What date are people planning to head down? I am thinking about going in on the trade days as it will probably be less crowded but is there much difference on a public days and the trade days?

It is less crowded on a trade day, the airshow is similar. You need trade accreditation or a trade pass to get past the gate, and business attire. Flash your PPL and wear an an aero club or airline shirt, that should do the trick. Best to pre-register.

Wear an epaulette shirt with an ASIC card flapping about on your chest, sure to get you in!
I'll be there on the 4th-6th, Will be too late for the show on the 4th, so 5th and 6th are a definite, PM me if any of you want to join me in being armchair experts!

Really looking forward to see some F22 ripping it up in the sky.

You don't need to wear uniform with epaulettes to get in if you're a REAL Pilot!! Just bring your ASIC.

Give it a break.

Wankers!

nitpicker330......REAL pilot.....ASIC.??.....

No way white shirt, no way blue slacks, you would be one of those who wear a hawaiin shirt, shorts, sandals and a pair of those white framed sunnies,..... and you think that is what a REAL pilot wears......even when attending an aviation event, in company time..... you DO have a full time flying job don't you??

HA HA HA HA HA..... that is beach wear, not pilot wear, you cool dude! It would work for Richard Branson I suppose, but is he a REAL pilot? or is he just a multi billionaire airline owner who likes to pretend that he is a pilot by dressing like that, does that make him a ******?? who cares?

An ASIC in your name and image will qualify you for trade day admission rates, but carries no proof at all that you are a more of a real pilot than those in the white shirts, or even those in the zoom bags.

A friend of mine wears a blue flight suit every day to the show and he is a REAL pilot, even though he has never had an ASIC in his life.

I will be there for the duration again. I wonder if it will be flood, mud, hail, gale, dust or scorching heat this time? It goes for a week so we will most likely get some of everything. - Except for the Russians, bring em back I say,...... those Sukhois are fully sick mate ( that was for nitpicker, real pilot talk, not ****** white epaulette shirt talk)

HD

Hey, I just noticed an interesting thing, when you type:

Wankers - it come out that way on the post,

******? - it comes out like that in the post

****** - however comes out like that!!, not like what you type

winker, wonker wunker and wenker all work,

but not ******

Bollocks!

Last trade day I went to, there were more aerosexuals with badges than industry folk. How do they get in?

Mate I've worn a professional aviators uniform ( Airline in this case ) for nearly 30 years with great pride and I always wear my hat!! ( no thanks to the CX Hat Police !!)

So, no I'm not turning up in shorts and thongs as you suggest!!

I'll wear appropriate casual attire but it's not necessary to get " dolled up" in ur uniform to get in, far from it. Anyone could buy a uniform at Skylines, for identification purposes an ASIC proves enough on the day. Remember an ASIC proves you are apart of the Aviation industry, you don't have to be a Pilot to get in to the show.

In my experience every time I've been to the show on trade days I've never once been asked to show anything.

I'm getting a bit sick and tired seeing the 20 yo wanna bees strolling around in full regalia like they're Chuck Yeager

The real experienced Pilots from all forms of Aviation will be walking around quietly minding their own business in casual attire.

So, How about a bit of modesty?

As far as I am concerned anyone can wear what ever they want, badges, gold wings, flight suits or corporate uniform. "Smart casual' means absolutely nothing in regard to flight experience, ability or ambition.

Ricardo will be wearing his blue suit with all his badges, as will the Roullettes, what difference does the clothing mean, nothing really, so you do not need to mount the high horse and take umbrage to what you deem the 'correct ' dress for a REAL pilot.

There will be REAL pilots in all forms of dress (maybe even dresses?), as well as absolute wannabees in jackets covered with badges from every show they have been to and RFC wings sewn on for good luck, who have never been closer to flying than zooming their Airfix models around the kitchen table, so what?

Avalon will once again bring together the entire gamut af the aviation fraternity and sorority for a week of intense aerial and corporate maneuvering in the skies and in the chalets, where some say the REAL pilots hang out.

Enjoy it and resist the feeling of rage and resentment when you see some hopped up sprog with his accoutrements of trade proudly on display to the world, ray bans, gold wings, white shirt and dusty black shoes, and a heart full of hope for the future. don't worry nitpicker, there will always be some sour old billy to knock it out of him later, when he gets a REAL job as a REAL pilot.

Chill man, maybe you need that Hawaiin shirt after all.

See ya there, I 'll keep an eye out for the casual shorts and knee length socks.

HD

Now, will I wear my 5 stripe eppaulettes or my six stripe eppaulettes, hmm maybe with the Astronaut wings I got on ebay....oops better not, i have bumped into several REAL Astronauts at Avalon over the years, and they know that I am NOT one.....Test Pilot badge perhaps??!?..that one is easier...

Pilots working at the show will wear their uniforms, why wouldnt they. Be they Military or Civilian, no objection there

That's not the group of Pilots I was referring to in my post.

So to clarify....... anyone involved in the Aviation industry whether they be ATO's, Cleaners, Caterers, Cabin crew or Pilots need only bring their ASIC.

You don't see QF or VB cabin crew/ground staff/caterers wearing their uniforms whilst off duty visiting on trade days and nor should you.

As I said above those not required in the course of their employment to wear a uniform at the show are just "show boats and wankers" They are doing it to feel important.

So get over yourselves.

And if I ever see another wanna bee in the local Pub with his stripes on I'm

gunna puke all over him/her.

Just tell them you're an aircraft spotter and pull out your home-made business card - have seen it done plenty of times before.

I'm wondering if Pilot's non-flying partners can come along to the trade day..... (without an ASIC or licence of course)

I might give them a ring about that. Wives / SO's are the backbone of the successful aviation professional!

Yes the home made business card works a treat. You can be as creative as you like.

Managing Director or CEO is fun, one year 4 of us were the directors of Aviation Security Services, "Ass`s"

Vortex Air have a few seats left for sat and sun, $195 return, YMMB to YMAV, 25 minutes and you are in the gate. Ive flown 4 times and its the only way to get there if you are in the SE of Melb.

Get in quick as the ASDU advertising kicks in on Monday.

Anyone know an email that works for ASDU?

I want them to tell the commentators to be silent during displays. They can go nuts in between displays and the commercials.

Concur. Last year I attended a display at a certain very big private air museum in NSW that operates some serious military stuff; the incessant yap from the commentators detracted from the experience.

A good airshow commentator knows when to let the aircraft do the talking.
