Anything from TUI recently?

Any updates? I did the application on the second wave , avarage score and I'm 37 . I know it would be a miracle to pass the next stage but I'm still hoping , would be great to know if you guys have received anything yet and if you have any updates from TUI. Cheers

Nothing further on TUI for me.

Sadly fell at the final hurdle for the Leading Edge one - still to get to the final 24 ain't too bad - all the best to those that made the final cut, well done!!

Hoping for some feedback from LEA, although I know my interview let me down - Flustered on a couple of questions and generally not as prepared as I should have been I think! Still - on to the next opportunity!

I have to say, I may not know you personally but through this thread you have held yourself to a high standard and you are clearly competent if you’re getting to the final stage of such a competitive scheme.

I wish you all the best in your training/career

Well done for doing an application on the second wave. I'm 34 and I know that the idea of doing this is completely life changing but you want it so badly that you just go for it! I applied as soon as I could in the first wave and achieved an average of average scores on the tests. I don't want to speak for TUI or anyone else's interpretation but it looked to me like getting to the next phase is based on your interview, which they are currently reviewing. The last correspondence I recieved said that they expected to have reviewed those interviews by mid March. I hope that helps. I'm sure we'd all dearly love some news (it being such an exciting opportunity) but I think it's the patience game for now. Best of luck!

Seeing her in this situation made me quite apprehensive, and for that reason decided not to Persue it. I then went on to travel for three years or so; it’s really ironic because where I worked over in New Zealand, was next to the airport where l3 students would fly Into, so it kept me in the loop so to say.

anyway, fast forward, I’ve just got onto my first year course, I’m halfway through it. I’m doing it because I had too, the only subject I ever enjoyed doing was maths. So that’s what I’ve gone and done. Little to my knowledge, I hadn’t really heard much about skyborne and l3, and how their courses now are only around 100,000; and you can get about 40k knocked off. Anyway, I was on flight sim a few months ago and my mum comes up to watch me, she says do you really want to do this flying. I said to be honest, yes trying to hold back emotion because all I do is dream about being a pilot.

so, we have a talk, she says well let’s be serious and get it sorted . She’s happy to remortgage/sell her second house - we only need £60,000.

i now have a confirmed place at an ATO on an integrated program, and couldn’t be happier.

my advice for you is, only you know what you really want to do. People have different hurdles, mine was the funding, but I sat with my mum and we talked about it. Figure out what your hurdles are, and try and talk and overcome them.

I’m not going to lie, having a degree is a good thing, a lot of the ATO’s offer degrees with their course, so why would I continue with the Bsc in Maths. I’m not motivated enough; I knew either way, no matter what age I’d always aim to be a pilot, I’d have to use inheritance. Knowing all I wanted to do was become a pilot, made me so unmotivated to do a Bsc degree in something other that pilot training.

anyway bro, do what you gotta do - a lot of people say go get a degree in whatever it’ll look good - of course it will, but for people like us who aspire to be pilots it’s different. A huge part of uni is motivation to study, and passion for the subject - If you don’t have it, you will fall back.

I need to know what job your mum was doing to be able to afford a 2nd home as a “low income single parent”. Clearly not all “low income single parent households” are created equal.

Well I'm here to discuss the LEAP and TUI schemes. You won't get any judgment from me on who you are and I personally don't think anyone should feel bad about the background they are from, whatever that is. We all have our own things. I'm happy to chat on here and try and support anyone (where I can); whoever they are and wherever they are from. I love aviation and the idea of being in it and relish talking to anyone who feels the same.

Im in a similar situation, it’s nice to know there are others in the same boat! Currently looking at integrated programs, mainly CAE and L3. Just curious about you comment about 40k being knocked off the price, haven’t heard of this, do you know how or why you can get it knocked off? Thanks.

Well done for getting so far mate! I know how you feel but I also felt somewhat good for getting as far as I did. It's a good learning process if nothing more for the future!

I believe the 40k 'Knocked off' is referred to as being supplied from a students loan. So it's not actually a saving as such because you owe the loan.

For example, from Skybourne's website

''the full Skyborne/UWL BSc (Hons) programme could be entitled to up to £22,200 in tuition fee loans and a further £19,412 in maintenance loans to support their living costs over two years. With the addition of the £10,000 Skyborne Bursary to support their final course payment, this could mean an estimated £50k of funding may be available of the £99,500 programme, to support the course fees and living costs.'

Social worker 32k ish a year? Mortgaged and ex council house for around 15,000 pounds I think probably in 70s/80s her parents lived in it until their death in 2009. Have been renting it out ever since. Recent valuations go as high as 130,000£. A very sensible investment for myself and my sister

I think someone already replied the correct info.

basically - the course fee is 104,000ish - you do a two year degree alongside at UWL. The tuition fee for this course is 11,200 per year I think so 22,400 total. They only take 3000£ out of this so students receive 22,400-3000 in the form of grants through the duration. You can also access a maintenance loan, mine being almost maximum - I have access to over 18,000£ over the two years.

like he mentioned, you have to pay this back - but if you need it - a student loan is the best loan you can get. You pay it off through your wages like an extra bit of tax - only start paying at back after a certain salary threshold - and is written off after a certain amount of years.

having access to this student finance brings my total payment of the course to be only 69,000ish — of course the other 30grand has to be paid back to Student finance, but not like a normal loan. This was game changing for my situation

They both have their pros and cons. Most people aren’t fortunate enough to be in a position where they can get a loan against a parents house to pay for training or even to just remortgage and access that money. That said, if you’re fortunate enough to be in a position you can do this, it can be a good way to go about things and probably gets you a seat in the front years earlier than by a modular route, which is all career progression within an airline IMO.

That said it isn’t an option for most, and modular also has its pros as well. You get to enjoy the flying a lot more while you’re building, and get more life experience whilst working alongside it. It’s a shame there isn’t a degree scheme that works alongside the modular route to be honest. Access to 2/3 years of student finance whilst going the modular path would be game changing for someone in my situation, particularly given you follow pretty much the same syllabus!

first time I’ve heard £32k being described as ‘low income’. That’s pretty much the average UK salary. Not amazing, but definitely not ‘low income’. Definitely a privileged position to be in that most people would kill for. And if you think £32k is low then you’re in for a shock when you start applying for jobs as a newly minted pilot 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Come on, Will66 put information on here about how others can move forward with the same kind of circumstances. I think it is unfair to mock anyone's background or outlook. That's not why we are here and absolutely no one's financial background should have a bearing on their suitability to be a pilot.
I get that some poeples low income is different to others and it can be frustrating but please don't mock someone for their honest comments. We all have the same goals and we are all just finding a way to try and make it happen. I wish you the absolute best with any route you manage to pursue along with everyone else on here

I think you’re right! Don’t tell student finance tho, It really does help being put into the single parent low income bracket as I get maximum loan. in terms of the house, I’m very privileged! Never said I wasn’t, I’m sure I said without it I wouldn’t be able to do this. I will forever be in debt to my mums smart decision to buy and mortgage her parents ex council house 🙏🏼
