S/Os on the -400 at Qantas earn around 140k ~ 160K do I think you'll be ahead financially pretty much from the start at Qantas.

Qantas really kicked a pysch test goal coaxing you two out of the closet didn't it...
How pathetic
Titan - Could you please elaborate what's the difference between the QF & J* Phych testing & scoring.

Seems bagging QF has been part of your phych profile since early 2005.

Furthermore, if you think tech crew costs will determine who gets what group flying your kidding yourself.

Personally I think I'm past the point of sitting in the back as an esso. I think its a great (or the best) opportunity for up and commers - cadets or lower hour pilots but there comes a point where you are past the role and should go elsewhere rather than getting the job and then complaining of how boring it is ect. Friends that do it seem to do alot of this!

The money and conditions sound fantastic but there are good careers in other companies as well. I'm sure they'll never have a shortage of applicants!

Pilot “A”, gets into J*or VB now, more than likely on more $$$ than their previous regional/GA job, does Pilot “A” have job satisfaction, well that’s up to the individual, overall carrier progression continues to advance forward, what pilot “A” makes off this progression opportunity in the long term, well that’s his/her decision.

Pilot “B”, waits for QF, waits for QF, waits a little longer for QF, still waiting for QF, meanwhile continues getting screwed by douche bag regional/GA air services, on probably half $$$ of a low cost carrier, working max hours because all his/her mates have progressed into J* or VB. The opportunity will eventually come around, but when?

Option “A” is the best option going around in the current environment, best of luck to the guys who wait, but don’t knock guys who choose to progress their carrier in this way.

Good summary Ted.

Know alot of guys that live their life according to the next chapter from QF recruitment rather than getting on with their career meanwhile every other lad is progressing thru the other various systems. They refuse to accept after numerous failed attempts that they just might not be what the big Q wants.

I find it amusing that it is always the threads that invovle the large firms such as Qantas Virgin Rex Qantas Link that bring out the most emotion and sniping by PPRuners.
As Julius Sumner Milller would say "why is this so".
I don't expect too many of the snipers to know who he is as it requires a birth date pre 1980.

There was a gift to you here Titan and you didn't rise to the bait. Well done.
We know one thing..Mstr Caution didn't go to the WK school of the erudite.

And Craven, think you meant pre 1980 not post for the esteemed Dr Julius. Sadly he died in 87.

Touche'

Will two typo's cut the mustard!

However, as per my original post. The point being there will always be individuals that slip thru the cracks. Whether it be attitude towards life or their ability to spell.

Gee thanks Gnadenburg, I have now seen the light, I would much rather sell my soul than work for a legacy
No need for snideness. I have been very critical of the graveyard spiral in COS thanks to LCC's in Australia and associated practices such as paying for endorsements. I also invested a long time in a legacy carrier prior to being dumped on the market.

Which brings me to my question-

Looking forward with professional due diligence and a gamble perhaps. What future is there in being a S/O at QF? If, as Scooter mentioned, it is 20 years til command now. WIth all the inherent risks and variables facing the industry over that time frame. I'd suggest it is a realistic possibility to never achieve a command at QF if you join now.

yeah sorry about that, i wont drink so much next time before posting

For me personally i'd love to make it to captain with qf, if i never make the senority, so be it. I don't need to be a captain to feel as though my life is complete

The race to the command position is one observed by LCC's and other small GA companies.

With the pay scale at Qantas, the lifestyle, and the pleasure of world travel, once in Qantas only a few race to the finish line and many enjoy the journey.

So as for a command in Qantas, I don't think it really matters. We get paid enough at the bottom.

I wouldn't say QF guys get paid enough, but I'll go with they do get paid properly.

It's a big world out there - get your command quickly in an LCC, then go direct entry captain with a Legacy offshore. Sorted.
