it seems that they are granting interviews even before 25 and sending people to obs at 25.5? Can anyone confirm?
Thanks.

@moccajava: Be honest.
@ Frankenstein: You are right with what you've read. There are guys who went for 1st interview before 25 years old. As for contract signing, etc.. I think the minimum age should be 25 (yet to be corrected).
@ rainmaster: Congrats on getting called up for your 1st Interview! You're right, it's very important to read up and prepare yourself. They can ask you anything under the sun from current Oil prices to the latest volcano erruption affecting aviation. Do a google on your favourite aircraft. Recognise the fleet/company history. A little bit on the technicals behind flying would help too!
There's a wealth of info in this forum and in other forums. Do a search. Hope that helps and good luck!

@Keith: Are you a Singaporean? If you are, you probably have to wait till you are just 25yo before submitting an online application to SIA. Meanwhile, build up your interest and passion in a things aviation.
Cheers!

@Keith: REQUIREMENTS
But for the eyesight, that is the maximum you can go to. Meaning if it is correctable back to 6/6, they might/might not accept you because it already exceed their top limit of 125 degrees. (please correct this if i'm wrong)
No harm applying bro..
- Singapore Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident or Malaysian Citizen
- GCE ‘A’ level, Polytechnic Diploma or Degree. In addition, you must have obtained a minimum of 5 Credits in the GCE ‘O’ level or its equivalent. These must include English, Mathematics and a Science subject, preferably Physics, taken at one sitting
- At least 1.65 m in height
- Myopia of not more than 500 degrees and astigmatism of not more than 125 degrees, fully correctable with optical aids. Visual acuity of at least 6/60, correctable to 6/6. For candidates who have undergone corrective eye surgery (e.g. Lasik), the pre-surgical visual acuity should also meet the above requirements
- Medically fit

your astig is only minimal, send in your application and hope for the best..
to give you some confidence, my astig is 250 and 300(no myopia), and i got called for interview even after declaring it. but then, it might have been a mistake on their side too, 'cause when the cadet was going through my application before the interview, he was wondering why my astig so high yet get called up

@Keith: I don't think they have a very specific CV. I sent mine in, from what my school taught me to, and they emailed me to arrange for an interview. Too bad I am currently in China and will not be back till December. They said they will reschedule an interview for me.

Reschedule of Interview dates
Hi there, been following this forum religiously though I did not post any thread. Since Jeremy mentioned about the reschedule, may I ask if SQ entertain any reschedules? I have submitted my application last monday and have yet to get a reply (maybe due to the fact that I will graduate only May next year?) from them. A little worried that they may call me when I am away for a trip in mid december. Thus am wondering if anyone has experiences on rescheduling of interviews to share.
That place that I am going to may not have reception, thus will they drop my application if they cannot get through to my mobile, which is my primary mode of contact?
YK
