Havoc,
I think the user name you really wanted was 'Hokum'.
Being fitted with a pilot ejection system, perhaps Mikael would have been happier dealing with you!!!
Command Eject Lever to 'Both', that way you don't get lonely!!!

While waiting for a reply from Havoc , PLEASE DO NOT confuse this "issue" with a GENUINE US Charity :
The Christian Foundation For Children & Aging, where their Sponsor Services department confirm that they have NO connection with,
and have never heard of a charity called the "Christian Foundation for Underprivileged Children"

EJECT ! EJECT ! EJECT !

As you all know this is a small industry. As a new CFI looking for a job I would not be involved in this if it was a scam, that would decrease my possiblities to get hired.

Oh Mikael - nearly forgot - while you're finding the answers to previous questions about funding issues etc. etc. can I make a suggestion ?
As you are the webmaster for the "World Record Helicopter Team" it might be nice to have some music playing in the background - Johans site USA Academy of Aviation has "Brothers In Arms" by Dire Starits - a fine piece of music
Can I suggest that the "World Record Helicopter Team" also has a track from Dire Straits - "Money for Nothing".
.... and then of course there's the other Web site that you are ALSO the Webmaster of -
the "Charity" one : Christian Foundation for Starving Children - how about some nice Dire Straits music there too -
How about "Once upon a time in the West"

Uwant -
I admire that principle even though I only have one "side" - I have no reason to direct my shovel in your direction
... and please don't get me wrong - I am all for charitable causes, Like I said in my first post :
If it turns out that this really is a genuine charity then I will probably make a donation directly to it, but I doubt I would give anything to the World Record Helicopter Team based on the information available at present, which, to sum up is :
1. An attempt to beat a previous record that has already been beaten.
2. Funding for the venture to be provided by "sponsors"
3. An increase of the funding needed already, from the amount reported last year - US $500,000 to US $600,000 ( +20% )
4. An apparantly delayed start from 2005 to August 2006
5. Questionable planning, pilotage and aircraft for the journey
6. Previous "Record breaking" ventures that broke no records :
Mike Pablo, contest and records assistant for the National Aeronautic Association in Alexandria, Va., said "the French Valley Airport duo did not actually break a record for transcontinental flying."
7. A very dubious "Charity" being used in an attempt to entice "sponsorship" with a promise that 70% of all donations will go to the charity.
8. The President of the "charity" is the Chief Pilot of this venture.
9. Other than the "Charity"'s own web site there appears to be no reference or record of it, it's work, or it's achievements anywhere else.
10.
These appear to be most of the facts known ( so far ).
I invite anyone to draw their own conclusions and offer no opinions of my own - yet !
Just waiting for answers now from Mikael and Havoc

Prejudices aside, and assuming this to be a genuine record attempt / charity fundraiser, then good luck to the team

I received the email from my step son who has recently became a flight paramedic. He flies on a King Air and ASTAR 350, and since the start of his employment I get numerous questions and "have you seen this" emails.
As far as moving away from the whole deal, never been close to it other then finding it interesting from my perspective. Alittle background I got to meet Burt Rutan in the early 80's and he talked about going round the world, one of the pilots I crewed with in B52s did a round the world flight from KI Sawyer AFB, and while teaching at Rucker the round the world flight helicopter stopped in (did not meet the pilots).
I will be even more selective with posts, hate the negative findings involves a helicopter pilot being some great accomplishments get over shadowed.
I think I will keep "Havoc" over Hokum, ten years on B52s was a good start to flying.

Havoc,
Thanks for clearing that up - no need to be selective about your posts - Without this one, a potential scam might never have been uncovered, or, if it all turns out to be genuine then it has had some excellent publicity - over 2100 "Views" of the thread so far !
All we need now is to hear again from Mikael - if he's sobered up after the birthday celebrations, or better still from Johan himself who must surely by now have heard that he is being discussed here

Like Dennis earlier in this thread, I thought SOH had the record. But a little bit of research turned up the fact that the FAI still consider Bower and Williams to be the round-the-world record holders - see fourth boxed entry on the current Absolute Record Holders page on the FAI website, Rotorcraft section - and here's why.
Some deeper digging on this page finds Simon Oliphant-Hope's record under the title
Speed around the world, Eastbound, without refuelling in flight : 88.9 km/h
and immediately below it is the Bower/Williams record called
Speed around the world, Westbound, without refuelling in flight : 91.76 km/h
and it is this record which is listed on the Absolute page.
Naturally, that called for more research! Bower's website here quotes 17 days: 6 hours: 14 minutes: 25 seconds. Then Oliphant-Hope's site here says 17 DAYS, 14 HOURS, 2 MINUTES, and 27 SECONDS
So, it seems like the claim that Bower is the current record holder is right. That was news to me, and judging by earlier entries on this thread, to others too. So, it's got to be the single engine record or the solo record (or the combination of both) that he holds....

I also noticed that on the S O-H's RTW record page Here
It is quoted as.....
No mention of the '96 westbound flight.
As the page does specify that...
Maybe after viewing the TAF, Johan has decided to head west....!
It is quoted as.....
The Record was previously held by an American pilot named Ron Bower who completed the trip in 24½ days in a Bell Jetranger on July 22nd 1994.
As the page does specify that...
On June 4th 2004 Simon Oliphant-Hope and the Eastern Atlantic Team commenced an attempt to smash the Around the World ‘World Speed Record’ in a helicopter routing eastbound .

Thus SOH is comparing his flight to the Bell 206 flight of 1994 and thus the absolute record still stands as the Bell 430 flight of 1996.
Perhaps Johan is targetting the late Steve Good's RTW flight? Steve had an N-reg 500D based in the UK and abided by the "cross all lines of longitude" rule then in place - I believe the "distance of at least the Tropic of Cancer" came in later.
That just meant going to the North Pole and flying round it....

... Do you really think that we will hear from Johan, or Mikael again ? -
It could make people believe their attempt is a scam if they don't reply
After all - This thread is all about their attempt to break a World record - whichever one it is !

his record stuff is all very boring. I wonder if I could claim a record for a flight with a female passenger of 102 years old, who was a very able soul who could identify the farms and properties of her friends and iwas very alert to the mechanics of the flight. Her first flight was a schedule flight at the age of 100, and intended to do a balloon flight for 103 birthdaytreat.
