R22 dual rates avg. US$220 per hour, H300 similar or $10 more. B47 will also probably come in at $200 or more dual.

For the CFI rating, you'll need to sit 2 written tests (Fundamentals of Instruction and CFI [basically a rehash of the commercial] and pass the practical test [oral and flight test]

To instruct in an R22 in the US, you'll need at least 200 hrs tt helicopter and 50 in Robinsons [25 in R22] and have attended the Robinson Factory Safety Course in Los Angeles [well worth the $350 or so price!]

As mentioned previously, the J-1 will probably not be an option, but try HAI, Hillsboro and the few other J-1 approved helicopter flight schools and see what they say.

If you have a degree and related work history in a specific field and you think you may be able to find a US sponsor company, ask an immigration attorney about the H1-B.

Good luck

By the way a quick question:

If you have a H1B you are able to work, but are you able to train for a CPL?

From my last query to a US embasssy, if you are not a legal permanent resident, you will need a M1 or J1 visa to be able to train toward a CPL or higher licence in the US. Even if you have already another type of non immigrant visa...

Was it a local interpretation of the rules (like the differenf FSDO answer on some FAA regulations), or do you confirm from other place either ?

Angel Boatpix

Hey Guys,

Im UK based but considering going out to the States to get my commercial heli license. I have been looking at the Boatpix heli flight training school but cannot seem to find feedback from anyone as to whether they found the school satisfactory or not.

If anyone has had heard about peoples experience or has trained with this school, could they please enlighten me with some feedback good or bad.

Thanks,

Sparko

good news and bad news

The timebuilding options are true, and there's a steady stream of newly-hatched photographer pilots going through the program; 1000 hrs in 1 year is common.

The training is OK, there have been complaints it takes second seat to photos, certainly there is a much smaller student body than the pilot factories like HAI.

For more, let's go off forum. PM or email?

To the best of my knowledge:
- 300 in Westchester (Wings Air)
- 500, the closest would be in Lancaster, PA (Lancaster Helicopters)

Never flew with any of them.

Flying in New York / White Plains

I have to make two separate trips to NY in January, with the Sundays free.

Anyone out there know of an organisation with an R44 / B206 (plus instructor) available for hire for an hour or so for a tootle round the area ? I've got a US ticket based on my UK one so I don't think there's any implication with the TSA since it's not training.

PMs or posts - either will be fine.

NY flights

Hi,

I regularly fly around NY (tours, private flying...).To the extent of my knowledge there are 3 places you can rent from:
- Pegasus lobal Helicopters, based in Linden (www.pegasus-flight.com). I usually fly from there, I love it. R-22 and R-44 available. Linden is 1/2hr fro Penn station by train.
- Nassau Helicopters down in Princeton. Very nice as well but a bit further away. By train and taxi it is a good 1.5 to 2hr trip. R-22, R-44 available and B206 as well. (www.nassauhelicopters.com). I dont think they let the 44 for self rent, and certainly not the 206.
- Wings air (www.wingsairllc.com) in Whiteplains. Schweitzer 300 and B206. I don't know about they rental policy.

Also, some of the charters/tour companies do some adhoc training but it's only longranger or EC-130, a bit expensive. Never used them so I can't make a recommendation

PM me if you want more info on the above.

AirLog hires a lot of their graduates, and all the pilots I have met seems to be very well trained.

I have actually posted this on behalf of a friend, and from everything i have read to date on training on pprune has said beware of overly cheap deals.

And to me this seems overly cheap.

Just how many of their pilots actually end up working in the GOM?

Kinda interested myself, as trying to work out next step for myself.

I believe they are in USA, Louisiana???(sorry for the spelling).

Can any recent HAI graduate answer this for me?

Hi,
I'm planning on doing HAI's JAA/FAA CPL(H) later this year. What I want to know is, do I end up with a JAA licence issued by the CAA in the UK, or an FAA one that I can then apply to the CAA for replacement with a JAA one.

My reason for asking is this: There's a paragraph somewhere in Lasors which states that a non-JAA licence converted to a JAA one will state the original non-JAA country on it, and though it will be accepted within the state of re-issue (i.e. the UK) it may not be by any other JAA member states. (At their discretion.)

So, would the licence attained at the end of HAI's joint JAA/FAA CPL(H) course fall into this bracket, where I might have a legal JAA licence that may not be valid elsewhere within the JAA, or does the CAA's endorsement of HAI protect me from this?

Cheers,

Si

P.S. Class 1 Med in two days... *parp*..
