Agreed. Ask yourself why guys on the verge of a command would leave for an Air NZ SO position or contract work? Think about it. I'd say the closure of CHC head office is just the beginning. VANZ cheap and everything rosy? Guess Virgin might get the full picture once everything is based out of Brisbane....

VA are keeping a few 737's on the VAI AOC (with dedicated VAI pilots) even though Indonesia don't require it to be VAI anymore to operate to DPS. Why?
Do VANZ aircraft have Business Class yet?
ANZ A320/321 NEO's on order are said to be for Pacific routes as well as Trans Tasman. They are apparently a LOT more efficient than the 737-800 or 737MAX that are on order.
Interesting times ahead.

If you want a job within the Virgin Australia group of airlines, take a VANZ job. In the highly unlikely event that the NZ operations are closed down, you may find yourself with a massive payrise, Aus based 737. I wouldn't worry about being left stranded.
Rumour around the blocks is that there is another few cruisers moving to nz on the 73. I wonder if this means there could be finally some movement in the virgin camp, or are they overstocked with cruisers anyway?

Definitely not overstocked HB. They will need to recruit. With the sim moving next month could still be a little while away. 8 cruisers in total have now gone over to NZ.
Good Luck!

They are short across the entire group, that's from the GMFO which is why guys are getting called on days off and flights cancelled.
8 cruise f/o now at VANZ with more to come. I think you'll find the only way in now, is as a cruise f/o soon to be renamed second officer.

NZ 737 sounds good to me, where do I sign up? I've been on hold over 2 yrs, you'd think they would offer those of us on domestic hold a NZ base (I even ticked it on my application and mentioned it in an email to HR). The other thing I don't understand is, if domestic is so short on crew, why no recruitment? Plenty on hold waiting for a start date... no shortage of $$$ now that Virgin has backing.

Atlas12 I am afraid the harsh reality is that despite having financial backing as you say, Virgin are still in the red, as are Qantas. Both Airlines have had an aggressive capacity war. They seem to have brokered a peace and being sensible about it all now. This will mean a reduction in flying. Hence pilot numbers will be pretty steady. Natural attrition retirement etc will see a few positions come up.
Virgin would have to be the best Airline I can think of to work for as far as T&C's and Australia the best place to live so I can't imagine too many pilots leaving for overseas gigs.
Hang in there, easy to say I know.

Tigermoth,
That's true, but with the sim now on the move to BNE there won't be anything available until that gets up and running again. They believe it'll take around a month. Hang in there.
