Merged: The REX Cadet Scheme

Just wondering if the scheme got off the ground on the date specified ? Has anyone started training? does the school have the approvals/aircraft?

gone quiet all of a sudden.

NOT bagging REX, just want to know if it happened!

It certainly has, the first batch has commenced training as of earlier this month. A couple of my friends had managed to get in, its just the break they needed to get back into the game.

REX Cadetship

In friday 14th December's Australian there is a tiny article stating that the first intake of cadets have started training. Its says that there were only 17 cadets and they will come out with MECIR.

I think i read somewhere that hey need 40 pilots a year or something like, that.cant confirm that figures though.

Well said Aussie.

The way it's going at REX, they will actually need more like 100 new pilots per year!

Although things will get pretty chaotic by then. you need a Captain as well as a Cadet to fly the thing, and Captains are becoming rarer by the week.

The spin from the Rex Spin Doctor is that it is all hunky dory but what he forgot to say was that:

1. No AOC
2. No aircraft. Maybe by February, with luck
3. Extended ground school for the first intake.

I asked them a few questions and they didnt seem to like it!

"We would strongly suggest that when applying for roles that you submit
one email only, with your application attached, as it confuses things on
our end. Also, try to avoid follow up questions, as the system will
only send you an auto-reply."

oh and they asked me for my school results yesterday, but im upto the Australian Defence Force Pilot Selection Agency so i think i'll hold on, much rather fly something with some speed!!

Re Rex Cadet Pilot Program - Email Reply

I submitted an expression of interest in September and received the auto reply from the Human Resources department. Two days ago I received an email requesting scanned copies of my academic results. They were very specific as to the format for the reply. In the email subject line "Academic Results - [Your Name]"

Within one minute of sending the email, another system generated response from their HR department to acknowledge the email.

Cheers

Hey guys!

I submitted my application in November - and got a phone call mid this week to ask for a copy of my secondary results via email.

I'm not a strong candidate (in terms of my school results), but have been invited for a interview.

Does anyone know the criteria they use to judge candidates?
Also is there anyone who has already had the interview, or perhaps one of the 17 successful entrants from the first intake, have any advice or suggestions they can share?

In response to a earlier submission in this post (re: the flying school in Melbourne, Moorabbin Airport, where QF cadet's train). I have been a student there for 2 years now (2008 is my 3rd year).

Yes, their expensive. Yes, their even more bloody unorganised. Yes, we fly brand new aircraft (but don’t worry, they are U/S so often its not funny). Yes, our Cessna’s are glass and have Air-Bag’s, Anymore?

Hmmm some of the stories I can share...both good and bad. Ask away, I'm happy to answer!

Re: Ace

Yeh, I'm still undecided. The 6 years is what gets me...and the long hours.

I could do the six years, on the miniscule pay (I honestly don’t mind the regional flying. Some of us do it because we want to fly, not because of the money!) - but I can’t do the 22 days per month at 8 to 10 hours per day with heaps of night freight in there for 6 years straight....

Ha! And I used to laugh at the telemarketers overseas getting paid $35K!!

I want to read the contract before making a decision – who knows, there may be flexibility in it that we don’t know of...yet! (or at least I’m hoping, since I already have a few hours under my belt!)

love of flying doesn't and won't pay the bills

DirectAnywhere, I could not agree with you more on all points.

Yes, I do fall within that age bracket (good guess by the way). I'm young and I have a lot to learn. I understand Rex doesn't seem to fit the family type F/O - even the Capt's wage is an embarrassment. However for someone in my calibre, it's an opportunity that I am considering 'toughing out' for the 6 years, to get to that position where I can move onto a bigger and better venture...some might think of the cadetship as a easy but long gateway to the jets?

Yes, we are professionals in our field and I do believe that regardless of the stage we are at within regard to flying in GA or Airliners, we should be paid accordingly. Unfortunately, there is always someone who will do our job cheaper!!

I'm not all thumbs up for the Rex Cadetship, neither am I all thumbs down. I want to know the hours we're expected to be thrown into at the end of the 32 weeks training. Would there be opportunity for a second, part time job?

Welcome to the forum, Vpilot53

First thing tomorrow, Tullamarine (Melbourne), Ansett Building.

I'm guessing that you also have an interview?

Question Question for fogap....

Hi mate,
How long between the submission of your Scool results and the call to interview?

I put an initial application in last November, and received an email last Wednesday asking for copies of academic transcripts. Now waiting for a call to interview (hopefully)!

Cheers,
Gearup.

Well i am in the same situation as gearup. i resent my results agian this afternoon i know that they are doing interviews for about 3 or 4 days. I had good vce marks and i have also been doing a little flying in the past few years so i thought i would be a good candidate. But any information you can pass on after you interview would be a great help to us all and also good luck to you i hope you do really well. me and gearup will just sit wait and hope

fogap

I really hope FOGAP that your aviation goals are achieved in the next couple of years. It gets harder as life moves on mate - and idiiots like you in aviation only makes it harder. Working for ****e money does you and no one else in the industry any good. Have a good look and research in these forums as to the effect.

Aviation is a highly qualified demanding career in terms of qualifications and ongoing learning - why do people like you demean and stuff the industry up with this attitude of working for little money? Perhaps it because your still wet behind the ears. and its probably I guess due to the fact you havent lived in the real world, and have probably ridden mum and daddys finances for a while now.

good luck to you pal.
