"most likely no training slots in the 09-10 financial year"
Going to be interesting to see how they crew the A380 aircraft that are still due to arrive in that time frame if there is no training slots!

It has taken a few of us a lot of time to get the nod from QF.

As one who is in the waiting at QantasLink i am greatful to have my current job. Unfortunately the seniority thing is a sad case!.....unless you have the ghosting seniority.....Anyway, I guess boys we will just have to keep the head down, bum up and keep pushing forward. Hopefully our time comes....maybe very delayed to our LOI, but hopefully soon.

Can't believe how close to realizing my dream! So close, so far!

Aviation, love it!!!

I agree yadot.... like lifting the perfect beer to your lips, and just before you taste the succulent nectar, some drongo with the initials GFC turns around and knocks it from your hand...

Regarding the seniority issue though, if they don't recruit anyone for two years and then if we manage to get in at the start of the next cycle, we'll still have the same relative seniority. Just less time sitting at the bottom. Hopefully it just means less time as a SO... I guess thats the glass half full way of looking at it.

Keg, I thought that the A380 can be crewed from the training slots that were, already announced (then supposed cancelled and then un-cancelled). The intent of the document I believe is that there will be no training on A330, 767,747 737 until the 2010-2011 training block. Plan D ?

I'm pretty sure that all cadets in industry placement just lost their reserved seniority numbers as part of the latest EBA. i.e. we're all on a level playing field now, everyone gets a number on the day they start with QF mainline.

Keg, I was also under the impression that training slots had been allocated for the coming A380s with the movement of quite a few 744/330 SO's onto the 380 for the coming aircraft? Hopefully not though!

First bunch of the 744/330 SO's going across to the 380 start shortly with the rest to follow progressively over the next roster period/s.

Cheers, still doesn't answer whether they're there to cover all coming 380's before the deferred ones though. Anyone know?

The SO's going to the 380 from the 744/330 will cover all slots up to and including aircraft 6 which is supposed to be delivered by the end of the year. Since aircraft 7-10 have been deferred for at least 12 months I don't believe there will be any 380 SO slots for another 18 months.

to update or not

If you got a reapply in one year letter, given the current situation should you reapply at the one year anniversary or is it just going to irritate the people in recruiting?

If you don't update will they then think you are not THAT keen later on?

I think the web site states that they are not accepting ANY applications or updates until the end of this financial year. After that who knows, but I'd assume send in an update at the end of June. Even then, it'll probably just sit in an archive room gathering dust for the next 18 months.

would be an interesting stat. You could assume say 60% of ATPL A people under the age 60 have been thru stage1 and how many pilots do they have? I'd say the odds aren't great!

????? LOI Holder

Hey folks, to those of you on the inside... keg maybe,

Are forward bookings beginning to pick up??

Is it still the plan to defer deliveries??

Are the S/O ranks still over crewed??

I have heard nothing from recruitment since early in the year with regard to their intentions with the 40 odd LOI holders, mine being almost a year old now.

I know times are difficult, I'm just wondering if anyone has any insight

Over-crewed by 140-150.
Hopefully no redundancies with lots of leave and leave without pay advertised. No recruitment for a while though!

Qantas in talks to delay 787 deliveries
By Leithen Francis

Qantas group is in negotiations with Boeing to delay delivery of Boeing 787s on order.

Low-cost carrier Jetstar is to be the first airline in the group to receive 787s with the first due in May 2010.

But Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce, says the group has instigated negotiations with Boeing in an effort to delay first deliveries.

"We don't feel next year is the right time," Joyce told ATI's sister publication Airline Business on the sidelines of the IATA annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Qantas group has 65 787s on firm order with 30 earmarked for Jetstar.
Joyce says of all the airlines in the group Jetstar has been the mostly adversely affected by the swine flu outbreak.

"It has had a severe impact on Jetstar's services to Japan" and led the low-cost carrier to slash 30% of its capacity to Japan, he says.

Qantas' outbound international passenger traffic has also been adversely affected, he says.

Australians are delaying trips overseas because schools in Australia have imposed home quarantine for kids coming back, he adds.

Despite the downturn leading Qantas to push for delays in 787s, Joyce says there are early signs of recovery in the global aviation industry.

Qantas in recent weeks has seen an increase in its cargo traffic out of China, says Joyce.

"It's a good sign," he says, referring to the fact international cargo traffic is usually the first indicator of a global economic recovery.

Wonder how this will impact the plan..

Hey folks, to those of you on the inside... keg maybe,
I'd love to have the info but having done only four days work since the mid March (mostly annual leave and reserve rosters with no flying) I haven't been around anyone in the know to even ask.

Rhodes, Dragun et al

Its been a while since I was on here but I noticed the thread is still going so I thought I would add my two cents.

The following is all here say mind you: Recruiting has suffered in the latest cutbacks, possibly only the Manager staying on. The worst news and I hope that this will not be the case, DE recruitment will not restart for at least 18 months to 2 years.

I guess that means that those people with LOI's will have to go through the whole system again. Not great news I know. Combined with the news that the SHL system may be going, the first people through the door will be going in fairly blind, not knowing what to expect.

Hope there is some good news coming soon rather than any more bad.

Thanks for the update Eq sadly its the only updates we get now as the promised monthly updates have vanished into thing air.

Anyways I'm resigned to the fact that I'm going to be waiting a hell of a long time now and that I probably wont end up joining, life has moved on and its getting more and more difficult to justify coming back home.

Eq hope you are enjoying life at the Roo.
