They both have their pros and cons. Most people aren’t fortunate enough to be in a position where they can get a loan against a parents house to pay for training or even to just remortgage and access that money. That said, if you’re fortunate enough to be in a position you can do this, it can be a good way to go about things and probably gets you a seat in the front years earlier than by a modular route, which is all career progression within an airline IMO.

That said it isn’t an option for most, and modular also has its pros as well. You get to enjoy the flying a lot more while you’re building, and get more life experience whilst working alongside it. It’s a shame there isn’t a degree scheme that works alongside the modular route to be honest. Access to 2/3 years of student finance whilst going the modular path would be game changing for someone in my situation, particularly given you follow pretty much the same syllabus!
