Well, I'm not the one to judge and therefore I won't.

All I can contribute is that I "know" Johan from his time being a CFI at "Hiser Helicopter Inc." (or was it "Hiser Aviation Inc." ) back in 1993.

When Hiser closed the doors Johan stayed in SoCal and worked for several companies as a CFI. To me it looks as if him and Monika continuously kept working on their goal and finally were able to start up their very own little business.

As far as all the news articles are concerned, come on guys, we've all been there: You say one word and the media turns it into an entirely different direction.

more information...

You guys can think whatever you want.

I got to know Johan when I flew with him at USA academy of aviation last June.
I heard that they were going to try to beat the record around the world in a helicopter. The record flight was going to be a fund raiser event for unprivileged kids.
Since you must be very rich to pay for a trip around the world in a helicopter by yourself, Johan had to find sponsors, just like the previous record flights had to find sponsors.

He had a hard time finding sponsors and had to find out something new inovative way to get the funds. I know how to make websites and I decided to help him.
We came up with the idea with a pixel page to sell parts of the website for advertizing. (The www.milliondollarhomepage.com is the original).
It has been a slow start and it is me, Johan and an other company that have bought advertizing space so far, but we hope for more advertizers as the traffic on the website increases.

As a webmaster of the www.worldrecordhelicopterteam.com I apologize if there is incorrect informaion about the current record. I will correct that as soon as possible. I will also add the story about Johans R44 flight coast to coast and back.

And to all those that think this is a scam:
As you all know this is a small industry. As a new CFI looking for a job I would not be involved in this if it was a scam, that would decrease my possiblities to get hired.
Johan as a business owner would not be involved in something that will give his company a bad reputation. If you don't think that USA Academy of Aviation exist, go up to French Valley, CA and look for yourself.

Helicopters is a great tool to help peolpe in need. This record attempt is meant to create attention to an increasing problem in the world and would give also give the helicopter industry positive attention.

Are people being asked for donations or sponsorship?

The donations on the 'buy a pixel' page on the website' are clearly to raise sponsorship money.

webpage link = http://worldrecordhelicopterteam.com...o_charity.php4

I don't understand the link saying 'donate_to_charity' and then taking you to a page designed to raise the $600,000 in order to make the trip in the first place.

(Does that include the type rating costs aswell!!!)

Please, when the record is only a year old, why does it say, "Each block takes us 1 step closer to beating the 10 years old record around the world in a helicopter. " ???

As coconutty suggested, I googled "Christian Foundation for Underprivileged Children".

Results 1 - 2 of 2 for "Christian Foundation for Underprivileged Children". (0.24 seconds)

About the helicopter record attempt to raise money for ...The World Record Helicopter Team has teamed up with the Christian Foundation for Underprivileged Children and is planning to have a fundraiser. ...

Just like mr. Nurmi, I have a favorite charity. It's the 'Foundation for the Advancement of Revolutionary Interests'. You can rest assured that not 30, not 70, but 100 percent of your donations benefit Revolutionary causes. This Christmas season the Foundation is looking to fund such items as a blender, the new Mariah Carey CD and either the George Foreman Grill or the Ron Popeil Chicken Rotisserie. Won't you help to reach these Revolutionary goals?

SCAM?

I really don't think it is; either that or they need to read up on successful scams, as this one doesn't stand a chance of making any money. Any pilot of experience will see that the whole idea doesn't stand a chance of success. In any case, even if the aircraft was flown around the world in record-breaking time, who would it be that got the recognition? Would it include the as-yet-undecided pilot who could handle the aircraft in cloud, or only the ones who were in the aircraft for the whole trip?
I seriously doubt these guys ability to cross Britain safely and legally. Mention is made of possibly using a Single Squirrel. Really? In IMC?
Please guys, go away and do your homework and then present us with a sensible proposition, because at the moment it looks as though you're making this up as you go along.
How about giving us the details of this charity? I'm not going to give you a penny, but if the charity is registered I will make a donation to it directly in order to compensate them for some of the credibility loss that they are no doubt suffering.

Lastly, your 'more about UAA' page shows a picture of someone 'relighting an R-22'.
Please be careful when approaching a previously lit helicopter, as it could be just smouldering. If in doubt cover it well in foam before approaching. Oh, and you might like to note that the tail rotor is not very flammable anyway; my preferred method is to start at the gascolator.

Not that I'm entirely convinced regarding the success with this venture/scam, but....
Mention is made of possibly using a Single Squirrel. Really? In IMC?
......What's wrong with a suitably equipped AS350 going IMC?

Remember, Simon Oliphant-Hope headed east in a MD500E!

.......OK, it had all the bells and whistles, but I'm sure he wasn’t victor mike 100% of the time.

However, you can rest assure that all chartable donations will be gladly accepted for my own circum-navigation attempt.
Not entirely sure of the final cost, but if sponsorship, oops sorry, donations are not forth coming; I'm willing to suffer the discomfort of Business Class, on the condition that the accommodation is 5*star!

.......... Muriel, get on to the travel agent, we're going on holiday....

The beater & UwantME2landWHERE!

I am certain that Simon O-H was not VMC all the time, but his MD500 is the ONLY single pilot IFR equipped and certified 500 in the world!!!!

His record has gotta take some beating!

Hi Guys,

Coconutty has been a digging

Here is the web site of the "Charity" set to benefit, potentially by millions of dollars from this :

Foundation for ???????

So is it the...
Christian Foundation for Underprivileged Children, or
Christian Foundation for Unprivileged Children, or
Christian Foundation for Starving Children ?

Either way - guess who is their "President" ??

Yep - Johan Nurmi - who also just happens to be Chief Pilot of "The World Record Helicopter Team"

Coconutty, great find! There are some real gems hidden between the biblical passages.

The Christian Foundation was started to feed the children, and make a difference in their lives
Talk about a broad objective!
The Christian Foundation For Starving Children is from God, it was inspired by Him, and made by Him
He started our Foundation and he will supply The Children of this world with all they ever need.
Well then, problem solved. You can call off the record attempt!
Our Foundation’s heart goes out to all the Children in the world that is hungry and does not have water. They lack proper clothing and many of them are sick
Rest assure that your donations will reach the needy, the hungry, cold, frozen, desperate small children
Awww, those poor, frozen children.

... and while no-one in their right mind would doubt that the Chief Pilot and Charity President are one and the same -
Here are there two locations :

"Christian Foundation for ......." - President - Johan Nurmi

and the "US Academy of Aviation"- Chief Pilot - Johan Nurmi

If anyone is passing by they could always take a closer look

( Edited for typo's )

Simons machine is the only single IFR 500 in the world and has all the bells and whistles that you could imagine; and is a great machine. Simon did an amazing job

I also have my doubts as anyone who was attempting the record seriously would contact the FAI and ask who holds the record so that they at least know what they are trying to beat; be a bit gutting to go round the world to find that you thought you had broken the record when you hadn't!

My views but maybe I am wrong...who knows sure we will soon see!!

Of course its a scam. Why SPEND the money to fly around the world, if your objective is to feed kids? The objective is to gain fame and a record. Rest assured, Tiny Tim won't get to say, "God Bless Us Every One!"

Nice find coconutty,

I had a look at the website myself.
Going through the links from the home page;

Home - took away the 'www.'
Fundraisers - HTTP 404
World Record Team - As it says!!
USA Academy - Johans gaff right?
Rotor and Wing - Who Johan has written for!
Sponsors - Dead Link!
Contact Us - No names, no contact details. Web based form.

Just struck me as a strange set of links for a charity dedicated to the underpriveliged children of America.

MikaelBotnen

And to all those that think this is a scam:
As you all know this is a small industry. As a new CFI looking for a job I would not be involved in this if it was a scam, that would decrease my possiblities to get hired.
May I suggest the Yellow and Black handle !

Rev, nice artwork!

I nearly overpitched my chair while trying to control my laughter!

This record-setting stuff looks so easy. I'm gonna borrow a Mini500 and set the around-the-world record for light helis. Anyone want to sponsor? Uh, it hasn't been done yet, has it??

Question

HAVOC :

Haven't seen an answer yet to a previous question about HOW you heard of all this :
I received this message and thought maybe it would be of interest to the group:
I see that you quickly distanced yourself from the project :
I am not in anyway associated with the groups listed.
Could you please let us all know exactly HOW you received the message ?

Was it from the "Team" soliciting you for funds, or what ?
It would be interesting to know as you started this thread
