I do not have a JAA CPLH, all i have is a JAA PPLH and i am currently hour building up to 150 hours. I want to go over and do my FAA ratings and hopefully stay in the US. If i have to come back to the UK i will then take my JAA CPLH and ATPL ground school.

I am after some good reccomendations for quality, real life training. As you can all understand i have got to be 100% sure where im going with the vast sums of money i am going to be spending.

Thanks again,

R22

Be warned, a friend of mine is at a highly regarded central Florida school. Students are taking almost twice as long as expected/quoted to complete the FAA courses as the school is too busy. PPLs are taking around 4 months, IR 4 months, and CFI 3-4 months. That's a long time if you are doing it "full time".

Hi People,

Have any of you been to Plam Beach helicopters to do any training?

Im thinking of doing my CPLH, Instrument, CFI and CFII with them. Any Comments would be greatly appreciated.

do they offer the j1 visa? if not, and you're not a USA citizen, then you will NOT have the ability to work in the USA after doing your FAA licences

Hi I am to thinking of doing my commercial licence out at palm beach helicopters because they were recomended by a friend

I looked into it and if I was going to go I would be looking at moving out there for good as I have no real ties here.

I was told that the job oppertuinities out in the Carribean are very good.

Can anybody with first hand experience give me some advice

schools in Florida .. .some thoughts

I've been working in South Florida for over 2 years now and have some friends dealing with Heli Flight, Volar, Palm Beach, Pompano Helicopters etc.

Being a UK citizen you will need a J1 visa if you want to build time here in the US. Only Heli Flight can (could?) issue those but from what I've heared in the previous weeks they lost their ability to do so. Make 100% sure to check that they don't tell you bull**** if they say they can. I know of several students lined up waiting for their paper work because of that. Usually it takes only a few days for them to send you the paper work you have to take to the embassy after you wire them the fee.

Over all the most important part for you is to pick a good instructor... regardless which school.
I'm not a Schweizer fan but you also could consider Helicopter Adventures ... I'm sure you could get some info on those guys as well from someone here at the forum. They can issue the J1 visa as well.

You will hear good things and bad things about each place... looking back for me always important was to fly with a good instructor.

commercial jobs opportunites for J1 holders with low-time are extremely rare. you might get some powerline patrol work or some photos flights, but most of the work is instructing.

Gooseboy check your PM's

Im hearing HAI is now becoming a misfortune of its own success. Too many students and not enough instructors to get regular flying time.

Shame, i heard it was one of the best.

License Conversions & Training For The States

Heya pplz, I am currently undergoing training for CPL heli in New Zealand and am really keen on getting into the states-like every1!
I have heard that an option to gaining entry to the states could be stopping short of gaining my CPL here and finishing training in the states. Am unsure of the exact in and outs but is this possible? My idea was to sign up 2 a training org, finish training, and possibly do a CFI and get a visa (J1) through them.
Does this work? are there any catches??
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

Copterin,

you can only fly at a school that is accredited to issue the J1 visa.

At present the only scools that offer the J1 are:-

Helicopter Adventures in Florida
Hillsboro Aviation in Oregon

Hope this is of some help!

Hi, I don't know about schools in Colorado but I think you can train on the M1 visa anywhere, although that visa doesn't allow you to do the hour building the J1 does, going to a J1 school lets you do the hour building but to qualify I believe you can have no more than a PPL and 50 additional hours. Hope that helps

There are two helicopter schools that operate out of Jeffco Airport in Broomfield, CO. Broomfield is about 15-20 min NW of downtown Denver. Premier Helicopters operates Robinsons and and Rotors of the Rockies operates Schweizers and a B206. Both are good schools, just be careful on the High DA days in the summer.

Hope this helps,

USA Training

My dear Copterin

Anything is possible and a J1 Visa is certainly a way of gaining entry to the US market for 2 years. Take a look at Helicopter Adventures Inc based in Titusville, Florida and have a browse, you should find the J1 Visa page useful. If you like what you see, a phone call or an e-mail to HAI will answer your queries directly but I would establish that the school can offer you a place and meet your requirements before stopping your CPL training in NZ.

Good luck.

Heli Flight Training in the USA.

Does anyone know anything about or recommend a Helicopter Training School in

Atlanta, Georgia.
Columbia, South Carolina.
Baltimore, Maryland.
Tucson, Arizona.

Going to the USA to live in 1 of these 4 states and need a good school for training.

Cheers.
