his record stuff is all very boring.
Or is it a meer typo that should read This in which case - I quite agree
What is interesting, IMHO, is how this will all pan out, and whether we will ever find out for sure if Johan's World record attempt is genuine in it's "Charity" fund raising efforts, or whether, as many here have eluded to, it will turn out to be some sort of scam - preying on the generosity of those susceptible to stories of "poor freezing starving children" thereby raising funds for the venture, while the "Charity" doesn't benefit.
Time will tell - still waiting for a response from Mikael or Johan to allay the rumours

Hey guys come on - has anyone even bothered trying to contact the World Record Helicopter Team, to let them know this thread exists - so they can have their say ?
Fair enough - We've heard from someone that did their Web Site, but does the team know what's being said about them - I just sent an e-mail to their contact addresses to let them know.

Hi there,
Not sure if you know about this but there's a lot of talk about your World Record attempt being discussed on the internet on "Pprune" -The Professional Pilots Rumour Network.
Some of the guys there seem to think that it is all a scam, but it looks like no-one has asked YOU for YOUR comments so I thought I'd let you know about it, so you can add your own replies if you wanted to.
Have a good day.

Hi
Yes I have heard about it, and it does not bother me at all! As a christian man, i let Him handle it. He knows my heart, and He knows our purpose. Nobody get's anything from the Foundation, no salary, nothing. The only ones that the Foundation will pay is the Children of this world that really need's it. And their parents of course. Pastors will be able to call the Foundation and request help, and if the Foundation can help, they will. Well send an eighteen wheeler with a pastor and free bibles and hopefully 80.000 ton's of food. If anybody want's to come and check our paperwork they are welcome. The Foundation has nothing! until someone wants to sponsor our around the world event.
Thank you for your e-mail.

Do we really need another 80,000 tons of food, a pastor and a stack of free bibles unloaded onto the world's poor, frozen children? I mean, that makes as much sense as sending them an eighteen wheeler full of space heaters.
Having said that, I'm perfectly willing to believe that Mr. Nurmi has good intentions and a pure heart, and isn't trying to fool anyone but himself.

I think his PS rather seals the deal that it is a scam -
'Ps. Nobody is guilty until he has been proven guilty Ds'
Sounds more like - 'It's a fair cop but you'll never prove it'
Once someone starts using God as their defence you can be sure they are up to something bad.
Oh... and he needs to learn how to use apostrophes.

It seems that this "Charity" - the Foundation for Unprivilieged Children" has been around for a while....
Reading deeper into the World Record Helicopter Team web site,
on their own Records Page you can read all about their R22 venture which was the US Coast to Coast one that set off on January 23 2004.
The web page starts with :
The rest of the page is quite boring,
and the ONLY other reference to the "Charity" is where they had to wait at an airfield in Texas for weather to clear - It seems that after scrounging a free meal for their "Charitable" efforts, the Restaurant owners set up an interview wth the local radio station :
... and they even LENT ( not borrowed
) them their car to get to the radio station
NO mention of how much this venture raised for the "Charity".
NO mention of what was done with any cash that was raised.
So come on Johan, or Mikael - We know you read this thread -
HOW MUCH cash was raised from this venture for those "poor naked frozen children" ?
What specifically has been done with that cash ?
HOW MUCH was donated by your Sponsors : Sunstone International INC & Concrete Paving Contractors INC ??
You have stated
So what happened to the money that was raised ?

Well done NTD on getting those words of wisdom out of Mr Nurmi, which will no doubt restore any doubters' confidence.
Coco - great investigative job! However despite this being one thick skinned bird I think it's already dead, so it's pointless shooting at it any more on the charity issue.
Maybe now though there is another bit of public service PRRuNe could help with. Mr Nurmi apparently runs his USA Academy helo flight training school. Does not Johan's response to NTD indicate (a) a worrying reliance on Him for a successful outcome of anything, (b) a less than systematic, logical mind, and (c) a teeny worry that advance fees might not result in flight time in a servicable aircraft?
Anyone out there currently training/trained recently with USA Academy to vouch for its integrity?

Well send an eighteen wheeler with a pastor and free bibles and hopefully 80.000 ton's of food.
"Legal weight for an eighteen wheeler
The legal weight for an eighteen wheeler is 80,000 lbs. [40 tons].[ 36287 kg Canadian] That is without any oversize or overweight permits. In comparison, the average automobile weighs over somewhere around 5,000 lbs.
legal U.S. weight per axle is: STEER 12,000 lbs DRIVES 34,000 lbs TRAILER 34,000 lbs
legal Canada weight per axle is: STEER 5443 kg DRIVES 15422 kg TRAILER 15422 kg"
Source
Now then, with 80,000 tons of food, not including the pastor or bibles, that would put the vehicle 79,960 tons over the maximum legal weight.
GUILTY by admission!

Why not drop the 80,000 tons of food from a helicopter? You could drop the bibles too, but probably not the pastors. It looks like Johan's plans need to be worked out in a little greater detail. Anybody else have any suggestions on how we can get this done?

Hey "Rev." ( Must be careful with that abbreviation though with all this "Christian" Foundation stuff
... )
What a Fantastic idea, your insight into how to achieve this is phenomenal, you should be on Johan's team to help with the planning !
He's got to raise the money beforehand so he can use the 70% earmarked for "charity" to buy the bibles, food, water, clothing, medicine, Oh and don't forget the building materials, not to mention the pastors, and maybe even a few sets of worry beads ( he's going to need them ) and take them all along with him on the trip !
It still seems to be undecided as to the aircraft that Johan will use on this adventure - there have been reports of :
NC Times.com
World Record Helicopter Team Sponsor Package
and now, according to some other rumours I've heard he's planning to go round the round the World in a GAZELLE
Then there's the DC3 back-up plane, but you won't be able to fit much in that as it wil be crammed full of all the sponsors !
Perhaps they should consider other aircraft too ....
or this - could also come in handy when the 18 wheeler breaks down...
... anyone got any other ideas that can be fed through to the Planning Department at WRHT ??

a large, turbo-powered helicopter ---- possibly an AS350 Eurocopter, if Nurmi decides to buy one ----
... the World Record Helicopter Team will fly around the world in a Bell 430.

Of course if Johan does ever get this project off the ground, its pretty obvious that there won't need to be much Planning...
From the Christian Foundation for Unprivileged Children" web site :
If they have problems with weather forcing them to make unscheduled landings along the way,
they will even have their own personal Marshaller ...
I have it on good authority that "J.C." completed Ground School down at Johan's place,
and is eager to practice his newly acquired skills.....

Any more suggestions for the Team ?

To shed a little more light - the Christian symbol is a FISH :
... and I guess I always knew there was something fishy going on,
But now there's this : Johan Nurmi.com - not for the feint hearted !
.... anyone smell FISH ?
Edited to add

Rotorspeed :
No takers from anyone trained by the USA Academy of Aviation
I see where your're coming from with your suggestion :
however I don't entirely agree....
Ask any gunner and they'll tell you that even when there isn't a "Live" target to shoot at - you still need Target Practice !
So if it's all the same to you - I'm not quite out of ammunition yet
Even though this "Charity" bird appears to be dead - with HIM on his side who knows ??
Hey Spunk - back on Page 2 you said you knew Johan - anything else you can tell us ?

No I agree - I was wrong.
Haven't laughed as much with your and other recent postings on this for years! Totally underestimated the value to lift the spirits of shooting at Christmas turkeys, and agree, when He is able to achieve so much we shouldn't underestimate his ability for survival.
Good point on Spunk. He seemed to know a bit more about our Johan but seems to be keeping his head down. Can't believe it's to avoid that flak so come on Spunk, give us a clue!
