Hour Building
Hello friends!
I will finish my atpl theory in 4 months, and I would like doing hours building in UK to improving my english.
But I wish working too in a bar, restaurant or other, so I think flying some hours only week ends.
But I don't know where doing hours building : FTO or Flying clubs ?? What is the difference ?
So could you tell me where I can find ALL list of flings clubs or FTO please ?
If I must flying few hours with an instructor at the beginning, do you think these hours can be used for CPL ?
sam

Lovejoy, that is not a complete answer at all.
Sam, the thing about hour-building is that you can do it absolutely anywhere. It can be with a flying school or club (FTO really is just another word for a flying school), or on an aircraft you own, or own a share of. You can do it anywhere in the world, doesn't need to be in your home country or even in a JAR country.
The link Lovejoy has given you is a list of registered PPL schools in the UK, which is a good starting point, especially since you are coming from abroad and so don't have the local connections needed to find local flying groups or hour-building syndicates (which do not need to be registered anywhere, so there is no such thing as a "list" of them.)
Another option for you would be to rent an aircraft from your local flying club in France, fly over to the UK, and then base yourself somewhere in the UK for a while - have you considered that?
Alternatively, you can go to the USA, Canada, South Africa or Australia to do your hour-building. You'll get to practice your English in any of these places, and they are all much cheaper than the UK for flying - but you'll need to check whether you'll be able to get the part-time work you want.
It can count towards the total time (off the top of my head I think it's 150 hours to start the CPL, 200 hours before it can be issued), but not towards the 100 hours P1 that's needed.
Hope that's helpful,
FFF

hi,
I have 220 hours and PPL(A), just about to start ATPL groundschool. Unfortunately because my aircraft has big wings (Touring Motor Glider), the rules mean they count for nothing.
Im looking for some suggestions as to where is cheapest to hour build, (roughly 80 hours). Please give specific company names if you can!!!
Thanks for any help

The US seems to be the cheapest place to go, with wet rates for C152 working out at about 45 pound an hour at some of the florida based schools.
It is also notable, that twin engine rates in florida, what with the dollar being so weak and that work out at about 100 quid an hour, roughly the same as hiring a 152 in the UK!
So for the same price as 80 hrs on a 152 in the uk, u could get 80 twin hours, very advantagous!
Try searching for Orlando flight training or Naples air centre on google, there are however many many schools in Florida offering cheap hire, esp for large blocks.
Or you could actually make money whislt building up your hours by operating a shifty operation doing pleasure flights, aerial photography, "flight experiences", or some other way of cashing in. Strictly ilegal with only a PPL but you might get away with it if u are lucky!

I think you will find the link is actually 3 separate links.
Containing details of all caa approved schools. Not just PPL.
From reading Sam's previous submisions I gather he would like to hour build/train in the UK specifically.

thanks people, ahart offer 152 for only £31! Amazing value, thanks for the help so far. Although the chances of getting caught are slim, I dont fancy trying to earn money on a PPL! But I am trying to take as many friends flying as possible, as cost sharing is legal (as in they pay lol).

You could try buying a share
I bought a share in a cessna 150 for £4500 and its £65 per month insurance, you pay for the 50 hour service in the amount of hours you fly (50 hour costs £300 / 50 = £6 per hour service cost), and then works out at about £25 per hour for fuel, Its half the price I was paying, I work it out as about £35 per hour.
Hope this helps,

Hour build in Canada!

I recommend Canada (Alberta to be precise) as really good alternative to the U.S. for hour building, or even to go the whole way and gain a Canadian licence. It's a huge country with good VFR weather in Alberta, uncomplicated licence validation and C172 solo rental for Cn$107/hr wet (inc local tax!). I believe a lower price can also be negotiated for a block booking of 50 hours or more.
PM me if you want to know who to contact.

hello everybody!
Quick question, I don't understand very well about hours building for CPL :
I have read we need 150 hours of flying for CPL, but we need 200 hours for delivering licence...
But if i understood, 150 hours are required if we do IR before CPL ?
so is it possible getting just 150 hours if we do CPL then IR ? or we have to get 180 hours...

Nah, I think you only need 50 hours pic to do IR before CPL but if you want to do multi/ir you need 70 hours pic to satisfy the requirements of the ME rating. But you will still need to get pic hours up to 100 and total time up to 200 for cpl issue.
It is all explained in the above link but it's an absolute arse to read.

How longa days before the hours?
stupid, but catchy title, i was wondering how long it takes to generally go from getting your ppl to flying the 150 hours needed before CPL? i know it mainly consists of how quickly you raise the money, but say you had 5k kept away and were working to increase that day by day, how long would it take to complete of 150 hours?
Kind Regards
Felix
