Based on the assumption that you have never flown an aircraft before, these are the two things that I would suggest you do for starters.

1.) Have a short, trial lesson. Get yourself behind the controls of a small aircraft and you'll soon know if that's the job for you.

2.) If you enjoyed the flight and want to progress then get yourself a Class 1 medical. This will determine whether or not you can actually commence the commercial training and is definately worth getting before paying for any training.

As for funding for your PPL training, have a look at the Air League and GAPAN websites. They both other a range of scholarships and bursarys for flight training. The Air League gave me a 15 hour scholarship, which was obviously a great help for funding.
