Just about flooded out there last time, hoping for the better!
|
Sunstar, that made it more fun, wading through the mud to get to the viewing area. Did mean it was slightly chilly though.
Looking forward to going again this year if time and money permit. |

Was it last year that they introduced the $10 parking fee. Took them a while to catch on to the idea that there can be more money made out of this event. I bet this year it'll be $15.......per wheel on your car/bike.
Hope they have a Russian fighter for once, which also does a flying routine. And for the A380 to stay the entire weekend. And come on Boeing, bring the 787 over ! |

Any information on what might be putting on a display this year?
|
I'll be there. Again!

I applied to volunteer this year. What's it like? What are the chances of getting what you put down for?
|
I have had sight of the "floor plan" and the East side of taxiway Alpha looks interesting. From top to bottom:
Hawk F/A 18 Hornet 2 x Super Hornet Wedgetail Another Hornet CT4 looking properly small no doubt RAAF Kingair F22 Raptor Something that says "Su34" but the profile looks like a MiG29- go figure. Mirage 2000 F16 J35 Lightning 2- presumably the plastic model Then umpteen exec jets and the usual suspects. On another site they indicate the Temora boys are taking part this year. I would really hope the RAAF put up their F86 Sabre. The sight of the F86, Spitfire and Mustang in close formation at Point Cook last year was absolutely electrifying. |
I applied to volunteer this year. What's it like? What are the chances of getting what you put down for? The first year I helped with "Airsport Showcase", getting the people with small displays organised etc, and every show since as a tarmac marshall, essentially marshalling the aircraft movements, mainly lighties. Big plus is you are ringside during the displays and conversations with pilots can get you inside aircraft not normally available to the public. Last show I got inside a B1B. Feel free to PM me. This year will hopefully be my first visit to Avalon. Are both weekend days normally the same program or is there enough to see there to fill both days? I will be travelling with my kids so I want to avoid being stuck for a day I don't need to be, but also would hate to miss out on anything good....

Are both weekend days normally the same program or is there enough to see there to fill both days? PS - The night display on Friday is usually different and excellent. To see and hear Connie take off at night with flaming exhausts is a unique experience. Edit: changed weekdays ---> weekend days |
Anyone know about additional flights into AVV? JQ only have three return filghts to SYD - last airshow they had about 6. They even had two fligts leaving at about 6 and 7pm back to SYD on the Sunday, which was ideal and both flights were packed.

Anybody remember the very first one, I was there.:ok:
Talk about wet. |
I remember going down there one year when Qantas took down a 747 (ex Mascot) and parked it right in the middle of everything!!!! I was great taxying through the crowd and looking out the window and all the people walking around. When we left the PIC did a great flyby and those left in the stands were cheering and waving. Would've looked great from there. One blue I did make though was I didn't get the gold pass, opting instead for the dust bowl where I met one of those aviation experts that had the scanner, whizbang cameras. rayban sunnies, jacket and everything. I've posted about that experience before. I wonder if I'll accidently spill my beer on him again (sorry mate...like I tell you every time, No we haven't met before and it was an accident..).
In any case, it would be good if Qantas or someone could do that again although I don't know if the A380 would get into Avalon or not (anybody know?). What I usually do is book round about now and get the JS flight down at 0700ish and back on the day (1550ish) with Gold pass. ( I just checked and the flight is filling...) Whole day ( with beers etc) usually costs me around $500- and is money well spent. Stiky :ok: |
