WANNABE PILOT - what to do???

Hi Every1
Ive just graduated and want to become a pilot (commercial). I was wondering if you know of any sponsorships currently available for some1 without any flying experiance. If not, do you know of any banks with which I could get a career loan or somit similar. Any advice for a novice wannabe pilot will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ali

Hey ali,
There are a few sponsorship deals out there, but nowadays you still have to pay your own way unfortunately. The one I've just seen advertised is with flybe. Here's the link with the info.
http://www.flighttrainingeurope.com/...campaign&id=7#
Try to do as much research as you can. You've started at the correct place, lots of people will give you ideas but in the end it's whats best for you.
Personally I went the modular route, flying when I could, paying most of my flying with my wages. It takes a lot more time this way but I managed to save money and get to where I am now.
It's a massive step to take but worth it. My main advise would be to spend time planning your training then dive straight in, it's a great place to be!!!

Try searching the forums before asking a question. There's plenty of information right here. Otherwise, try www.ctcaviation.com which is about as close as you can get to a sponsorship at the moment.

I'm new to this forum and I know this is probably the wrong thread but maybe somebody can guide me. I live in Toronto Canada and I was looking for some sporsorship to get my CPL and I know about CTC but unfortunatly they are in the UK (by the way I sent my information already) so I was wondering if theres anything similar to CTC in Canada or USA? If somebody know about this stuff please let me know thank you

Arrow How to get started

Hello, i'm new to this forum nice to meet you all

I am very interested in becoming an airline pilot and whilst doing research stumbled upon this forum. Have read all the guides and websites dedicated to the career (BALPA, GAPAN, etc) and consulted our career advice at school (connexions).

I am 16 years old in secondary education, taking GCSE exams in May. Have good grades, ask if you need details. Taking these subjects in college when it starts in Sep: Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Applied Business.

Basically my question is, are there any stages I can take now to get the ball rolling? My goal is to become an airline captain but I do not have the funding for private lessons. Sorry if this question seems general, I will give more details if needed.

Thankyou very much

- Rikesh

aviation is a very expensive career to get into, if you can't afford private lessons your only left with trying the airforce....but thats very difficult to get through but if you do, you'll be straight into the right hand seat in no time.

also try the search button

Based on the assumption that you have never flown an aircraft before, these are the two things that I would suggest you do for starters.

1.) Have a short, trial lesson. Get yourself behind the controls of a small aircraft and you'll soon know if that's the job for you.

2.) If you enjoyed the flight and want to progress then get yourself a Class 1 medical. This will determine whether or not you can actually commence the commercial training and is definately worth getting before paying for any training.

As for funding for your PPL training, have a look at the Air League and GAPAN websites. They both other a range of scholarships and bursarys for flight training. The Air League gave me a 15 hour scholarship, which was obviously a great help for funding.

Good luck

Cheers,

Apologies, I did search but to be honest still wasn't sure what I should do at my age.

I am going to book an introduction lesson at Leicester Airport. Anyone been through this before?

Also, when applying for RAF scholarship will they only consider those who want to serve in the RAF, rather than be an airline pilot?

Thanks again

Recommedations

I have done what you are about to do.

I can HIGHLY recommend Flight Safety International, Vero Beach, FL !

Thereafter you should can do the ATPL long distance learning, with Oxford or Bristol GS.

Followed by some flight training, CPL-ME,IR

Sounds easy but it will take a lot of EFFORT.

Good luck !

This forum is full of help, best advice is to go out and do your research and then come back here and ask questions if you dont understand certain points...

Here is the best place to start

http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=131649

I can pretty much asure you, read it, and you wont have too many questions after...

Another thing, there are no true scholorships around really, the best places to look at CTC Wings and the mentored pilot schemes offered by Cabair, OAT and FTE...

I think from time to time people like atlantic might offer things close to scholorships, where you are binded to work x years with them before your released to go and work for an airline...

So really, any way you look at it you either need to go and earn a large quantity of cash or go and borrow it, as your looking 30k at least, i think 45k modular and 65k integrated are pretty realistic figures, thats without bringing tr's into it, they could set you back another 20k or so with some line training, but thats really another story...

As an ATC member you should have heard about the Air League. Google it and apply for whatever you can from their range of scholarships. Will at least get you flying or involved in the flying community.

If you're enjoying the 6th form hang on in education for a while - go to Uni.

Daughter wants 2 fly!!!

HELP!!
My daughter, age 15, would like to become a commercial pilot. Dad is a humble PPL, who has encouraged her to take up flying as a career......am I wrong, coz it really is the best seat in the aircraft!! How should she go about applying for flight training? Should she go to Uni to study wattever? I suggested Avionics or Mech. engineering, neither of which takes her fancy.
Is there some " direct entry" course with, say, BA, or Virgin, which might facilitate her "Left Seat"??
Thnx,
Nikko.
