Obviously in GA if you don't mind instructing or if you are willing to travel far to get your first job.. it won't be the best paying job at first but at least you won't waste time waiting around to apply for next years Cadetship when you could be building up some hours in the mean time.
So what's every one going to do now that the rat has told us to kindly PFO for the moment?
I hope that some people's employers don't hold a grudge and deny an upgrade or similar now that people will be sticking around a bit longer. I do agree with AoA try and build your career without the rat but unfortunately there isn't much choice in Aus at the moment.
Best of luck guys hope to see you on a course soon.

From what I can see the Direct Entry information on the Qantas website has not changed:
"
Direct Entry Pilot
We are currently inviting Direct Entry Applications from candidates who meet the minimum criteria. Please be advised that the Qantas minimum criteria has recently changed. Be sure to read all information available on this website prior to submitting your application."
Where does it say:
"Qantas Pilot Recruitment will not be accepting new or updated applications effective from 1 January 2009 to 30 "

Has anyone ever heard of QF not even ACCEPTING DE applications? I'm sure there were times when the applications they were getting were simply added to the ever expanding pile but to not even accept them seems like a major departure from the normal way Qantas recruit.
I know there was a time where QANTAS hadn't recruited for about 5-10 years in the 70s or 80s? The only real flying jobs in Oz at the time were in the RAAF... or so I have been told a
No news at the moment, mind I'm still waiting to be called to have the situation explained to me as it said in the email that was sent out recently. Chances of this happening are slim though as I've never been called in the past must be the time zones that confuse them
The Hill,
If they said the truth, no body would use their business would they?
On PATS is it any good? I passed the ADF Pilot Testing (the ones they say they will make you pass in) without their help. When I apply for QF Cadetship (to keep that option open... on my end at least ) I originally thought it might be worth it... not now!

Latest story is that a surpluss of S/O's now exist in the company and many will be taken off the 744 and 330 and placed on the 380 when more of them arrive.
As for the other ranks and types, time will tell. Supposedly the 767 is pretty overstocked with F/O's and Captains now. Not sure about the 737.

Nunc est bibendum
Whilst there is leave available- and being assigned- for crew on the 767, I wouldn't say that we're 'over stocked'. Even with crew on leave those that are left are still coping with occasional shortages of crew.

Simply more of the ready, FIRE, aim approach...
Try not to get disheartened people...The three year plan changes weekly..Establishment numbers on all fleets are all over the place...There are a few little empires in there that mean confusion tends to reign supreme when it comes to what is happening. There are quite a few upgrades up in the air too. As alluded to they are redeploying from the 744 and A330 to the A380..Even in the last few days as information leaked about the proposed captial raising, Joyce was overseas..The results bought forward had to be delivered by Clifford..(think chaos and you would probably be close)
The provision of information is hap hazard when you are employed by them, even worse as I remember it whilst waiting! As such keep the hours ticking by, try not to get down and keep updating.

I think it means its going to be a very long time before QF take on any new recruits. If you've got a job - make sure you keep it. I wouldn't count on getting a start date with QF for the next 12-18 months.

A380 course only starts on the 23rd (approx) I am told. All the crew who have been shuffling paper for peanuts are on it, you know the ones who got told you don't have a job.
Anyway great news, economic crisis OVER! Yayyyyyy as I quietly sob over my LOI

Yea they've stopped using SHL and will now run the psych and skills using only a maths and english section with a whole lot more personality questions.
Cubes, commands, patterns etc are all out so don't waste your money on any rip off $3000 courses. Learn how to read graphs, read a few books, keep taking your Ritalin you'll be right
