Thanks for all the replys people.I know HAI can do the JAA course but any time I call they only seem interested if you wanna spend alot of cash, not interested in short courses.I sent a friend of mine there recently to do JAA PPL and they fobbed him off saying they didn't have time but asked was he willing to do the the full JAA CPL and if so to enroll ASAP !!!
To bad money and profit is the main game there but I guess its just a business to them.Otherwise good training I believe .......??
Any schools in UK that anybody can recommend ?

These days HAI seem to be more interested in JAA and Military Contract students (maybe HAI know the J1 scheme can't last forever?). That's where the money is. I have heard its not uncommon for FAA students to take 11-14 months just to get a IR, CPL & CFI ratings. A good standard of training, but I think the school is way too busy these days.

instructor hiring time ??
I know spring is considered the best time for instructor hiring in the US.
Are we talking a specific month being better than any other, ie March vs April ?
I figure Feb is too early, and am wondering if April is too late ??
Been delayed and looking ahead...
Cheers,
Blue.

best hiring month...
I wouldn't think so.... if you look at the job sites there are being instructors hired throughout the year on a fairly constant rate.... little slower in winter time.
In April a lot of instructors start flying tours in Alaska, Grand Canyon, Vegas etc so there might be a little better chance but I wouldn't plan it that exact... having a CFII rating will get you a job very quick anywhere.

HAI has been around for a while. They also have an operation in Concord, California or at least bought it. So far as I hear they have a good reputation.

Students sue helicopter school
From the Montana Standard
Former students sue Butte helicopter school
Four former students are suing the local helicopter flight school claiming their flight training never got off the ground.
The former students want most of their tuition back, alleging Silver State Helicopters, which holds flight training at Bert Mooney Airport, didn’t have enough helicopters to accommodate them.
An attorney for the flight school dismissed the lawsuit as “outlandish” and they plan to fight it.
The suit, filed in Butte district court, accuses the company of promising students about 175 hours of flight training in about 12 months. Attorney Robert Bell, who represents the former students, said the school only had one helicopter when it started in January 2005 and 45 students.
“There was no possible way to graduate in 12 months,” Bell said.
Six months into the program, the four students had either no flight training or just a few hours, according to court documents. When the students dropped from the class, the school still charged them half of their $42,738 tuition, Bell said.
The students believe they received about $3,000 to $5,000 worth of training.
Attorney Donald Robinson, representing Silver State, said the suit is just the ravings of “disgruntled ex-students.” Robinson said the school plans to defend its reputation in court.
“This is a very legitimate and first-class organization,” Robinson said.
Silver State is headquartered in North Las Vegas, and has 19 flight academies located throughout the western United States.

Sad thing about it....Silver State seems to be able to get away with it. Sadder yet is the banks that loan the money to the youngsters also get away with it. Saddest part is, so many youngsters are unable to see the risks involved and have to repay the loans they are getting.
A very similar case occurred in Florida years ago....and after all the money was safely spent, lost, misplaced, hidden, or otherwise unable to be recovered, the flight school in question declared bankruptcy and the students lost their money but still were confronted with repaying the loans.
I know one of the folks who used to be involved in this Silver State thing and if he is typical of the outfit, I would not touch the place with a very long barge pole.
To those who are shopping for flight schools....if the school provides a discount for paying in advance, pay for a small block of hours at a time, NOT the full course. Any Training contract that contains a pay in full in advance clause and a penalty for withdrawing from the course (50% in the case of the outfit being mentioned) RUN AWAY BEFORE SIGNING THE CONTRACT!
There are plenty of reputable schools. Shop around and get references from them. Make sure you read every single word of the contract....especially that small print you can barely see.
The SSH web site makes for some interesting reading. Pure Snake Oil as I see it.

Jetranger Rating in Santa Rosa, CA?
Sorry if this has been asked before. Tried the Training / America thread but started to lose the power of sight after 10 pages.
Can anyone recommend a school in the Santa Rosa, California area for a Jetranger rating?
Thanks in advance.

I donīt think that you can get a JetRanger "rating" in the US? I stand to be corrected if proven wrong!
However you can be "checked out" in JetRangers there Donīt know any schools in the area though. Sorry about the hihjack, just thought you should know if you didnīt
Just to inform non-JAA members: In JAA land all helicopters require you to have a (type) rating in your licence for each helicopter type. And a annual proficiency test is required for each and every type with a flight examiner.
