I guess that Shell needs back up helicopters when Dancopter leaves Nigeria, and Caverton can't deliver the transport needed with the 6 AW139 they have bought. But they have as far as I have been told been pretty satisfied the last 20 months, soon to be changed.....

Shell has a contract with Bristow for their Citation executive jet. Interesting when Caverton also has a fixed wing division. I wouldn't think Bristow would be interested in working for Shell in Nigeria after their previous experience and having just lost the SNS contract to DanCopter.
The joker in the pack at present are CHC who will likely get their AOC again soon with new Nigerian partner Jagal after their mutually disastrous partnership with Aero Contractors.

It would seem that there are still huge profits to be made in Nigeria by helicopter operators otherwise why, after all the 'disaster' stories, logistical issues, corruption etc., that we hear about, they still seem desperate to work there.

SHELL audit
It appears Shell is satisfied with the PAAN fixed wing operation mate. After spending 5 days with their auditors proved beneficial for both sides. They were very professional and steadfast. I suppose the S92 may have sparked a new relationship with Shell - let's get this sorted!!

Has anybody heard more about the DanCopter EC155 in Nigeria which supposedly flew through a cu-nimb a few weeks back and did severe damage to the head and transmission? If there's any truth to the rumour, Shell must be less than happy, with their prohibition on flying in the vicinity of thunder clouds
Caverton have just lost their Director of Operations to CHC and sadly, Dave Allen is very sick. Their former Head of Flight Operations on the Shell project has also resigned, so I guess it's not all happiness and light.

Don't believe everything you hear MP. Caverton released a safety alert on this and the aircraft was clear of cloud when the turbulence struck and nothing untoward showing on the wx radar. The only damage was to the blades, which were replaced.

What's the latest on the DANA crash....any truth to the rumor ithe aircraft had a dual engine failure and had been put back into service over objections of the Lagos Station Manager?
Does Bristow use DANA for crew changes?

SASless,
I'm sure you're aware that there is only (mostly uninformed) speculation as to the cause of the crash at present. In the past the old Dana didn't have a very good record for engineering standards and I don't think that has changed. However, I hear that the new management is much more aggressively pushy than the old.
Bristow is not allowed to use Dana and I believe that the airline has been totally grounded on the orders of Dr Demuren, the Director General of the NCAA (stables, doors, bolted ..... )

From Dr Demuren.........Dana Plane Crash - Both engines failed before the crash - Pilot Africa News
Sounds like the ADC or whatever that airline was in my day.....with the aircraft that had a regular Compressor Stall on the one engine.....that never seemed to get fixed. I always wondered if that played a role in the crash they had.
The flight from Calabar to Lagos was always a roll of the dice to me. When ACN got into the fixed wing airline business....the standards certainly went up over the ADC crowd.
With the report of both engines quitting....and a slow pace to the post trash fire.....doughnuts to dog droppings they ran out of fuel. Just a guess but that has been the story in the past in Nigeria.

Fire at Calabar
Rumours this morning of a substantial fire at the Bristow/Addax base in Calabar yesterday - possible fatalities and the facility destroyed. Anybody got any info on how it started, what happened etc?

Fire at Calabar
The fire was caused by a fuel tanker was driving down the hill at Marina Beach Road, having just uplifted fuel. The driver lost control on a corner for whatever reason, rolled over and the fuel caught fire but stopped just short of the Bristow facility at the base. It's believed that 1 person died and 11 were injured in the fire and 20 cars were destroyed. There were no Bristow staff injured and air operations continue from Calabar airport as usual.
