Hey Sunfish,

Just watch yourself down there or more so if you get over to the Trobs. They girls have quaint customs after a very successful Yam harvest when they dominate.

An article in Tuesday's Post Courier 'Drum' reminded me of those customs. The article did not say if the people involved were from the same regional area.

Recently, a yound bloke hopped on to a bus in Lae, sat between two female pax and at a stop or two later, was enticed off the bus by one with the aid of a knife and 2-3 female companions. The lad was taken into the bushes, had his hands tied and the girls 'gang raped' the fellow.

He later said that he did not report it to the Police at the time as he thought no-one would believe him.

Happy diving and keep away from muffs!

Two pixie pilots enjoying a beer in the TAA lodge in Lae remarking about the new intake of J-bunny hosties.
John says in a terribly Brit accent
"Well you'll not find me into that sport!"

Much later that night in one of the girls rooms a well satisfied pilot is layin back enjoying a cigarette when there is a gentle tapping at the door and a" psssst pssst let me in!"

He bellows out at the top of his voice

"IS THAT YOU JOHN?"

The pic of the Susu Meri was a Miss PNG Quest at the Travelodge or the Islander. I went to a few cos the nicest were the mixed race burds with hooge lady bumps and who flaunted them big time. Happy days.!! If you do a search on Miss PNG Quest you can check out the winners from days gone by.

You mention the Hubert Murray Stadium...

What happened under the boxing ring during a title boxing match? I've heard some stories about PX personnel getting up to some shennanigins... and I don't know whether to believe them... the stories I mean.

Animal Club ......
Don't you go casting nasturshums on such a fine body as us Pixies. What DID happen under the boxing ring during the title fight at the HMS.?? I deny it anyway. I was wearing Boxing Gloves at the time......difficult isn't it.??
On another note, I met a lady yesty who was a teacher pre independence in the Jungle....not even a village. She loved every second of it at that time and is appalled at what has happened since. Lived in Huli country up in the Southern Hailans.
Now...gotta go....Chimbu and I have an early start in the morning and plan to give ex P2-DEQ a pole around.

Gotta be careful here otherwise I may have to ban myself........ but if anyone is looking for a copy of Balus: Vol 3 - Wings of a Nation, go to a well known on line auction site and search under "Sinclair".

And if that doesn't make sense, PM me for the URL.

So Chuckles; How did'ja get away without having your features rearranged by the Princess's brother then??
And eventually with a Miss PNG contestant, hmmmm??
My only claim to fame is getting regular hugs from a former Miss PNG and a lovely Lady she was too!!

Hey Woomera...I was there 30 years ago ...seems to me the Flag was raised at Waigani..not the Hubert Murray stadium......it was on a Hill which became known as "Independance Hill "....Just above where John Manly built his Taj Mahal.... Cheers Minosavy

Yes, Minosavy, strictly speaking you are correct and I am wrong. I was talking about 31 years ago when the flag was raised at Hubert Murray Stadium - for the very first time - at Self Government, one year before Independence.

Had to Google to check. Also came up with a few facts, probably not so surprising, including Real growth rate: 0.9%. Inflation: 4.2%.

No wonder the Kina has dropped from Aus$1.35 to Aus$0.44 in the past 20 years.

Question for all you ex-PNG expats out there.....

Was in PNG a while back looking for a job and spent a while hanging out with a few different companies and observing from the RH seat.

The thing that amazed me was that the majority of time was spent flying round in about 1/10 of what's classified VMC in OZ, down valleys and over ridges which sepnd 90% of their time shrouded in cloud, in areas where the terrain a mile ahead of you looks the same as the terrain a mile behind you and the odds of getting a 'fix' aren't even worth calculating.

Was all fairly do-able given that all the boys up there now have GPS, but what i'm wondering is how the hell did you boys navigate into back country stirps with marginal WX back in the 70's? I imagine it would have put a whole new definition on the term 'dead reckoning'?

Sexy choccy training in a nutshell.
And it helped if you were pidgeon brained.
And it helped a lot you didnt get yourself mixed up in real bad weather before you had some idea of what was going on.
And it helped if you rejected the push from various arseholes to get the job done no matter what the cost.
The cost was high I might add.

Sexy Choccy - ANO 28 route checking but more importantly, a very highly developed personal survival instinct!!!

It is illegal to operate an unpressurised GA aircraft above LSALT in most parts of PNG! (I didn't say it didn't happen, rather regularly.....)

And think back to the 1950s when most PNG operators were operating under powered DH84 Dragons and Avro Ansons and a variety of single engine aircraft - and the accident rate was still low by any standards.
