What's New In W. Africa (Nigeria)
Yep - true story!
I know why I did in mine....what did the Guv do to deserve that kind of Electronic Warfare attack?
SASless,
If I remember it correctly the AQM forgot he left the portable in-between the floats and aircraft frame and it fell off when returning to Osubi. Could have landed everywhere but luck had it just fell off overhead the Guv’s house
I'm sure 212man will correct me if I'm wrong

EC 155, I really think the best thing you can do, is to send an email to Caverton HR. And yes they still operate Shells EC 155, and will for at least another year or two, or three, or.... since the replacement of the 6 + 3 EC155 with the 6 AW 139 is taking time and is not enough. So yes there is still work for pilots without a 139 TR.
My guess is that they need at least 3-5 additional AW139, if Caverton wants to operate one type only for the Shell contract. And they will need technical and operational support. The advanced AW is way above their own standard, but as I wrote some weeks ago, this helicopter type was Shells choice not Cavertons.
Everett Aviation in Tanzania on a 6/6 was also looking for EC155 pilots 1/2 year ago: [email protected]

A small Motorola sized patch was applied to the roof shortly afterwards.
I always wondered at the lack of fixed FM Radio in the Shell 212's - even after a gazillion years, communication with landing sites relied on the AQM with a hand held FM talking over the cabin noise!

Anyone taking wagers on how long Caverton keeps the Shell Contract?
I say 3 months.....then they will be out with the garbage!
I guess the good Rev would say that it was "Manna from Heaven" as to the Radio landing on his pillow that day! A real gift from God!

Could be right there SAS, but I think they last longer....
It only went well as long as they had their so called inferior Joint Venture partner Dancopter to do the job. But now the Vikings are loaded with the Shell SNS, Maersk and the DONG contracts.
Half of the 139ers are grounded, must be expensive and SNEPCO I guess must be quite unhappy about it.....
For Caverton its no wahala

I say 6 months and Bristow are back, or maybe CHC if the politicking can be overcome and they get their AOC.
Perhaps we need to do a Roll Call of our posters from Nigeria....and make sure they are all present and accounted for!
You still out there Grffo....Trogs.....?

I doubt Bristow would want to go back while the contracting company still has that arrogant attitude. Bristow are in the business of making money not accepting losses for the sake of retaining a contract.
Good luck to Caverton and DanCopter - we will see how long the rose tinted spectacles last !

This is not new....but I did find the Accident Report very interesting reading.
The one thing that sort of jumped off the page at me was the opinion given by the Accident Investigator re simulating an engine failure in the Bell Jet Ranger by "....shutting off the fuel cork......".
Me thinks he means the Fuel Valve Switch.
I can imagine a Check Captain "Switching Off....the Hydraulics" but somehow I think anyone that would shut off the fuel to the engine at 60 Knots and 200 feet AGL over the "Bush".....to simulate an engine failure might just be erring on the side of realism in what should be a training situation.

Training Captain?
Igwebike was actually working for Bristow Eket at the time and believed rightly or wrongly that his ATP gave him training privileges. Since he had a current NCAA licence including 206 he may have received a clearance to carry out the check. He was on leave at the time of the accident and AFAIK had no previous experience of carrying out training of any kind
I seem to remember that we had an incident involving a massive overtorque of the main transmission on a 212 shortly before his demise when he and his co pilot denied any knowledge of the event even though the "creep marks" told a very different tale and had been inspected just prior to him taking the helicopter.
This is an old one - SASless me old "cork" are you cleaning out your loft? (or is it Den in your neck of the woods?)
