Who said BMW's are good anyway ?! (I don't agree with the analogy at all by the way).
The Eurocopter are sold in smaller numbers cost more to produce and are sold for more $$$ (just like a baby BMW or Mercedes-Benz), they also use a more advanced tail rotor design, main rotor head, composite MR blades and extensive use of composites in the fuselage, computerised systems, crash worthy seats, utility cabin, sliding door etc etc..
Just like a Cabri G2 is not the same as a 22, there is a price difference and both seat 2 people, forget about the car analogy, they are two different pedigree of choppers.
I can't believe this has surfaced yet again! The R66 and the EC120 are like chalk and cheese, or for a more accurate analogy, a Caterham and a BMW. One is designed to be cheap, basic and functional with a relatively high power to weight ratio (and ugly IMO), the other is designed is to be sophisticated, solid and spacious with modern avionics/construction (and elegant).
You pays your money, you takes your choice; at the end of the day, the most suitable machine is one that ticks most boxes against your own requirements and priorities.

EC 120 Maintenance plan
Hi, the ec120 is the bottom line of Aerospatiale Helicopters, the R66 is the top line of Robinson Helicopters, w. RR engine.
So in this forum one compares 4 cylinder mnf's with turbine pro's offering a wide range of turbine choppers, even to US Authorities ?
Thus, let's talk maintenance, ec120 schedule is :
15hrs by the pilot or approved person (can be the pilot)
500 hrs
1500 hrs
12000 hrs or 12 yrs
engine Arrius is scheduled at 0.033 Man*Hrs per flight hr.
That's it.
So, how many hours does it take to have to rebuld your R66 enterely ?
I personally know one CEO managing 51 EMS twin helis and a simu in Germany. They are currently replacing BK117 by ec142T2 (enhanced power & fenestron TR). They trust in EC's. Curious, or ??? For his pilors I mer, an ec120 is just a toy for rich private owners.
Regards, Herbert, France

To say the R66 is the Nissan of helis and the 120 is the BMW of helis is just wrong. When comparing a Nisson and BMW automobile, you could state the BMW handles better, rides better, is quieter, has far better performance and so on.
You simply cannot equate those facts to the R66 vs 120 comparison. Fly both ships, THEN make the comparisons.
IMO, the R66 far and away exceeds the 120 in nearly every category, save looks. The 120 is gorgeous and the R66 looks like a tadpole or sperm.
There is a distinct reason the 120 barely sells and the R66 has a long back order:
The R66 is clearly the better ship. There really is no comparison.
PS
I'm a 120 fan.

Re: Robinson Helicopter Co.
From Rotornut, Quote:
Depreciation (Negligible, freshly overhauled R66s are expected to sell for original costs)
Nonsense - would a potential buyer want a brand new aircraft or an overhauled used one with 2000 hours.
Rotornut,
The U.S. dollar weakens over time, while the price of an R66 rises. Thus Robinson's claims of nearly zero depreciation is correct.

When I was a kid, we had 8- half-crowns to the pound....they were called, in slang, "half a Dollar"...So, the Dollar was 4 to the pound.....now, it's considerably less than 2.
I think that what Robbo's weasel-wording infers, is the overhauled heli will sell for the same number of dollars as it did when new.......but inflation will have made a new one probably ~20% dearer.
A bit like arguing that an ancient, overhauled Cessna will fetch more dollars than it cost new.....but it's still a tarted-up old dog that is less than half the price (and value) of a brand-spanking new-un.
So, Advertising bollix.
Airborne trash 66
66 (Crapinson Flimsicopter) equated to a Nisaan, is just damn wrong the Nissan is a well made quality vehicle whereas the 66 is like a pile of plastic scraps, old newspapers, super glue, used match sticks & a lot of luck
Fly Safe, if You value Life then stay away from ALL Robinson paper mâché products
Fly a real machine instead, anything be it Bell to a Aerospatiel, but NEVER a RHC

I always thought "Crazy Ivan" was a submarine manoeuver from a Tom Clancy novel, but apparently not:
The Russians have landed in Middle Earth | TVShows | 3 News
R66 makes it around the world - that's quite impressive.
