Sunny Melbourne isn't quite up to exotic Nepal: but here are a couple of photos from my iPhone during a flight on Friday

High Arctic photos

Photos taken (summer time) in the Arctic Cordillera on the trip back from (Canadian Force Station) CFS Alert. Northern-most permanently inhabited settlement in the world.

Fijdor; startling topography, well done!

Could you elaborate just a little on what the Canadian Forces actually do at Station Alert? Also, in your second photo, what are the 'lines' on the ground please?

The lines in the second photo: if I remember 1970-vintage O-Level geography correctly (doubtful, I know) they'll be lateral and medial glacial moraines.

Here is a link that will explain what/where etc CFS Alert is. There is also "Eureka" 300 hundred some miles south of Alert. Lonely places.

A "Glaciologist" could explain the lines better but they are simply crevices in the glacier. the dark color comes from rocks, leftover from the movement of the glaciers.

Envy

I actually drool over this thread.
Fijdor I envy you that scenery & those landing possibilities. Is that flat top rock spire as flat as it looks? Is it ULA (unauthorised landing area) flat. Is it just me or do all chopper pilots look at a rock like that & think, "Jeez I'd like to try a landing on that"?
Smudge I envy that bright yellow thing on a stick poking out the front of your helo. Can I ask a very personal question? Are you a Dalek?
John, I notice Melbourne temps have topped Sydneys these last few days, what a hoot.
And the youngster in the Enstrom, I think I envy you the most. I recognised that faux timber grain console immediately. I went for a TIF in an Enstrom in Melbourne once. For an R22 pilot Enstrom autos are like a slow motion dream, "Throttle chop. Oh dear I suppose I should lower the collective soon, yawn."
Stunning pics all of you, congratulations.

Awesome pictures, you all!

@Spunk: Is that the Pallas?

By the way: When can I upload pictures? What do I have to do?

Long time fan of this thread; finally had some to post. Shot a TV ad in Tynemouth yesterday and we had this AS355 from Excel Charter loaded with a Wescam provided by Helicopter Film Services shooting some great stuff along the breakwater.

Stills hardly up to the standard of some of the stunning images earlier on in the thread but as some quick snaps between shooting stuff from terra firma I'm pleased with how they turned out. Would have loved to have had a 400 or 600mm though.
