I feel sorry for Prince Michael of Kent in this saga.

The first video in the Daily Mail story below clearly shows him having to push the highly sponsored Spirit of Artemis out of the hangar. In days gone by she would have been pushing his aircraft:ok:

His niece, Zara Philips, only has to have a few pictures taken for her cash from Artemis Investments.

Criminal deception to raise funds?

I expect one or two of the lawyers on PPRuNe have already given this some consideration.

Can't think of the actual wording now but I am sure there is an offence covering obtaining funds by deception?

On the other hand I expect all the sponsors, (especially the Royals), will want to be able to walk away, hope it dies quickly and spares them yet further embarrassment, so those financially involved may not want to press charges?

Thank you Clareprop, excellent post!

Repeated from my earlier post:

This National Post article describes a perhaps somewhat similar situation...

Fake soldier Franck Gervais pleads guilty to unlawfully wearing military uniform on Remembrance Day | National Post

The members of the Canadian military, quite rightly, would not tolerate it!

This little quote comes from an organisation in Australia/New Zealand given to bringing "Walts" to justice ANZMI - Australia & New Zealand Military Imposter Group - Welcome to ANZMI. Has great relevance to TCT's fiasco.

"If you tell the truth, it becomes part of your past, if you tell a lie it becomes part of your future"

There is no grey. Only black or white.

G-KEST

It concerns the proposed award of the Bill Woodhams Trophy to Tracey Curtis-Taylor...
Barry, the award has already been handed to her. We can only hope that it will be retracted, but it will need to be brought up at the AGM so I hope you find someone to second you. If you read the LAA forum there is at least one other member who intends to do this, perhaps you should PM him.

On another matter, does anyone here know how to send multiple tweets. I'm a computer dummy but had thought of tweeting a few pertinent links to all of TCT's followers.

I wish to propose a motion for the AGM however since it does not affect either the Memorandum or Articles of Association it might not need the full 42 days notice otherwise required.

It concerns the proposed award of the Bill Woodhams Trophy to Tracey Curtis-Taylor in respect of flights from South Africa and to Australia. Her assertions that these were conducted as sole occupant of her Stearman have been comprehensively demolished since she was seemingly accompanied by a highly experienced pilot and instructor. In no way was this an exceptional feat of navigation in the traditions of female aviators, still less in an LAA type aircraft. It was however a carefully orchestrated PR campaign for Artemis to benefit that company.

In my considered opinion the award of this trophy by the LAA would bring our organisation into disrepute. I urge the Association to reconsider its decision.

If a specific form exists for motions then I would much appreciate your sending it to me.

Kind regards,

I'm allergic to AGMs Barry, so not planning to attend, but if that's not a problem, you can put me down if you like.

LAA membership number I can send you separately.

Just out of idle curiosity but has anyone compiled a list of awards, accolades and honours that have either been issued, or are pending issue to TCT, based upon the exploits of a "Bird (and her mate) in a Biplane".

- HCA (Pending Masters Medal)
- LAA
- Portsmouth Uni (Hon Degree)
- RNR (Hon rank)

..are the ones I recall and I am certain there are many more. Also, not forgetting the list of claims (Solo flight, Commercial Pilot, Instructor) etc.

Out of it all, the one fact that galls me the most is seeing her with RN wings. I have seen my son go through blood, sweat and tears to EARN his. I applaud those on here, and on other sites, who continue to get to the truth.:D

It seems she has more front than
Harrods and when it all comes out, as it will, there will be Mitty-gating circumstances.

Excerpt du Jour...

Paragraph 3 refers...

Tracey Curtis Taylor Aviator, Adventurer, Inspirational Speaker

I would add, the above extract is from February 4th 2015. The copy seems to be at odds with Ms Curtis-Taylor's current statement on her website, originally produced earlier this year: 'For the avoidance of doubt, I have always been the sole pilot of Spirit of Artemis.

In planning the expedition through Africa in 2013 there was an initial hope of a solo flight in the beautiful & original 1942 Boeing Stearman.

However, in the early stages of the flight this concept was intentionally and officially dropped...

Not dropped it would seem from the pitch to gain money from speaking engagements.

Mike Flynn 9th Sep 2016 13:40

I am not sure if she is still with the Chartwell Speakers Agency.
Tracey Curtis-Taylor - Chartwell Speakers Bureau

I like this paragraph.

"Tracey is a brilliant story-teller who displays an indomitable spirit and infectious love of adventure. She tells her extraordinary story with wit and passion, answers questions with clarity and honesty and inspires listeners to achieve the impossible. She will grace any occasion and spell-bind any audience."

pulse1 9th Sep 2016 13:49

Come on it's not all bad. At least there is one true statement on her website:

"Tracy IS an amazing story teller."

I also found some truth from her in this article:
Q & A with Tracey Curtis Taylor - Features - Pilot

In paragraph 9

"In terms of my own personal preparation, in truth I did very little."

I would however suggest that it was not just personal preparation that lacked effort.

Thank you Hoodie. I made that Mitty-gating quip up all by myself.....
But I did have the support of a scriptwriter, two professional comedians and a secretary to type it for me. Other than that, it was a solo effort ;)

strake 9th Sep 2016 14:55

Amazing - more contradiction every day.

I was reading through the link SWB provided thinking that if only she hadn't tried to con people it would have been quite an adventure - maybe not medal winning but certainly laudable. Then I came upon the following quote:
'Although this was primarily a solo flight, certainly at the outset, I often took members of the crew and sponsors with me in the Stearman for reasons of expediency or indeed just so that they could share the experience.'

She had so many opportunities to say what she now says on her website statement but just didn't.

Sam Rutherford 9th Sep 2016 16:07

She writes:

'I often took members of the crew and sponsors with me in the Stearman for reasons of expediency or indeed just so that they could share the experience.'

She could have written:

'on all but four flights, which were solo, I had Ewald Gritsch with me in the front seat'.

Similar, but oh so different. This was referring to the African flight.

For the Australian flight I believe he was in the front for almost EVERY flight...

I think the next big thing will be the result of the vote on whether to retract the Bill Woodhams Trophy at the LAA AGM.

Then, just four days later, it's the HCAP Awards Dinner...

Stay tuned, order more popcorn...

Once the redundant words, especially the dishonest and other far-fetched ones are removed, it reads rather differently:

Tracey is a brilliant story-teller.... She tells her extraordinary story... and inspires listeners to achieve [claim?] the impossible. She will... spell-bind any audience
Dictionary definition of spellbind:

"To act upon with or as if with magic"

Synonyms for spellbind:

Beguile, mesmerize, bedazzle, allure, bewitch, hypnotise, possess, slay, put under a spell, win over.

Probably not far off the truth, once pared down to the basics, once the lies, froth and spin is blown away.

ak7274 9th Sep 2016 19:00

I will be going to the LAA AGM and if there is a debate, I will make my feelings known.

What I don't want is a Witch hunt to apportion blame on any member of the LAA, whose integrity in my opinion is beyond doubt. If there is any such shenanigans, I will make my feelings known even stronger.

Mike Flynn 9th Sep 2016 19:13

The LAA and HCAP took TCT at face value and believed in her honesty and integrity.

It is rather sad these organisations have been used as mere pawns in her objective to become a public figure. The 'aviatrix/inspirational speaker' image is just a figment of her imagination.

In planning the expedition through Africa in 2013 there was an initial hope of a solo flight in the beautiful & original 1942 Boeing Stearman. However, in the early stages of the flight this concept was intentionally and officially dropped.’
Why? What was so difficult in flying a basic aeroplane in VFR with the benefit of being a 'commercial pilot and instructor'?

That is what Amy Johnson and Lady Mary Heath ,the women pilots she claimed to emulate, achieved decades ago.

THe fact remains that while peddling her tall tales of solo flight Ewald Gritsch was sitting in the front seat.

Gritsch admits he was in the forward cockpit for ‘the majority’ of the flights from Cape Town to Goodwood and Farnborough to Sydney. He said: ‘The situation was that it was not a solo flight.’

When genuine GA people such as well respected aviation man Barry Tempest and others question her motives there has to be some sort of consensus that frankly we have all been had.

The biggest egg on the face award goes to the media who swallowed the story hook line and sinker without checking facts.

That would probably be when the owner realised she couldn't fly and if left alone would barge into helicopters or just run off the runway and cause Cat4 damage.
