If they could just straighten them out .... they look like they've all had a very hard landing

But I'm sure they're great to fly

Or, if THAT view is looking North, a 'rapid dep' to the immediate E wouldn't be out of the question.....

Just for info....Where? and, How did the parked aircraft fare..??

Looking south from outside the Port Hedland RFDS Base. The disused Control Tower can be seen behind the tail of the Baron.

There was obviously a lot of rain and lightning, but suprisingly no damaging gusts, at the Airport at least.

Polar's 208 and the Baron were still there 30 minutes later.

Would that be the one of the evening of 20.1.2010..??

I drove thru similar on the way back to Perth from 'warmer climes' in BRM, and that looks just like the one I drove thru about 50k's or so S of the Coast H'way turnoff to NWN.....

Shook the 'ole Patrol a bit and vis from the dust / downdraft was ZERO....

Towering Q,

That is an amazing photo!! Thx so much for posting. I have seen similar scenes in DRW and HKG. If only I had a camera and your photographic skills!

Thanks again,
b.

GRIFFO, much more recent...late afternoon 12/2/2011. It was a north/south line about 50nm long that passed over Port Hedland from the east and wandered off towards Karratha.

boocs, no camera or photographic skills....just finished pre-flighting a PC12, (in the hangar) and saw this unusual cloud formation whilst walking back to the office.

Did a quick point and shoot with the iPhone before the fireworks started.

Many years ago I took off out from under one of these - headed from Inglewood to Warwick in a PA28.

For the benefit of any young'uns reading this - with the value of hindsight, it was NOT the most sensible thing to have done.
